As you ask Oldace - The old World Final I cared about and enjoyed. I'm afraid the GPs do not do it for me at all. Looking back regarding Qualifying, you are probably right in what you say, but at least it was a fair contest. If you did not make the Final - there was always the following year.
To my mind - the best Rider in the World does not have some sort of Divine Right to be in the GPs. Selection, as against Qualifying, will always be a fiddle. You could have a World Champion who rode well for one year who could be poor the next. Let them ALL fight to get in to the GPS through the Qualifiers. Then, and only then, will there be any credibility in it.
This, of course, is only my opinion. I am aware that a lot of folk feel differently. That is up to them. I can only say it the way I see it.
