Paul Hurry Testimonial
Bryn replied to shazzybird's topic in Speedway Testimonials & Individual and Shared Events
Paul's website is now up and running so for further details go to: http://www.hurryracing.co.uk/ Normal admission prices for Lakeside Hammers matches will apply on the night and a special souvenir programme, that will become a real collectors item, will be on sale separately at £3.50. It should be stressed that season tickets and/or rain off tickets from last week's postponed Wolves match are NOT valid for this meeting. Hopefully the weather will be kind, fans will turn out in force to pay tribute to Paul and I'm really looking forward to it especially seeing most, if not all the team members from that magical 1991 season back together again. That includes Bo Petersen and Brian Karger and I just hope that they'll not be driving over to this country in convoy practicing their 'team riding' by constantly swopping positions just as they did as we travelled across the A66 on one of our northern trips that year with me being a passenger in one of the vans. Trust me both could teach Lewis Hamilton a thing or two! -

Well if not Matt, how about Shovvy??? -
Jeez it's cold around the lugholes this morning BUT it was all in a great cause wasn't it? Thanks to everyone who chipped in sponsorship that has already enabled us to hand over £150 (with I think more to come) to Johno on what was a really great day for one of the sports great characters. And talking of characters, Billy Janniro (now known as Sweeney Todd!) - well what can I say???? Well for one thing, PLEASE stick to riding speedway Billy cos you sure as hell won't make it as a barber and Vidal Sassoon has nothing to fear!!!! All in all a great day at Coventry yesterday and it was wonderful to see so many there paying tribute to the man in question especially so many riders and ex-riders who, although not actually competing just HAD to be there to say, "Johno - thanks mate!" The DVD will b well worth getting for sure! Bryn

Now look here BFD, as a Welshman who for some silly reason feels a tad sorry for my English mates that we beat 'em in last year's six nations, I thought I'd try and make the poms feel at home by having a whinge like what they do as my cockney mates would say! Besides which, having been to Oz for five of the last six winters, I think it's best to say, "I don't 'do' cold!"

My prediction for next weekend in Cardiff is a cast iron certainty to come true and it is that, over the course of the weekend, many, many people who have travelled from far and wide will all utter those immortal words, "my head hurts!"

I've been racking my brain (I do have one believe it or not!), so too has my mate Steve who was the driving force behind the Crayford Speedway Supporters Club for years, as to who a certain rider is in the Crayford photos on the Retro Speedway site. Can anyone put us out of our misery? Go to: http://retro-speedway.com/extras/autogalle...ders%2FCrayford page 3, sandwiched between Pete Thorogood and Pete Wigley on the second line - (76-2) - anyone got any ideas? Steve & I would point out incidentally that on page 1, in the photo next to Brad Dowsett on the bottom line, the rider on the left is Colin Archer and not Richard Davey.

The good news (at least I think it's good news from my point of view!) is that I will be there on Sunday as I'm coming up to Brandon with the Re-Run crew who will not only be filming the meeting but the dastardly deed. All I can say to those who will be carrying out their impressions of upmarket barbers is please be gentle with me - I'm a bloke!
-
A Bit of a Longshot Maybe But....... Are there any forum members going to Johno's big day on Sunday by car from Kent / Surrey / London and who have a spare seat that this little 'un might very gratefully take advantage of? The reason for my request is that there are engineering works on the railway and, given that, it looks as if it might take me nigh on four hours (or even more!) to get to Brandon by public transport. If there is anyone who might be able to help then please either PM me or phone on 07774 935468. Cheers Bryn

World Under 21 Semi Final At Rye House!
Bryn replied to Trees's topic in Speedway Testimonials & Individual and Shared Events
I've no idea either Ian - could it be something to do with the actual material they use on tracks? -

Bryn replied to Trees's topic in Speedway Testimonials & Individual and Shared Events
And what gives you the notion that it wasn't? Arriving at the circuit at 9.30am the track looked very wet indeed and, talking to Len S he told us that, after getting the track back after Saturday's practice he absolutely flooded the circuit overnight and had been back at the circuit since very early Sunday morning and had done so again and his efforts were plain to see. Throughout the morning, once the track began to dry, he was out there again with the water tanker. I really cannot see that he could have done any more given the drying conditions that prevailed throughout the day. -

Hang your head in shame Mother T! Tut! Tut! Dishing out beer instead of being at Rye! Luckily for you, meeting was filmed by T2TV - I'll let you know when tis on sale. Didn't venture out of the pits as was at the flipping stadium at 9.15am thanks to going with clerk of the course Fred Parkin so apologies for not hooking up with forum members. Was out of bed at 7.15am this morn - never realised that time existed on a Sunday - well not since my teenage days when that was the sort of time we got home after a good Saturday night! Bizarre location? Pub next door and rail station next to that - what MORE do you want??? -
Now now Trackman! How on earth was I supposed to know that some inconsiderate so and so had put a flippin sandbank in the middle of a wide, wide river thing!

Sure is a glorious morn except that I cannot come to terms with having to get up at the crack of dawn! Good luck to the Brits and the two Aussies (my 'adopted' country!) Looking forward to a great meeting. -
