  1. Weather's fine here at track, puter probs sorted. 1830hrs, meeting ON, might turn chilly though
  2. Wightlink Warrior Andy won't be able to access this forum for a couple of days so, for a full IOW Fixture list go to: http://www.wightwarriors.co/ and click on the drop down menu on top left hand corner on your screen. Well worth visiting the club's media channel too at Speedwayportal.com - drop down to the bottom of the opening page and click on the appropriate panel. A lot of work has taken place during the winter refurbishing both the stadium and track, the latter being fitted with an airfence for the very first time, and several travel deals have been negotiated for both vehicle and foot passenger crossings etc. Full details again on the club's website. Plenty to see and do in addition to the speedway so see you there!
  3. So glad that the sun is shining in Torun, Excellent live stream of Darcy's big day on my trusty old Mac, the parade has started and there looks to be a good crowd! Not every seat filled though but there's a heck of a lot of seats in the stadium. I'm going to enjoy watching it!
  4. FINAL WEATHER UPDATE - NOON It's a beautiful day, speedway's coming our way! 27 heats starting at 1pm
  5. WEATHER CHECK UPDATE - 9,.48am Slightly earlier than planned as we're leaving earlier than I planned for! NO change, the sun's blazing, meeting ON.
  6. RACEDAY WEATHER CHECK 8.15am - GOOD FRIDAY Can't believe I'm up out of my pit this early on Good Friday but there's a very good reason because it's raceday at Lakeside to and the Vortex Hammers looking to land one on those Norfolk Stars. And the good news is here near Dartford (just the Kent side of the crossing) there's clear blue skies and a big orange ball up in the sky so today's meeting is most definitely ON and a reminder that it's a 1pm start. The hour-by-hour forecast indicates there will be NO rain today now the overnight stuff has moved away, temperatures will reach 13c by 1pm (I'd still pack a jumper in your bag!) so wherever you intend to travel from, COME ON DOWN! Next update circa 10.15am before we leave for the track and then direct from the speedway office there.
  7. I respect your point of view and no problem accepting that you feel the way you do Richard. In terms of the National League being THE future of British speedway, isn't it one important rung on the ladder for British youngsters/talent wanting to make racing speedway their career as they progress from the very bottom that basically starts with 'Have a go yourself' type events on training tracks, supervised training school sessions and then competing in the excellent British Youth Championship. From there, as they continue to progress and when old enough, they would be eased into the Midland Development League or similar (I believe I'm right in saying the Northern Development League is likely to operate in 2016). As they continue to make progress and again are ready to do so. they step further up the ladder riding in the National League when they and then the PL, EL, under 21 Champs etc etc as they chase their dream of following in Tai Woffinden's footsteps and become the next top Brit. That's they way I see it, it'll take time but (and someone please correct me if I'm wrong) with Junior grasstrack meetings cut to the bone compared to the past, riding speedway could well be the way more youngsters will choose - I certainly hope it is!
  8. Confirmed by BSPA Press Office - tonight's KL v Lakeside POSTPONED. Rescheduled for tomorrow at 8pm so it's Lakeside v KL starting at 1pm then up the road to Saddlebow for the return starting at 8pm!
  9. If you don't normally purchase the Speedway Star DO try and get hold of this week's edition and I feel sure you won't be disappointed because it's superb! The 128 page season preview is speedway's equivalent of War and Peace and most certainly you'll need a fair while to read it from cover to cover. Whilst accepting that on all subjects there could be and indeed should be constructive criticism and fully fledged gripes when any situation demands that there be so, I hope we won't get too many posts on this thread moaning about it for the sake of moaning which to me has appeared to have become more prevalent on many threads on the BSF and other forums. Yes there are going to be the odd mistake within this week's 128 pager but not that many I'll wager although I would point out that the Adult admission price to IOW Wightlink Warriors' home meeting will be £11 and not £13 as shown accepting that it could have been me pressing the wrong key on my keyboard that led to the error! Right, better get back to reading! Bryn
  10. Don't think anybody will know right now especially given the contents of the statement the BSPA put out today. At the moment it's very much wait and see isn't it?
  11. 6.30pm FINAL RACEDAY WEATHER CHECK: Meeting ON and wrap up warm!
  12. 4.20pm WEATHER CHECK: Sorry this is later than planned but being the opening meeting it's been a tad hectic! NO change to earlier weather check, meeting ON, wrap up warm!
