Middlo Is Another Sven
Bryn replied to Vincent Vega's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Don't let 'em get to you Middlo mate! -
You're a hard man Pat! Just because Chris was feeling peckish whilst you was working yesterday and nicked one of your pasties from the fridge!

Always enjoyed my visits to Kingsmead - especially when Crayford won, which wasn't often! Never did win the dozen eggs donated as a raffle prize by Mrs Moon though!

Steve Piper --get Well Soon
Bryn replied to Main Man's topic in Youth Speedway and Development Leagues
The soppy old sausage! Fancy ending up in hospital again. Mind you he's probably in the same situation as myself - brain keeps telling me I'm still only 21 but body says you're ruddy joking mate! Get well soon Stevie! -

Thanks Colin for detailing your graphic memories of that fateful night. I don't think any of us present at Waterden Road on that night will ever forget it and I confess that reading your post sent a shiver down my spine. It also brought memories flashing back of other fatal speedway crashes I've had the misfortune to witness in my 40 years involvement in the sport and will never forget being present (at the rider's father's insistence) when doctors at a hospital broke the news that the rider in question was brain dead and requested permission to switch off the life support system. And having to give evidence at the inquest into the death of a rider in a track crash was something that is also indelibly lodged in my memory. I have also seen the pain and suffering injured riders go through in their determination to regain fitness and thus return to racing at the earliest opportunity. Too often riders are glibly critcised through this and other mediums but, I suppose, that will never change. As to Steve, some years back Re-Run videos produced a "History of Eastbourne Eagles" tape and I went to Steve's house and recorded an interview for same. I was somewhat staggered when he revealed that, despite being paralysed, he had started racing cars! -
Do you like pasta Buck? Final is at Teranzano in Italy on Sept 2.

Can't argue with that MJF - If anyone deserved a farewell meeting Stevie did. Now, did you know "Merve the Swerve" had a skid at Pioneer Park, Queensland last Week???? Well remember the first ever meeting at Blantyre and Merve's somewat erratic racing lines that night! scared the life out of dear old Jack Cuthbert who was timekeeping from the centre green! LOL

Thanks Tomaz!

Early night eh SS? ;-) I've JUST got in to my humble abode here in Kent and my feet hurt! Some damn good racing tonight I've got to say. Or rather LAST night! -
Ah but Steve, do nightmares as well as dreams sometimes come true?
-
OH MY GOD!!! I was so comfortable in my armchair watching tonight's Grand Prix that I fell asleep after its conclusion and had the weirdest dream which was probably down to the cheese and pickled onions sarnies I had devoured earlier - have to confess that my culinary skills are not that great! Anyway the dream must have been set in the future for in it I work up one morn, switched the computer on and logged onto the BSF. The first posting I read was from a certain forum member from the Poole area and it read," The signing of Jason Crump by the Pirates management is clearly THE masterstroke signing of the century. No other rider can match his skill or determination on a speedway bike and he is clearly head and shoulders above all others in every department. Forget the lesser mortals such as the Rickardssons, Lindbacks and Davidssons of this world and all others for Crumpie is THE man, THE very best rider there is or ever has been and the man who will lead the No.1 club in the World to yet another league title and will romp away with this year's Grand Prix series so al the other riders needn't bother turning up!" Weird dream eh? Or could it come true at some time in the future? Bryn (Note to myself - MUST learn how to cook!)

I'm one who's old enough to have seen Jonathan's dad Buster ride speedway - he used to crash a lot too! I'm sure everyone's relieved that Jonathan is on the mend and hey mate, leave riding bikes to the professionals eh? -

Ut oh! Here we go again! Thing is Daniel, the meeting wasn't due to take place '6.5 miles from King's Lynn!' Knowing the King's Lynn promotion as I do and trackman Huggy, I think I can confidently say that if they could have got the meeting on, then they would have. Just have a look at Steve's photos Daniel. -

QUOTE(Triple B's @ Apr 18 2006, 01:37 PM) From what I can remember Its £13 admission for adults There was an advert in the SS last week & from what I can remember the agenda is 2.00pm - 4.00pm Practise 5.00pm - 6.00pm autograph session 6.00pm - 7.00pm Live Band Then Parade at 7.30pm with first race 7.45pm. And someone wrote: Thanks for the info Triple B's. I'm surprised there's nothing yet on the official Norfolk Arena website. ------------------- Having just got back from the IOW where the home side nearly finished third I can tell everyone that there's a very good reason why there's been nothing on the NA official site. Had a text message from Jonathan Chapman during the IOW match asking me if I could put something up on both this forum and the unofficial King's Lynn one. That's because Jonathan was involved in an accident over the weekend and was taken into hospital or an emergency op and therefore has been unable to update any websites. The timetable for today is as above and the riders taking part (not necessarily in riding order) are: Edward Kennett; Ben Barker; Joel Parsons; Josh Auty; Ben Wilson; Richie Dennis; William Lawson; James Brundle; Luke Bowen; Lewis Bridger; James Wright; Benji Compton; Jason King; Daniel King and Steve Boxall. That leaves one place to be filled and there will be a "Vultures Race" between Simon Lambert, Jamie Courtney and Jack Hargreaves - the winner filling that vacant spot, the other two acting as meeting reserves. People (work permitting of course! ) are welcome to attend all the events shown on the timetable above. Bryn -
If he tries to deny it Youngy, you now have proof - and a witness too!

Clearing out my office (or rather attempting to clear it out!) I've come across the details of Crayford's maximum win over Workington and they are as follows Crayford 65 Workington 12 Tuesday 15th July 1980 (second half of a double header with Berwick) Workington operated rider-replacement for Ian Hindle and we lent them TONY BROOKS as their No.8. Tony got one ride - in heat 13(!!) and was leading from the tapes I recall! I also recollect that, from mid-match onwards, the tension in the Crayford side of the pits became almost unbearable with ALL the riders petrified that THEY would be the one to drop a point!! Cheers Bryn CRAYFORD Paul Woods 3 3 3 3 12 Alan Sage 2' 2' 3 2' 9 (3) Steve Naylor 3 3 3 3 12 Laurie Etheridge 2' 2' 2' 2' 8 (4) Les Rumsey 3 3 3 2' 11 (1) Alan Johns 2' 2' 2' 6 (3) Mick Pither 3 2' 2' 7 (2) WORKINGTON: Ian Hindle rider replacement Des Wilson 0 1 1 1 3 Ian Robertson 1 1 1 1 0 4 Kevin Clapham 1 0 0 0 0 1 Wayne Jackson 0 1 1 1 3 Greg Irvine X 0 F 0 Alan Armstrong X 0 0 0 0 Tony Brooks * 1 1 HEATS: 1. Third place for "The Prince of Port Adelaide" I see! No doubt he, and others, celebrated in style at the Blue Room afterwards! -
I'm a little surprised that Nevsy hasn't extolled the virtues of Exeter's 75-15 demolition of Arena Essex in 2000 at this point!
-
Yep - was in the pits when Crayford beat Workington 65-12.
-
Bah! Can't stand the pace eh Shaz?!! Whilst you had an early night WE were still going strong in the bar at the Marriott Hotel in Swindon after the Association of Speedway Referees Pi.... sorry Dinner and Dance! Mind you, the headache pills took some time to work after I eventualy surfaced mid-morn!
