Is L.D. Gunnestad injured or is it his lack of scoring that is keeping him of the team? Haven't seen him in the line-up for the Divisjon 1 team either. There is no update on the Smedarna hompage as to why he isn't riding aswell. Haven't seen younger brother Thomas in any line-up in Sweden this year either. Oh, and big plus for having AC/DC playng inbetween the action. Hard rock and speedway, oh yes! -
I know. It's heartbreaking to watch. I surely hope he'll get back in to shape soon. AJ did good last night though. Nice takeovers. Also waiting for L.D. Gunnestad to take his first point in Allsvenskan.

Swedish Grand Prix

But 14000 at a stadium wich rooms 43200 is a bit bleak. Even with sunny weather, wich could have drawn an additional crowd, the outcome would not have been any different. I said it last year, and I stand by it still: Arrange the meetings according to the crowds. Had it been at a speedway stadium, or any smaller venue, the place wold have been packed. I'd love to see the sport fill Nya Ullevi to the brim with fans, but I think I'll be lain in a wooden box six feet under before that'll happen. -
Swedish Grand Prix

I hate rain meetings, but at least some of the heats provided some exitement. Too bad they had to pull out after 16 heats, but what can you do... It was pouring down. However, I get the feeling that they were going "hold on! Just to heat 16! We won't have to do a re-run!". Give them jet-skis and let them finish, dammit And Holta? I thought he was getting better. He didn't convince Tuesday, and certanly not tonight. I hope he gets his act together sooner than later. I enjoyed seeing Lindbäck kicking ass. -

The camera from Masarna - Smedarna is going on and off, and has a poor stream. Really sad, 'cause this is a good initiative. Hopefully it wil be fixed somehow sometime, and sooner than later. -
Stavanger, Norway, obviously. And anywhere else I might be at a given time

Happy with 9 points for Holta, concidering he said he'd be satisfied bagging 2 or 3 points due to his injury. And why did the ref stop the race when Gollob fell? It was the last round and all. He must have had doubts, but if you ask me, he should have let them finish. And a delightful response from Lindgren when asked, or told that he should be happy with 11 points: "I wanna win, mate" -

Grand Prix Speedway 2011

One can always hope -
I hope they'll come to an agreement before the series kick off. The sport will survive without the Poles, but they will be sorely missed. I follow Swedish elite on Canal+, and will be gutted not to see Holta racing, aswell as Gollob, PP, Kolodziej and the other Poles. Why hasn't there been further development on these silencers if they are a safety hazard? Surely contracts and money, but nevertheless further research and development should be done to root out safety hazards before noise reductions. As for the electric speedway bike: If this is the future, just shoot me and bury me at Riska or Elgane along with the proper engines.

2011 World Champion - Poll

Gollob/Holta I'm looking forward to see how the guys are doing after the winter when league racing kicks in full-time, and of course the Grand Prix series starts. -

I haven't seen what most riders have done in winter, so it's just an oppinion based on last year's performance, and some hopes of my own. To see Holta crownned world champion would have been great! However, that might be a longshot, but based on his form last season, I think he could get a medal this season. Gollob will be keen to keep his crown. Crump will be eager to get it. Has Emil become less kamikaze? Will Pedersen regain his form? Will Kolodziej mount up to people's expectations? Could any of the swedes step up? Ahhh! I'm getting all worked up, and it's still two months left! Thank Lemmy for YouTube, SpeedwayOnDisc, beer and hard rock. -
She fell off the grid a couple of years ago, but I remember her still from longtrack racing: Nynke DeJong And I remember a Norwegian girl aswell: Stina Børufsen

Just saw the Billy Hamill Academy on YouTube, and must say it's an amazing project. Without recruits, the sport dies out. Cheers for Hamill and his team. -
Nominations 2011
mothorsen replied to ladyluck's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Hard to say. It'll bee interesting to see after the winter break, but for now I'd say maybe Bjerre, Harris or Holder out and Sayfudinof and Kolodziej in? And Gollob for world champ? -

Yes indeed, especially if he is now taking it up a notch, riding in Allsvenskan. -
Nominations 2011
mothorsen replied to ladyluck's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Allright. Joonas Kylmäkorpi is longtrack world champion, and Finland has no one in SGP. Norway, Germany, Romania, Lituania, Holland, Ukraine and Italy, to name a few, are left out. USA and Great Britain has only got one each. Russia, Australia and Denmark two, Sweden three and Poland four. Andreas Johnson didn't only win the last round, he also finished higher than Hans Andersen, aswell as finishing higher in both Sweden and Poland, while Kolodziej has proved himself in both GP rounds he has been in this year, aswell as riding league speedway like a hellhound. No, it's not unfair to have "only" two Danes in the mix, and if Andersen still has it in him, he'll sit one out, and come back the next year. To nominate based on nationality is just plain wrong. Hehehe. This is the first post in the nomination-thread saying this. In the WC-threads it's an ongoing fight, but when it comes to nominations, he's always Polish I don't care... You ride for Poland, Holta, and we'll cheer you on regardless. Greatest speedway rider ever to come out of Norway. -
Nominations 2011
mothorsen replied to ladyluck's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
This is why a GP is more fair opposed to a one-off meeting. The world's greatest rider can also have an engine failure, as Golob did this year. Nominations aswell, but not at the expense of the QR. Sayfudinof clearly has something to do in the GP's, but due to injury, has not been able to eiter qualify or make top eight, and most people wants to see Kolodziej next year, although he didn't qualify. But wild cards should be handed out based on merit only. -
Ullevi is a tad big arena, if that's what you're getting at, and the venue should fit the crowd, but all in Poland? Naaah...

Tai Woffinden
mothorsen replied to lucifer sam's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
And so what? He should qualify either as a top three in the qualifiers or deserving a pick showing some awesome racing in leagues and as an event-wildcard. It's not easy to get in, neither should it be. It's the World Championship. -

mothorsen replied to lucifer sam's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
I agree. Let the best riders through, and the likes of Woffinden, THJ and Dennis Andersson, all promising speedway world stars, can sit out untill they show they've got what it takes. -

Taking picks based on nationality is, was and always will be bollocks. To have a mediocre rider in the mix, while a far better sits on the fence is just wrong. And basing it on nationality, should't Germany, Finland, Italy or the Ukranie get one in? Not good enough? well I can think of one ridre proving lack of skill this year, but is up for a wild card based on nationality. Let the best riders compete, regardless of nationality.
