  1. They could sort out warring Promoters for a start. They could stop some of the 'fiddling' that goes on. They could make sure that the Sport is run in an open and honest manner. They might even be able to prevent SKY from changing the Rules ie. Double Points, Playoffs etc. People seem keen to shoot down this idea of an independent body - but - nobody seems able to come up with suggestions that might help Speedway. I believe a truly INDEPENDENT body could help.
  2. If Newcastle was Poole - he would be riding for us on Sunday. The Rules would have been got round somehow.
  3. He may well be right - I acknowledge that. Still being pedantic though. However historically, in Speedway, we have always been Great Britain. Of course I should realise - HISTORY and TRADITION mean absolutely NOTHING in our Sport. They even attempted to change Excluded to Disqualified for heavens sake - what the hell is the point of that? (Just an aside) They just change things for the sake of change - not for the good of the Sport and this attitude contributes to why people are walking away from Speedway. The 'Powers that be' though can't or won't see that. I am not saying that this is the main reason for Crowds dropping - but - it is certainly a contributory factor along with silly Regulations etc..
  4. Now I am confused. Then what IS the Riding Order then? Surely not Robson at 2.
  5. You are right, of course you are. And British Speedway will continue it's downward spiral. Sad but inevitable. What is needed is cooperation and a will to work together. What we seem to have is Self Interest and discord. An Independent Group overseeing Speedway would, to my mind, be the only way to go. Short sighted Promoters cannot seem to see that this could increase the Sport's popularity as everything would be seen to be fair and above board. As you say though Vince - it will never happen. Presently the Speedway Regulations seem to be made up on the back of a fag packet to the advantage of whatever Promoter feels that they need changing at the time to the benefit of his Club.
  6. Thank you DIAMONDS - I appreciate that. It is as I thought - but - I needed some confirmation. Cheers Ian
  7. VERY pedantic...................... Give over smod. Great Britain and the Union Flag Race Jacket was good enough for British Speedway for years. We should return to that. A lot of the problems of our Sport is that we have chucked out our Traditions. THAT doesn't seem to have done us much good - has it? Crowds are still disappearing - aren't they? TeamUK is even worse than TeamGB.
  8. The gamble is that they number of people coming along will make up for the reduction and more. It will hopefully open up Plymouth Speedway to a new audience. I sincerely hope the Promotion are successful with this. Newcastle have done it a couple of times - I am not privy to how successful it was - but - there did seem to be a more folk there than usual. I think that certain Promoters can only be praised for exploring any and every new avenue to increase their revenue streams. It is the sort of forward thinking that Speedway needs.
  9. You are 100% correct. Sadly it will never happen.
  10. I understand - I shouldn't have asked. Sorry. I agree with the second highlighted bit - how about something stirring like 'Land of Hope and Glory' or 'Rule Britannia' - preferably the second one for me.
  11. I thought I read that he was returning to Australia.
  12. Why? Are you not proud to stand for your National Anthem at the end of a Meeting? I'm not really a big Royalist - but - I am proud to be BRITISH.
  13. Basically because the Bikes today are too fast for the Tracks that they are expected to race on. Just my opinion.
  14. I wish Scott Nicholls would return - but - in the absence of him I think we have no choice but to go for younger riders. If they have 'it' they will perform - if they haven't they won't. We NEED to find out. The ONLY way they will get experience of International Speedway is to ride in it.
  15. I like Paul Starke - but would he want to ride for us again.
  16. I've just bought one of those four weeks ago Ray. Cracking car. When you count up your appeal amount - could I please have a share. Cheers Mate.
  17. Aaaahhhh - I did not realise. Thank you for pointing that out to me. I do not follow the Coventry Thread.
  18. It is if you have no suitable Riders. It is questionable whether any of the old brigade apart from Tai Woofinden are 'suitable'. (Good enough). If that is the case, then what alternative do we have other than to give the youngsters a go.
