TMW replied to djp45's topic in Speedway Testimonials & Individual and Shared Events
In response to trecharous and dangerous. I said it was muddy. I wore trainers footwear conducive with slippery surfaces I said I didnt feel like Iwas going to slip. To add to that I didnt see anybody else slipping all over the place either. -

Somebody has got to come out in Leicesters defence and that is obviously me.....You are clearly a coventry fan who very nearly lost your team this winter and after a maelstome of FB groups Radio interviews and campaigning (this may have helped who knows) got it back. I have taken the 'sad git' approach and checked back on the updates on the fanatstic racing you get at Brandon and I'm affraid the texter seems to have missed off all the great passes and 'on the line winning you get there'. and if time was available and could be bothered I would find it pretty similar at other tracks. I am sorry you feel you can't bring yourself to come but I am getting a little tired of the hatchet job on Leicester Speedway week after week. No fans shouldn't just be greatful for anything at any price just because it is back but some people could do with looking at their own back yard before they criticise other people's. Maybe the price is a little high (a couple of quid I throw that away in excess weekly shopping) but the stadium is in it's first season and some money does have to be recouped. When increments and so on come round next year and the year after the price will reflect the improvement in finances at the club.I believe the price for the 4's is set by the BSPA as is the program. I was dissapointed with the call off and I shall be going to the re-run if I am not busy with a previous engagement. Nobody denies that there are teething issues and the banks can get a little muddy in the rain as for tretarous and dangerous conditions I didn't feel like slipping once. Sorry I could have replied to any number of posts on here but selected yours. -
Danny Stoneman Returns To The Heathens
TMW replied to 21st century heathen's topic in National League Speedway
Wow this is an all out offensive for 2nd half racing. Richardson, Johnson, Blackbird, Hill, Chessell, Hopewood to name a few have all ridden 2nd halves in the ML this year. Aswell as your very own Portwood. The lads put themselves under a lot of pressure in the NL, rightly so, I think the key is the lads can enjoy the riding and not feel under pressure and prove to themselves more than anybody else what they can do. Some may say it's expensive for the riders but if it leads to addtional performance and more points money then it is an investment in my opinion. The support that lads are getting from the crowds is great aswell. The ones I have attended have had many supporters stay behind to support them and I am sure the lads are greatful for that. Really pleased for Danny Stoneman Just a word about Adam . He was picked up by Mildenhall and dropped then picked up by Dudley and dropped is this a good idea will his confidence be taking a knocking Ummmmm I wonder. -
It's my opinion it's not up to the teams to run suporters clubs, as I said before they have a big enough job maintaining ageing stadiums and tracks on a shoe string, it is up to the supporters themselves to get together and promote their sport in their local towns and cities. There is always an implication, on here particularly, that the promoters have some kind of magic wand that will bring the crowds flocking back yes the teams need to have a good communication channel between team and supporters but if the supporters don't want their sport to die out then get out there and promote it. Which is, I imagine how Dudley and Leicester have kept the dream alive for so long. To be honest because the sport is flagging the home grown riders are to not many young boys going to speedway meetings saying that is what I want to do when I grow up.
-
London is a very diffierent kettle of fish but.............. You could argue your points for any industrial town really. I think the reason Dudley works is because it is actively promoted they have good links with local media and press (maybe the Nigel Pearson factor)they have a thriving supporters club and the promotion appear to have good communication lines with the supporters. All this takes time and a lot of good will. I am certainly not saying the other promotions are not doing what they can to promote their team, often they have all on to get the stadium up to standard for meetings and I have already stated that promoters cant do right for doing wrong but that is what I see Dudley's success as. Add to this the fact that the Dudley supporters dont support the NL they support Dudley speedway but that is all they can hope for right now as a homeless team and I'm sure they all live in hope that Dudley one day will go EL and i'm pretty sure the press releases when Dudley first returned made it clear Dudley Would eventually become Cradley when all those boxes were ticked.
-
On that note would it have been better for all the 'home' meetings to have been run at Lakeside?. However I do agree with the rest of the posters on here good on them for giving it a go it's just a shame they couldnt have given it a little longer
-
See the newley crowned under 19's champion in action at Loomer Road tomorrow. Hopefully the Colts will rise to the challenge I think the lower orders are going to be the difference in this meeting lets hope they can all pull it together at the same time.
-
Thank you for that nice when people agree...It not so much the riders as they all move round anyway. I don't know much about the Hawks but would Hackney fans see Rye House as a Home would there have been a element of Hackney support which may not have bothered because they couldnt conceivably consider Rye House as a home track or vice verse and if you can only bring yourself to support half of the home meetings then whats the point. It will be interesting to see what the result of the Scunthorpe/Sheffield experiment brings but these are possibly not like for like as Sheffield are running double headers.
-
I think that is quite sad really. These things need to be nurtured. I believe that the Hawks have had 3 meetings at LS according to the fixtures surely that can't be enough to gauge the success of a project. This is one of the problems with NL racing if there is one thing I have learnerd about speedway supporters is that they are creatures of habit a habit needs to be developed habits also need to be broken and this constant 'will we wont we' attitude of the teams is not helping build support. Why would somebody lend their support to a team that may or may not be there next year why would you develop a habit that you are going to have to break in 6 months time and speedway supporters have their hearts broken more than most with the yo yo leagues. abd because of this there is also a culture developing of almost blackmail(not meaning to cause offense to anybody) 'If you don't support the club then we will close it down' not sure that is the best business strategy either. NL clubs need to commit to the cause. I don't say this as an 'armchair promoter' promoters have an intensely difficult job but the first thing surely is committment to the people that support your club. Whoever have supported till now may drift now as the project would appear to be going nowhere. There is such a thing as speculate to accumulate. I know it is quite easy ti sit and type the words when you are not loosing shed loads of money but isnt that the first rule of business?.

