  1. Meeting yet to start as ambulance hasn't turned up yet! Spoke to Lunchy and, in view of the heat he is, quite naturally, supping a Bundy & coke. Just hope ambulance arrives before he gets blotto!! Jeez now someone has been stung by a Bee in the pits and has suffered an allergic reaction! Coventry fans eh?
  2. No doubt you'll be taking plenty of liquid on board then Lunchy throughout the evening! Got full list of scorers please from last night? Bryn
  3. He's an up and coming youngster Lioness who I had quite a long chat to as well as his dad! Richard is sweet 16 I Believe Darrell. Rumour has it that it's going to be a tad warm tomorrow there - 42c my friends in Adelaide tell me! Wish I was there especially as the track announcer kept going on about cheap booze at the bar. Mind you it WAS coopers Mild! YUK!
  4. Whoopee flipping do! (For want of a better expression!) They cut off live stream before giving final points tallies but, unofficially I make the seven qualifiers for tomorrow's final (points in brackets): James Holder (14), John Oliver (13), Richard Sweetman (13), Ryan Sedgmen (12), Mitchell Davey (11), Arlo Bugeja (11), Josh Grajczonek (10) - Reserves: Brock Gates (9), Jake Anderson (8). They join the seeded riders who are: Troy Batchelor Cory Gathercole Trevor Harding Tom Hedley Chris Holder Robert Ksiezak Tyron Proctor Kozza Smith Aaron Summers
  5. And I "fell over" as you put it when I was sober! Looks like Arlo Bugeja was on 7 points after three rides and not six. Wins for Tom Armstrong, Bugeja. Holder and Sweetman in next batch of races with Oliver pegged back into third by Holder and Sedgmen in heat 15. So, unofficially, points standings for leaders are: Holder 11, Sweetman 11, Oliver 10, Bugeja 10, Grajsczonek 9, Sedgmen 9, Davey 9, Gates 8. BTW BFD, you been on the sauce??? Chris Holder is seeded straight through to tomorrow of course!
  6. Unofficial leading scorers after three rides each: John Oliver 9, James Holder 8, Richard Sweetman 8, Arlo Bugeja 8, Josh Grajczonek 7, Ryan Sedgmen 6, Mitchell Davey 6, Brock Gates 6. Interspersed with the speedway heats are gokart races - they sond like a load of flipping bees!
  7. 14 riders only - lengthy delay after tapes malfunction at start of opening heat. Finally gets underway and James Holder collects an easy win over Arlo Bugeja and John Oliver gets off to a winning start in heat 3 but Ryan Sedgman breaks the tapes and is excluded from heat 4 which leaves just two riders for re-run - more follows
  8. Although George Major had been ill when I last heard (hope he's better now), he lives on the Isle of Wight and, over the years has been quite involved with the Wightlink Islanders including, at one time, being team manager.
  9. New IOW signing Cory Gathercole added the Victorian State Solo Championship to his impressive growing list of honours last night. Courtesy of Jane Collier, the final placings were: 1st - Cory Gathercole 2nd - Cameron Woodward 3rd - Tyron Proctor 4th - Tom Headley 5th - Jason Stewart 6th - Aaron Summers 7th - Ryan Sedgmen 8th - Brock Gates 9th - Sam Dore 10th - Arlo Bugeja 11th - Jake Anderson 12th - Karlis Ezergailis 13th - Matt Jones 14th - Ben Walsh 15th - Bob Stoneham 16th - Quinton Byrne
  10. In the period 1968 to 1970, Crayford was something of a 'nursery' for young riders in the late Mike Parker's stable. Many actually lived in the Midlands and had strong Wolverhampton connections e.g. Dave Parry now very much involved as a sponsor with the modern day Monmore Green set up. From memory Dave only had a handful of meetings in our first season as indeed did Arthur Price whom I'm sure many will remember. First real 'heroes' at London Road were, I would suggest, Archie Wilkinson and Geoff Ambrose. Then. of course, there was also "Smiler" alias Mick Handley and the likes of Derek Timms, Tony Childs, Tony Armstrong (whom I believe now lives in Canada), Chris Harrison, Big Judd Drew and Georgie Devenport. Jeez the memories are flooding back! Moving onto 1975 onwards, bumped into Colin "joe" Gooddy a few years back at Poole I seem to recall, always remember on arrival at Glasgow (Blantyre) Tony Featherstone asking Jimmy Beaton Snr, "what time do the potatoes come up?" - NOT the most diplomatic question to ask eh? A banner some fans made up for the coach to the 4TT finals one year which said, "Drink Canada Dry - Les Rumsey did!" Think even Les laughed at that! Laurie Etheridge winning the New NL Riders Champs at Wombledon and the Fours win at P'boro....Ah so many memories
  11. So will I Mike if it comes to fruition. What you doing nowadays Bryn

  16. And, having visited his abode here in Oz I can exclusively reveal that he makes his own jam when here too! In addition, a visit to his workshop situated under his house really is mind boggling - I don't think Streety EVER throws anything away!

Pairs title is tomorrow. Interested spectators included Jason Crump, Steve Regeling, Trent Leverington (acting as flag marshal despite his injured arm still being in plaster!), Stephen Davies, Mitch Shirra, Mick Poole and both Lukas and Ales Dryml. 20. You obviously never bothered reading the Kestrel News that I used to slave over for hours producing on my cheapo portable typrewriter from W.H. Smiths Parsnips old fruit! If you had you'd have known that Garry May was actually a local rider living in Old Bexley at the time he rode for us. When he and the family moved to Dorset, the last I heard Garry was something to do with sea diving. Elder brother Graham was living in the Medway Towns last I heard and I'm not sure about the whereabouts of the third of the boys, Kevin who as the legend that is Yorky has said (I've had a couple of Bundys you might gather frojm that last bit!) has already said also had a dabble at speedway. Haven't run into Mum Pat in the last few years on my visits to Poole where she and hubby Wally became fans following their move from Kent. Surprised too that you didn't know that Cliff Ott was indeed a relative (cousin I believe) of Les. And bearing in mind you saw TB as one of your early heroes, I take it you didn't frequent London Road in the Highwaymen days then?
  21. Try Mike Patrick's site: http://www.mike-patrick.com/gallery_2/v/Hot+Pix+2007 That's another Bundy he owes me!
  22. You could ask Tony if he thinks it was a wise thing to do to ask Jimmy Beaton Snr "What time do the potatoes come up," one night when we (Crayford) arrived at Blantyre! :-)
  23. To use Scott's own words, "the engine grenaded itself!"
