  1. Will poss be at the Premier League Fours - that'll be enough for me! Personally I prefer the racing at King's Lynn and always have but am pleased that the Panthers WILL be racing this year.
  2. I'm going to miss my weekly Tuesday return one day trips "abroad" from here in Kent to the IOW but will be there for shareholders meeting in October. Hopefully shareholders will be provided with up to date accounts as last set they were given were unaudited ones up to 28th February 2013. Now any ideas as to what to do on Tuesday afternoons & evenings?
  3. Interesting post Parsnips old fruit BUT aren't you supposed to be decorating?
  4. I too would hope that Wightlink have been thanked by the club's directors for their superb backing over the years for without it we wouldn't have seen speedway staged at Smallbrook from 1996 until 2013. Whether or not they would be able to offer similar backing to the club if the sport were to return to the venue at some time in the future remains to be seen.
  5. Guess you're unhappy that new deal has been announced eh?
  6. Totally agree Lioness especially having made a good friend during my time at Oxford Speedway who, despite having been battling the horrible disease for many years, is amongst those closely involved in the campaign to bring speedway back to Cowley.
  7. No good I'm afraid as I gave up smoking in March 2012.
  8. I suggest you read 'Conkers' post! Meanwhile anyone got any ideas as to best thing(s) to do to help ease an aching neck?
  9. If anyone after reading the clues you've given in your posting Conkers still fails to grasp the fact that Tai is indeed British, then I fear I might have severe neck problems as a result of shaking my head in sheer disbelief!
  10. Not sure what 'gustix' is getting at posting the above! The press release is on the IOW website.
  11. With respect 'gustix' a Press Release following last night's meeting was emailed out to the normal 45 outlets on the Wightlink Islanders press release distribution list at 3.58am this morning.
  12. A sad day indeed with our sport left to mourn the passing of another of speedway's truly great characters and my thoughts are with his family at this time. Those of us who had the pleasure of knowing him well will never forget him. I fully agree with all the thoughts concerning him expressed by 'Spiegal' above. RIP Alf - it was a honour to have known you.
  13. The BSPA have announced dates & venues for a six round championship this morning. Go to: http://www.speedwaygb.co/ for details.
  14. Although I couldn't possibly comment, some might say the riders any team manager picks in his side should not be making mistakes either but they do! That's life isn't it? EVERYONE makes mistakes - even "the best team manager in the country" to use your own definition of him! I'm just hoping speedway never follows the oh-so-ludicrous example being currently shown within top league soccer in the UK when, if anything goes wrong at any club it's deemed all the manager's fault, he gets sacked / paid off and toddles off to await the next offer to come his way leaving another (who was probably blamed and sacked from the manager's/ assistant manager's position at another club in the past following a run of poor results!) to be drafted into the job and hailed as some sort of miracle worker! Anyway well done to Middlo for his considerable efforts, congrats and good luck to Rosco in the job and with Phil Morris / Neil Vatcher working hard on the development of young British talent, in the look term things look fairly promising to me.
  15. Thanks for that JL and I can confirm that shareholders have not been provided with any additional info to that from Companies House which you have interpreted.
  16. As I've stressed several times I'm not an accountant so forgive me for asking JL but it's obvious you're in a position to answer! My simple query is would 'loans' appear in filed accounts given to company shareholders or not together with any relevant details e.g. amounts, when made, by whom and length of loan? I can confirm once again that the company, i.e. Island Speedway (IOW) Limited holds a long term lease on the entire site (I believe there's still 44 years left on that lease), receiving income from other activities in addition to speedway.
  17. And I see no justification in your comments bearing in mind you're not a shareholder of the company that was set up by speedway fans with the prime intention of ensuring the continuance of speedway racing at Smallbrook thus leading to the conclusion in many shareholders minds I'll wager that if speedway were to cease at the venue, then there's no point in Island Speedway (IOW) Ltd continuing to operate.
  18. I stand to be corrected but as far as I'm aware the speedway company i.e. Island Speedway (IOW) Ltd are the overall leaseholders of the site (believe there's still around 44 years remaining on that) and receive income from all other activities that take place there although I'm not certain whether that includes the Table Tennis (would have to check on that). Those activities that generate income in addition to speedway include rent from the mini-cab firm now based there, catering, bar sales, rent from soccer / cricket clubs etc. etc., gym facilities, income from private functions and no doubt there may be other sources.
  19. Some interesting figures there TDS - where did you get them from may I ask? The reason I ask is that so far as I'm aware, shareholders (myself included) have only been supplied with "UNAUDITED FINANCIAL STATEMENTS FOR THE YEAR ENDING 28 FEBRUARY 2013." Now there's no way I've ever been 'into' company accounts as I never fancied becoming an accountant (perhaps that was a mistake on my part as I've never met a broke one!) but I find this baffling to say the least as NO AUDITED figures have been provided for that year let alone any audited / unaudited ones for the period since! Any accountants out there who might be able to offer some sort of explanation why that should be please? Confused of Erith!
  20. Not at all "gustix" as Island Speedway (IOW) Ltd was set up on the basis that you had one equal vote on matters whether you held five (the minimum amount) or 500 shares. The next Shareholders meeting (which I'm not alone I suspect in feeling that it'll somewhat lively!) will take place at Smallbrook on Tuesday January 21 at 7pm.
  21. Not at all Peasepud my old mate BUT don't want to get too involved in this topic for, thinking about it and doing some brief research, I'm horrified to realise that I'll never see speedway again at: Birmingham (Ladbrokes stadium), Birmingham (Wheels), Bradford, Canterbury, Castleford, Coatbridge, Cradley Heath, Crayford, Crewe, Doncaster, Edinburgh (Powderhall), Ellesmere Port, Exeter (County Ground), Felton, Glasgow (Blantyre), Glasgow (Craighead Park), Glasgow (Shawfield), Glasgow (Hampden Park), Hackney, Halifax (The Shay), Hull (New Craven Park), Hull (The Boulevard)..... Jeez that's enough (and I can think of many more on 'my' list!) as, with the IOW's Smallbrook stadium about to join the list, it's getting me feeling well and truly miserable BUT, thinking positively, with luck and good fortune I WILL see speedway again at Sandy Lane!
  22. All of them but most of all Crayford, Hackney, West Ham and Cradley for the pork sarnies like everyone else! And, alas, I fear the Isle of Wight are about to join the extensive list of speedway tracks sadly no longer with us!
  23. To obtain the info you're after, might I respectfully suggest that you try telephoning the stadium during normal office hours on 01983 811180.
  24. I'm sure that having been made aware of the facts Tsunami, when comparing Ping Pong to Table Tennis people would conclude that it's the same only different!
  25. Alas there are just not enough clubs interested / suitable to / able to field teams to make resurrecting the Anglia Junior Development League viable/possible.