  13. FIRST RACEDAY WEATHER CHECK - 18.03.2016 12.30pm and here in Erith, Kent just across the Thames from the track (circa 3 or 4 miles away) it's cloudy, dry and a little bit nippy BUT the main thing is that speedway IS back tonight so come on, be there for the Spring Trophy! Gates open 6pm, autograph session at 7pm, meeting starts at 8pm and I'd suggest, that like myself will be doing, you wrap up warm. Next Weather Check will be posted direct from the track circa 3pm. Special adult admission prices tonight, kids free up to certain age so for full details & preview go to: http://www.lakesidehammers.com/
  14. My apologies! Not sure where I got today's date from now but most certainly it would have been on the internet somewhere. Will duly alter my diary dates but fact remains that many, including myself, who had the pleasure of seeing him ride over here will be sad that he's no longer alive.
  15. Also hope to add BTsports coverage as interested in both our sport and rugby but only a passing interest in soccer now given the ludicrous cost of everything e.g. to get into matches, players wages & transfer fees plus it's developed into a non-contact sport where diving and theatrics earn free kicks etc! Anyway contacted BT yesterday and my online chat, which included me possibly switching from Sky ended with their operator Simi (doing his/her job I know!) ended with following exchanges: Simi: I recommend our Entertainment Plus + Unlimited BT Infinity 1 + Anytime Calls package. With this you'll get totally unlimited usage and up to 38Mb download speeds. Plus you can watch our BT Sport Pack for FREE with BT TV with all 350 UEFA Champions League and Europa League matches and 38 Barclays Premier League games live and much, much more. You also get up to 27 premium Entertainment channels, AMC channel, up to 80 Freeview channels, catch-up TV and a YouView+ box. It's £25 a month for 12 months plus £17.99 monthly line rental, on a 12 month contract. The TV activation is free and Infinity activation is only £49 with a £7.95 delivery charge that'll go on your first bill. Bryn: And that will mean me losing all Sky Channels? Simi: Which channels are you referring to? Bryn: Sky 1, 2, 3, 4 Sky sports amongst others Simi: We do not offer these channels. We offer Sky Sports 1 and 2, you can add Sky Sports 1 & 2 for £22 more a month. Or Sky Sports 1 HD & Sky Sports 2 HD for £27 a month Bryn: In other words on a limited pension it'll cost me a fortune! Thanks for your help, can you please email details you've listed to me at awzv22@dsl.pipex.com please and I'll think about it. Again thanks for your help. Simi: We are unable to email out, you can email this chat to yourself by clicking on the envelope icon. Simi: This offer ends today. Bryn: That's pressure selling surely! I know you're only doing your job but why can't you email me full details of what BTsports and BT can offer me? Simi: We cannot email out, we are unable to do this, we only have access to the BT Website. Simi: You do not have to take the package, but the deal does end today, and there is a timer on the website. Bryn: Well I'll explore other avenues but can't see me switching my existing arrangements to BT and will, with no refection upon yourself Simi, be letting BT know my feelings. Thanks, BRYN Simi: I understand. Simi: You're welcome. Crazy!
  16. Thanks for pointing that out and have duly edited my original post.
  17. Indeed it's hard to believe that Deon Prinsloo, whom I sure many will remember riding in the UK, sadly lost his life five years ago today. R.I.P. Deon
  18. My latest info shows that the Wightlink Warriors have a reserved date for a home match on Thursday June 2. No doubt Andy / myself will keep you updated as will the club's website at: http://www.wightwarriors.co/
  19. Mike, news of the change of dates for both the KL v Coventry (EL) clash that'll now be on Sky and the Young Stars v Stoke (NL) match was put on the Official King's Lynn website - http://klstars.co.uk/ - two days ago. Hope you're OK. Cheers, Bryn
  20. Club statement can be found at: http://www.lakesidehammers.com/
  21. PLEASE NOTE! (particularly "The Voice of Reason") a) I am NOT part of the Lakeside Hammers management nor their press officer I've got far more important tasks to concentrate on other than pandering to your wishes including getting an infection in my right foot sorted out (and time is rapidly running out!) in order that I may walk my beautiful daughter down the aisle on Saturday. Might I suggest that you attend the club's fans forum on on Feb 18 to find answers - the venue is 'just down the road' from Birmingham isn't it! A very upset and angry BRYN WILLIAMS!
  22. Alas will have to miss it but have good reason to as I've got to walk my daughter Carys down the aisle to give her away!
  23. Given the label you've given Jon Cook in your post below, can we take it as read that you won't be attending the Lakeside Hammers Fans Forum at the Orsett Hall Hotel on Feb 18 at 7.30pm? Pity as you could have questioned him and introduced yourself to me at the same time.
  24. As things continue to gear up for the return of speedway to Smallbrook Stadium, as well as the Wightlink Warriors official club website, all news of events being held at the stadium including private hire details can be found at: https://www.facebook.com/Premier-Lounge-1724034951216305/ And not to be left out you can find all regular updated news of upcoming training schools and special offers for My First Skid on Twitter and at: https://www.facebook.com/My-First-Skid-Speedway-School-162…/