You are right in part...Howarth was wiped out at Wolverhampton and Byron was wiped out at Belle Vue I think it is time to put this thread to bed now and move on

Criticism -YES complete hatchett job - NO. The track was more than rideable as Perry proved in heat 3 by riding a brilliant race reeling in his oponenets slowly and surely over 4 laps. Now all riders have been given the all clear, thank goodness. The fact of the matter is the heathens were gating terribly and their own fans have flagged this up before, in previous meetings, leaving themselves a lot to do during the 4 laps. When the track would have been at it's worst, I imagine, Heat 1 Kyle Howarth showed everybody how to ride a grippy track. Armstrong was in Heat 1, showing a drop in form recently, also highlighted by Dudley fans on this forum. If the track was so dangerous and lives were at stake why didnt he refuse to ride the rest of the meeting why would he leave it till Heat 7. He as the anouncer said knows the track like the back of his hand a man of his experince should have known how that track was going to perform for the rest of the meeting. The Heathens came up in the KO Cup and caught the Colts a little bit non compus mentus and I believe they thought they would come and do it again securing all 4 points only this time found a completely differnt team and struggled to cope. Well done to Brendan, Adam and Darryl who saw a tricky track and thought Eyup an opportunity for experince here with nothing to loose and everthing to gain.

From theKings Lynn thread Courtesy of Screamer long night here tonight. Exclusions, slide offs & crashes. Riders struggling to turn their bikes as the track os way way way to grippy for this level of racing. Very fortunate to not have serious injuries at thru moment. We're only on heat 4 Seems maybe there needs to be a rethink of the track conditions for NL meetings but shouldnt all riders master all kinds of tracks. Hope the injured riders are good to go asap. A lot has been made of the Dudley boys going to Sweden what kind of tracks do they prepare there are the boys going to be hampered because they only ride one sort of track in the UK

