  1. Will post results and a report here on today's meeting at Rye House in due course but right now I'm sure everyone's thoughts, like my own, are with Newcastle Diamond Lewis Kerr who was taken to hospital by the Air Ambulance following a heavy crash in today's Premier League Fours event at Peterborough.
  2. 4pm WEATHER CHECK At the track where the weather is fine, bright and sunny and that's how we're told it's going to stay, well at least until the sun sets! No hint of rain. As for traffic, flowing freely over heading for Bridge from North and queue that was on South headng towards Tunnel easing as we came through.
  3. 9.30am RACEDAY WEATHER CHECK: First raceday weather check and here in Erith, just across the Thames from Purfleet it's blue sky everywhere, sunny and warm. Further weather checks later whilst team news for tonight, and reactions to last night's match at Blunsdon can be found at both club's official websites so go to: www.lakesidehammers.com/ and www.swindonrobins.co/
  4. Richard Lawson was not in the heat 15 line up as he was not qualified to be in it as one of the Vortex Hammers top three scorers. Speedway recovery firstly to Adam Roynon who has confirmed that he's dislocated his previously broken collarbone; Adam Ellis who we await news from regarding the full extent of his hand injury and to Robbo with the hope that you're not feeling too ropey this morning!
  5. 5pm WEATHER UPDATE: No problems with the weather - a reminder that gates open at 6pm, racing starts at 7.30 and adult admission =
  6. 2.30pm RACEDAY WEATHER CHECK: Will shortly (3pmish) be picked up for the short distance journey from last slip road before Dartford Tunnels to Vortex Hammers Speedway office. Weather fine with more and more blue sky patches now showing through and NO hint of rain. Remember Just £5 Adult admission to tonight's match that gets underway at 7.30pm BBC Travel News suggests congestion from M20 to Dartford Tunnel Southside of Thames & Lakeside Services (exit to a1306 & stadium) to Thames Bridge Northside and will relate any further news on that once I'm at the track.
  7. I would most certainly think that a guy living less than five miles from the track would be in a far better position than someone (you DJ?) 160 miles away regarding weather conditions at the home of the Vortex Hammers.
  8. Incoming calls are diverted from the Lakeside speedway office at times it's not manned to another number (not mine!) DJ thanks to modern technology! I would hazard a guess that most clubs who do not own their stadiums make similar arrangements rather than use carrier pigeons!
  9. 12.15pm RACEDAY WEATHER CHECK: The sun's broken through and there's patches of blue sky above here in Erith just across the Thames from the track and NO hint of rain. A reminder that online ticket sales end at 1pm. Next update circa 2.30pm then I am off to the track to man the phone and answer all the "is it on?" calls For those who have/are purchasing tickets online, go to the club's official website at: http://www.lakesidehammers.com/ for further info including admission procedure etc. Am keeping up-to-date via BBC Travel with any poss problems on M25 around the Dartford Crossing. Will mention any in next and future Raceday Weather Checks.
  10. FIRST RACEDAY WEATHER CHECK - 9.15am: Here in Erith, just across the Thames from the circuit it's cloudy but dry with the sun attempting to poke through. Further weather checks throughout the day. For those who have/are purchasing tickets online, go to the club's official website at: http://www.lakesidehammers.com/ for further info.
  11. Fair enough but you'll never get a definitive answer to your question, unless everyone who goes to either Lakeside, Central Park or both circuits responds. Surely your query is akin to asking the 'how long is a piece of string' question on this thread isn't it?
  12. In Teaboy279's opinion Mr Hyam, but not necessarily a cast iron fact.
  13. It was a good day for the Scarboro family at the Adrian Flux Arena yesterday with dad Ricky winning the Open class and son Kurtis coming out on top in the Novice class. As we arrived "The Wall of Death" were dismantling and packing up their gear on the infield having been in action the previous day. Thankfully none of yesterday's competitors attempted to replicate any Wall of Death stunts although info received tends to suggest that Duane Wuerzburger might be singing soprano today after being forced to retire in the Novice Class 'B' final! 35 races including youth 125/150cc and 250cc action enjoyed by those taking part and watching. Results: OPEN CLASS: 1. Ricky Scarboro 2. Mick Skinner 3. Connor King INTERMEDIATE CLASS: 1. Paul Robinson 2. Mike Osborne 3. Trevor Bebbington NOVICE CLASS: 1. Kurtis Scarboro 2. David Chiles 3. Dave Smith YOUTH 125/150cc: 1. Jordan Palin 2. Jacob Clayton 3. Joe Bown YOUTH 250cc: 1. Charlie Brooks 2. Sam Bebee
  14. Go to the club's official website at http://www.lakesidehammers.com/ for details e.g. For the £5 admission tickets to apply, they should be purchase in advance.
  15. Good post ff - oh for the squeeky clean days of three day Northern tours e.g. Edinburgh, Berwick & Glasgow for southern clubs where riders and supporters stayed in the same hotels eh? And, no doubt, northern clubs / fans enjoyed similar trips to the south.
  16. Next questions: 1. What was the score in Crayford's four heat home AJL match against the Reading Rivets on 10.05.1983? 2. Which current league side team manager rode for the Rivets? 3. Who were the three others who also rode for Reading that night?` and on a different tack... 4. Who finished bottom of the 1980 AJL? 5. And who finished second to bottom?
  17. Some further info can be found at: http://www.kentkings.co/
  18. Especially for you sir then, and everyone else intending to be at tonight's meeting: 9.45am FIRST RACEDAY WEATHER CHECK: Would strongly recommend you don the shorts and Tshirts as it's going to be fine, bright, sunny and very, very warm all day!
  19. Indeed it was "gustix" BUT if you have copies of the said magazine in your possession then you are disqualified from participating further in the quiz questions that will follow in due course!
  20. To start this thread, most Crayford and Hackney fans will remember the Kestrel News but at which track did 'Not The Kestrel News' appear? And in what year?
  21. Really hope everyone travelling to the Land of My Fathers has a great time, alas I can't make it, but as I've suggested elsewhere in the 'Years gone By' section, please do just spare a moment's thought for all riders who either have lost their lives providing our entertainment over the years or have suffered life-changing injuries doing so. And spare another thought for Shazzy and all other staunch fans of our great sport who are no longer with us.
  22. Whatever you're doing this Saturday, especially if you are in the Millennium Stadium or at home watching the GP, please raise a glass in memory of Paul Muchene who 26 years ago to the day (hard to believe I know!) sadly lost his battle for life after being injured in a crash at Hackney on June 30. RIP Paul - I, and I'm sure all who knew you, will raise a glass to your memory this Saturday. Gone but never forgotten.
  23. Sad, sad news indeed and my thoughts are with Shazzy's own family and friends right now. The Speedway family has lost another good 'un too alas. RIP Shazzy.
  24. 5pm at track and it's great weather so see you later!
  25. 2.30pm RACEDAY WEATHER CHECK: Will be leaving for track shortly and pleased to report that here on Kent side about a mile from the Dartford crossing it's blue sky and sunshine. Will post a final weather update circa 5pm.
