  1. With respect 'gustix' and fully acknowledging your knowledge of the past in speedway, the NL is not about that for it is about the future i.e. being a step on the ladder to ultimate success in the sport. Hence emphasis is placed quite rightly on young riders when it comes to assembling sides at the beginning of any season. Having said that, I see nothing wrong at all with the inclusion of one experienced rider in a side to pass on knowledge gained during a career and help the youngsters develop their own individual talents in a team racing environment.
  2. My humblest apologies for trying to make you a sight more grander than you are!
  3. With respect 'Halifaxtiger' why were you 'waiting for that one' as my response was directed towards 'Grand Central' and, as you can see he has to listen to his boss! Seriously though, where exactly would the money come from? The club's in debt, it's struggling to find funds to by an air fence which it HAS to by to continue and, like most club's when it comes to the nitty gritty of actually physically doing things e.g. handing out leaflets, lots of people may have come up with ideas on forums such as this and at supporters meetings etc but few get involved. At this moment in time, it's 'crunch time' with the priority being to save the club, find the necessary funds for the air fence etc., and thus operate in 2014 for, as TMW has alluded to, if the Wightlink Islanders don't operate in 2014, it's going to be nigh on impossible for speedway to return there. Just look at Reading, Hackney, Wimbledon, Halifax, Bradford...
  4. What on earth have the last four or so posts got to do with this thread???
  5. What form of advertising are you suggesting is a must then 'halifaxtiger?' I can vouch for starters in the year you refer to that over 70 separate press releases were each distributed to 40 plus different outlets both on the IOW and nationally.
  6. That's where I've put it to be read John - surely it's up to you to do what is necessary if you want to read it. You could always join , read and then leave couldn't you?
  7. Go to: https://www.facebook.com/groups/294612857236337/ to see official press release issued in advance of vital shareholders (i.e. the fans) meeting next Tuesday. Trust me "Ray Stadia" it's NO smokescreen.
  8. Apology duly accepted. Given the list of riders that have begun their UK league careers at Smallbrook and then gone onto higher levels, it will be very sad to see the club cease to operate if that proves to be the final outcome. Mind you my lottery numbers could come up this weekend couldn't they?
  9. The Wightlink Islanders fans already subsidise their club as it is they who are the shareholders in the somewhat unique operating company rather than an individual putting up the money. Alas though the point has seemingly been reached when a decision has to be taken as to whether the club can continue or not and the signs aren't very good.
  10. The rules under which all league matches on licensed tracks ran last season, as has been pointed out to you Derek, were freely available to all via the SCB website at: http://www.scbgb.co.uk/ but never mind, for this thread is about the possibility of Plymouth entering a side in said league so let's get back to that eh?
  11. What's spurious about said reference? Are you inferring that it's false / bogus / fake / forged and others which are all synonyms for said word?
  12. Was intending to be down under and wish I was SC but stupidly fell over (AND I was sober!) at Swindon resulting in replacement hip joint! Ah well there's always next year!
  13. At a guess PoP, and purely as a guess ............ 'im and 'im!
  14. Because I felt like doing so as it's the league's correct full title as you well know Parsnips (at least you should do! ), and by doing that try to ensure your mate 'gustix' didn't get hold of the wrong end of the stick as he appeared to be doing in his posting that prompted me to post on this thread.
  15. Don't know what you are getting so worked up about Parsnips old fruit for might I suggest that you take a look at page 37 in the 2013 Speedway Regulations for starters and you could then go onto page 41. If you can't find your copy, then you could always go to: http://www.scbgb.co.uk/pdf/regulations/2013%20SPEEDWAY%20REGULATIONS.pdf Granted the working title is shortened to The NL.
  16. Let's not get too carried away right now "gustix" for although I as an avid supporter of the National Development League would hope to see more clubs join it including maybe Plymouth, no official announcements have been forthcoming at this stage. I think we should bear in mind that within the original newspaper report one of the Plymouth's co-promoters, David Short, stressed that the creation of a NDL side was just being talked about at that stage and feel it best to wait and see what official news emerges from the league's AGM on December 10.
  17. It was drummed into me at an early age that "everything comes to he who waits." Alas patience, especially on this forum at times, no longer appears to exist!
  18. Well to illustrate the point I was trying to make I've used my search engine i.e. Google, typed in "Ralph Horne speedway" and been provided with a number of links to where info for him could be found and, from one of those links I've discovered that Ralph rode one race for Sheffield in their NL Div 2 away match at Coventry on 7th May 1949, that ride being in heat 8 where unfortunately he fell heavily and was taken to hospital for observation. Nowadays it's so easy to research info you are after "gustix" and trust me, I'm NO computer buff!
  19. Surprised you didn't do any research before asking "gustix" for Gary was a Poole rider for five seasons.
  20. By reading the majority of postings on the BSF? Luckily, as I frequently told my Aussie mates out there, I'm not a Pom, I'm Welsh!
  21. Are you going to do as I suggested then Parsnips old fruit?
  22. That'll teach me to start a thread before having my second Welsh Rugby Union mug full of coffee on any morning! Topic title duly amended!