From the BSPA Website; KYLE Howarth will lead Belle Vue Colts on a revenge mission when they face National League title rivals Dudley at Kirkmanshulme Lane tomorrow (Wednesday) night (8 0). The local lad from Ashton was recovering from a collarbone injury and missed the home Knockout Cup defeat by the Black Country side. The Colts paid a high price for Howarths absence as they collected only two points from his programmed rides and he is top of the averages under the new July averages after hitting the ten-point mark. He rides at No 1 with Adam McKinna and captain Byron Bekker forming a new partnership in a shuffled line-up. Graham Goodwin, the Colts joint manager, said: This is going to be our biggest match of the season. We want revenge for the cup defeat and we can't afford to slip up at home because things are getting very tight at the top of the table. Hackney leapfrogged both us and Dudley to go top due to a big home win on Friday and then taking maximum points at Buxton on Sunday. It is a big bonus to have Kyle back. We put too much pressure on ourselves last time and that caused us to throw away silly points with falls and mistakes. This time we want to get back to our usual style of riding with a smile and enjoying our racing, while still giving 100 per cent. Dudley have made two changes since their cup visit, with Richard Franklin and Danny Stoneman dropping out of the side to be replaced by Brendan Johnson and Adam Portwood. Franklin has been told to rest for at least a month after aggravating a knee injury so Dudley have snapped up Johnson, who has just been released from the Isle of Wight. Portwood, 16, has been released by Mildenhall to make way for Cameron Heeps. Belle Vue Colts: 1 K Howarth average 10.00, 2 K Mason 4.72, 3 A McKinna 6.45, 4 B Bekker © 7.14, 5 J Garrity 8.11, 6 C Widman 3.00, 7 S Richardson 4.48. Dudley Heathens: 1 J Armstrong © 8.61, 2 D Ritchings 4.59, 3 T Perry 5.53, 4 A Morris 8.00, 5 K Newman 8.13, 6 A Portwood 3.00, 7 B Johnson 4.31.

I think this should go in Amatuer section but; Scunthorpe stags go on the Scunthorpe website. Sheffield Cubs go on the Sheffield site. Other teams. Not sure where they are posted are; Team events Halifax Dukes - Exeter Falcons - Birmingham Bulls - Tamworth Saxons - Team Viking and very soon MK Knights Individual Events Stars of the future/ tomorrow Coventry/Sheffield. To my knowledge. Where would you like to stop as there is also STR Dragons Sittingborne and Summer championships Newport Stoke & Scunthorpe. again to my knowledge. You may get Fixture/ scores/ results from the Amatuer section. For Team Viking you want Sarah & Kelvin Lapworth. Can somebody pick up the batton from here please as I'm sure there is more.

Ive not seen on here "The referee was a man and couldn't even get the finishers right" but I take your point
-
Thats it when all else fails it's got to be the womens fault. Plenty of male referees get it wrong you know
-
Really pleased for Brendan. Come on Brendan lad you sho em. Also pleased for Adam although I do fear that if he doesnt hit max scoring points pretty sharpish, with out nearly killing himself in the name of entertainment, he will probably join JCookies list of desperados. Why dont people just give the lads a chance.
-
No need for any kind of visit to the medicin man that was exactly the tonic I needed
-
Who replaces Brendan at the IOW then?
-
Excuse me with all due respect Scunny have shown what a bit of support and faith can show 3 PL riders that are not doing too bad. Thank you for Mildenhall Speedway for doing it's bit for the Amateur Scene: From the BSPA Amateur speedway might conjure up images of wobbling beginners but, whilst they are always very welcome, some very talented riders take part. No more so than in the Open Class which is a great place for young riders to continue learning their craft whilst showcasing their talent. The latest rider to impress was 15-year old Cameron Heeps from Western Australia who pipped Scunthorpe Scorpions’ asset Luke Chessell to victory in last weekend’s meeting. The pair defeated each other once in qualifying whilst Chessell led the final for a lap before Heeps used the dirt line to pass on the outside and claim victory. Former Mildenhall Fen Tiger Shane Henry was 3rd whilst current Fen Tiger, Adam Portwood, also made the A Final. Heeps follows in the footsteps of Linus Sundström (Sweden), Jen Trasborg, Patrick Bjerregaard, Peter Juul Larsen (twice), Mark Randrup, Claes Nedermark (all Denmark), Nick Morris and Robert Branford (both Australia) as the tenth overseas winner of a Scunthorpe amateur meeting whilst a look at the list of the British winners confirms the pedigree required to win one of these events.

I think you need to leave the lad alone now cos the pressure on him is going to be inmense. Dont worry Adam your time will come keep at it

There is a crazy concept in this contry of compulsory education called homeschooling and that would appear to be a whole new discussion.....
