  1. You are right, however, I don't think I implied that it wasn't a Democracy - just outlined the Chairman's role.
  2. Yes - but - to be pedantic - it wasn't the Rider who caused the stoppage - it was the Advertisement. If it wasn't attached properly - you can hardly blame the Rider for that, and in this case it may/will have cost him money.
  3. Actually - I was talking about the 'Seventies' - but I take your point.
  4. Very bizarre - I've never, in fifty years of attending Speedway heard of anything like that before. Perhaps the Referee should have excluded whoever tied the Advertisement on in the first place. I can understand why he stopped the Race though - the only thing he could do for safety reasons - but - excluding the Rider seems ridiculous to me. Perhaps someone with more knowledge of the Regulations may be able to explain this? Unless, of course, it come under the banner (see what I did there ) of, if a Race is stopped - then someone has to be excluded. If so, this is another example of some of the somewhat stupid rigidity of Speedways Rules.
  5. Should that not read 'responsible' "young riders need all the support they can get"? A very fair point, well put.
  6. I'm not taking any sides in this - BUT - any Chairperson, if he/she is worth their salt, will Guide their Committee in the way he/she thinks that it is appropriate to go. That is why these people are elected to their Office. So to a point the Chairperson is a very influential position. Granted the Committee have a Vote - but - they should listen to their Chairperson and be guided by him/her..
  7. Two things angered me about this Case. One was the 'getting away with it' statement by Mr. Ford, the other was, it seemed to me, the total lack of sincerity when Mr. Ward gave his so called apology on television. Thing is - he admitted it. No Case to argue really - is there?
  8. We are led to believe that the BSPA are supporting this venture though.
  9. Yes - to oblivion. How can you support YOUR Team in those circumstances?
  10. Good Post Dean. You are right - the Sport needs a huge top down overhaul. There are lots of things to love about Speedway but sadly there is a terrible lot wrong with it too. You have listed a number of them in your Post. Speedway will never be as good as it once was for all the reasons you say - but - another couple of reasons may be the loss of the Smell and to an extent the Noise as well. Neither of these things the Sport can do anything about given the Legal situation these days regarding the Environment. It is amazing how many folk that no longer attend Speedway say - I used to love the smell (so did I) and the noise. I reckon that those factors will not have helped the Sport either. Regarding Mr. Harkess - he is probably doing as good a job as he can in the circumstances - ie: the people he has to deal with - as anyone else could do. I see nobody, sadly, at the very top of the Sport who seems capable of taking Speedway by the scruff of the neck and really sorting it out. THAT is what it needs. I am certainly not sure any of the current top people could do any better. Speedway also needs to do something to restore it's credibility as well.
  11. Very clever Oldace. :approve: You may not like Len Silver, but he has probably done more for Speedway in this Country than anyone else around these days. A little respect would be appropriate, I believe. Whatever else Len Silver is - he is not a Fool. He was an excellent Rider, an excellent Promoter and an excellent Great Britain/England Team Manager. Perhaps you have forgotten that - I haven't. He is though getting old - as will you some day - you would do well to remember that.
  12. Speedway Promoters needs to organise it's Fixtures much better than it does. It should ensure the League Meetings are prioritised during the Summer (provide we get one) - not the Autumn. The 'pick your own opponents' Rule should be scrapped - it only extends the League Season even further thus making it inevitable that there will be congestion at the end of the Season - as do the 'Play Offs'. It isn't rocket science to realise that having these Meetings at the end of the Season is going to mean you will have smaller Crowds - folk don't like standing around in the cold and often wet for two sometime two and a half hours to watch fifteen minutes of Racing.. Those who run Speedway should realise it is a SUMMER Sport when they bring in all of these unnecessary extra Fixtures.
  13. YES!!! Very laudable - but - where is all the MONEY coming from to do it?
  14. So they are setting about letting him off? ONLY in Speedway.
  15. Yes - I forgot about that - I'm sure I read about that somewhere BW.
