Glad you asked that. Tradition, a thing that seems to be abandoned far too easily in Speedway, does actually count for something. Belle Vue has been called Belle Vue from the beginning. Rightly, in my opinion - it has maintained the Tradition. The same could, and should apply to the name of our National Team. We were Great Britain in the past, traditionally we should be Great Britain into the foreseeable future. Oh! Just because the Olympic Team calls itself TeamGB doesn't mean Speedway has to follow suit, and more importantly, nor does it make it right.

You are right. It seems pretty unequivocal to me. Ah!!! But will it be the end of it on here? I somehow doubt it.

Not often I don't agree with you E I Addio but I do here. I have given the matter some thought as you put it. As a result of those thoughts I believe that the 'TeamGB' name is inappropriate. Great Britain was good enough for years but, in order to become 'fashionable', we change our National Team's name. Oddly enough, I live in a Country called Great Britain as do most on this Forum, nowhere can I find the word 'Team' mentioned. Our Speedway Team, and other Sporting Teams as well, are supposed to be representing our Country, our National Identity if you like, hence my reference to the Flag in my original Post. Ergo I believe Great Britain to be the correct name for our Speedway Team. Now I know from what you have Posted that you do not agree with me, that is your opinion and your privilege. I also have the right to disagree with you in this instance - and I do. Hoping I don't get the unnecessary heart attack you mention.

So that's it then - - - for now.

A terrific idea. Anything that helps Teams to add to their crowd levels has to be beneficial to Supporters and Speedway alike.. A very big WELL DONE to Scottish Speedway.

Judging by the number of Replies on this Thread - there are a fair few Posters who agree with me. Your belittling of the Subject does you no credit. We used to collect (pinch) them from the back of a Pub - then take them back to the local Shop. Worked a treat, added to my Pocket Money no end. Not just me either. I can't, to this day, understand how the Pub never missed those bottles.

Sadly - we'll never know.

For how much longer is our International Speedway Team going to be known by that bloody awful name TeamGB? Talk about stating the bloody obvious: i) It is a Team. ii) It is Great Britain. Why the hell can we not just call our International Team 'GREAT BRITAIN' so that we can have some pride in both the Team and our Country. But PLEASE not the obnoxious TeamGB - it is an abomination!!!!!
