  1. I think I caught the name as Spinka or similar , but have to agree it certainly was the wrong call. But these thing even themselves out , McGowans was not the most consistant call either.
  2. great meeting and certainly the best team won , many congratulations to Hans , Jan and the whole team.
  3. I think this thread is a "misprint " surely it should be well done Denmark
  4. I thought this was the Hans thread , your description sums up Nicholls to a tee.
  5. well I think you can be trusted to know what you are talking about Robyn , I believe you
  6. Arhh thanks , rabbit , I wasnt sure if it had been.
  7. I know of no reason why anyone could not watch the meeting on TV and still make posts on this forum
  8. I expect it will be announced officially very soon , no need to discuss
  9. Right on Badge , I think the vast majority of poster on this and our forum know the real score
  10. Thanx General , as you might guess my puter is misbehaving , so having difficulty follow this thread. The thing that made me smile the most tonight was when Chris was asked could England (for some obscure reason now called something else) go on to win the world cup. You could tell what he really thought!!! Him appart the commentry team was so biased I cringed
  11. hard riding from both Nicholls and Andersen , but a great race which Nicholls deservable won. Its just a pity that Nicholls cant control his childish behaviour. If he was so able Im sure hed be winning GPs and much more than he has so far. As captain of England I thought it was disgraceful when he was offered the hand from Hans and he just pushed it away. Alot of it goes back to the fact that Nicholls was unable to deal with the fact that Hans was more popular at Ipswich than Nicholls ever was. Hans behaved impecably as always. Dropped just the one point in that race and has a great chance of leading Denmark to glory in the final on Saturday.
  12. Taken from Ipswich East Anglian Daily Times 16 May 1952. "Arthur Pilgrim , landlord of The Red Loin , Chelmsford, Essex signed for Ipswich Speedway last week. Pilgrim returned the good time of 77 seconds on a slick track." There is a photo of him with Ipswich manager Artur Franklyn. 12.5.1952 .. same paper. "Arthur Pilgrim, last seasons captain of Cardiff, at one time raced in a Bowler Hat. Pilgrim a native of East Ham , first took up Speedway with Dagenham. He has also raced for Birmingham,Crystal palace, Sheffield,West Ham , Exeter and Cardiff before signing for Ipswich. In 1947 he went to Chelmsford and started a garage businessin Viaduct Rd.Then moved to larger premises in Victoria Rd. He runs a fleet of radio controlled taxis and took the licence of the Red Lion 18 months ago. 16.6.52. "Pilgrim scores well on Exeter track. He top scored for Ipswich (9 pts) as Exeter beat Ipswich 54-30." Hope this is of some help. I have all the speedway reports on Ipswich from that era but do not have time to post them all.
  13. Cant ever remember Norris having much to be cheered for. If the Standing ovation Hans got after the Belle Vue match is anything to go by, it may be necessary for the club to be reported to the noise abatement society, after this Thursdays reception...
  14. cant believe some of the Zenophobic nonsence that some people post on here, everyone has , and is entiltled to their own opinion. About time the few diehard biggots got over it, we lost !
  15. I would have loved to see you do it Thought myself he held of the challenge from Crump brilliantly, dont think gate one was the favoured gate. I loved the look of doom on Haverlocks face... really made my night. Thats the second time in 3 days hes shown Crump the way home. What a star and at the moment a Witch !
  16. I know Sue to be an England supporter, she supports all England riders whatever. She also has the common sence and knowledge to know when you loose you dont harp on and on about it being everybodies fault but yours.
  17. Well I certainly hope no other English team wants Hans next season. If that proves to be the case we may have a chance of hanging on to him. Tonight ,in the words of Baroness Kesteven, " Rejoice , Just rejoise.. "
  18. Anyone remember, or has any info on "shotgun donald" who sold photos badges etc around 1960. He wandered round the ground with an ice cream type box hung around his neck. I still have many of the photos I bought from him at 6d each, plus a few of the badges. Wonder if hes still about ?
  19. Wondered how long it would take for someone to start the sour grapes. no one cheated, the Swedes won because the scored the most points. Thanks for taking the trouble to post Mr Middleditch and congratulations to all those involved with the England team for a stirling effort.
  20. I agree , Sue.... bit of a strom in a teacup. Don't forget the Adopt a Witch at half time when we hope to give Daniel another donation. I think Kevin wants us to meet up at pitgate just after heat 8.
  21. If anyone thinks I'm going to miss my Thursday night out at Ipswich because of this incident they have another think coming. Hans Andersen was ever only at Foxhall for one season. There is little or no possibility of him being replaced for the rest of this one. As has already been stated there are no grade 4 riders available. I have never subscribed the the "ifs and buts" or "shouda, wouda" school of thought. The plain fact is England did not score enough points before the last heat to ensure that this type of incident did'nt arise. If Andersen helped his Swedish team mate then it may have been morally wrong but the ref. was English and had it been against the rules he needed to take action. Had he helped his English team mate would anyone be complaining. Well done Sweden and well battled England.
  22. Not in my experience Karl. But much better than on Eastbourne's "toy track"...........
  23. Top notch.. even had to tell her in doors to shut up she got so carried away ! She was supporting Crump and co. Bloody annoying advert slot after heat 16, made it hard to follow with heat 17 at tapes by the time coverage resumed. Richie Benaud, Dame Edna, Rolf Harris, Niel Street, Germaine Greer, Men without hats, Paul Hogan, The Kangaroo's,.......... your boys etc etc. Tomasz... and the Poles... well done.
  24. They certainy rode round in exhibitions befor the main match around that time. Dont think they raced though. Leigh being the older of the two normally lead the way followed by Scott.
