  1. It's 'so black and white' but you then say it 'seemed' to be the starting gate that was the issue, not factual then? This thread has revealed things that most of us would not have been aware of yet you complain that it's still going, stop contributing to it if you want it to end. It's a decent thread imo because in the main it hasn't descended into snide remarks and backbiting. Just sayin'
  2. Thanks for the reply, Olsen has prepared a few dodgy tracks in these stadia, doesn't he normally have a week to get Cardiff track laid? Probably like most on here I know a good few who have turned their back on this sport over recent years, there will be a good few more after this fiasco.
  3. Know what you mean about Len Silver but maybe it's down to the materials he has to work with these days rather than his own failings, then again we do still see well prepared tracks here and there, is that because they spend more money on their material?
  4. I can feel your pain, what a journey you made to end up being treated with such contempt, I would be livid if I'd travelled a couple of hundred miles never mind over 4,000. As you say they need to understand they are in the entertainment business and without fans they have no jobs, the sooner the sport is taken by the scruff of the neck and brought into line the better. It's rotten from the top down.
  5. They become tv pundits and steal a living that way instead, jobs for the boys. I think the covered seats are more to do with the fact that they can't sell them because they don't offer a view of the track due the the height of the air-fence, could be wrong though. Also I thought the dirt deflectors stop the shale flying up, or have they stopped using them now?
  6. How is that relevant? The poster who complained about the flag was clearly in attendance, you rubbished his comment because it didn't make your personal radar. Give it a rest pal, you are just making yourself look stupid with your comments.
  7. No minor detail if you'd shelled out like he/she did to attend the meeting,
  8. I heard today that wizwig is back, here's hoping
  9. Thanks for that, I've recently had same problem but got round it by right clicking on the 'jigsaw shaped' message telling me silverlight needs your permission to run and selecting the option to run it, only problem being is that I have to do it every time I log in to view. I'll try what you suggest and hopefully it will be sorted.
  10. Great post, we share plenty of memories from that era, although you clearly retain more details of the actual results than I'm able to. My most vivid recollection of Declan Eccles were the grey overalls he always seemed to wear, made him seem a no nonsense type of rider, great to watch when in full flight. Wasn't Glen Hornby another of Bamforth's fledglings, I seem to remember he also went out on a limb for Martin Scarisbrick, neither of the pair ever fulfilled their supposed potential. We sat 3rd bend also, easily the best place to view racing @ Hyde Road, PC & Mort had so many different lines round that pit bend, almost impossible for any rider to outdo them. Was the little souvenir kiosk still there, just inside the Redgate Lane entrance? Bought my first Soren Sjosten rosette from there. Going in the pits after the meeting was always a great end to the evening, Larry Ross always had his bikes in a big estate car, Citroen I think. See, you remember results, I just retain the trivia, still great memories though..
  11. No need for the rubbishing comments, each to their own and all that. The total points stuff is for the studio analysis section as far as I'm concerned, if Nigel alludes to it the odd time fair enough but he's screaming about it as the riders are crossing the line, all wrong for me..
  12. Really? I don't hear Martin Tyler spouting on about league points every time a goal is scored, I don't hear Cornelius Lysaght harping on about A P McCoy's lead in the race for champion jockey after every race.. Nigel has been relaying total GP points for weeks now after every race featuring Tai or Greg, it's tiresome imo.
  13. Not quite the same, the Ryder cup is run over 3 days, this is months. Fair enough it it were the last meeting and the title could be decided but Nige does it every other week.
  14. He does it all the time, does my head in with it.
  15. Definitely making me think of Hyde Road, fantastic track, he who dares wins, lovin it' I've enjoyed the GP this year but they need to look at where they hold the rounds next year, I don't care what country they race in as long as they are on good tracks like this one.
  16. Speedway riders, journalists, other forum members, you're having a pop at everyone this week aren't you.. What's up, got no man around to nag at? I like the fact that Philip Rising posts on here, he gives a different interesting perspective to most threads on current affairs, if it helps him sell a few more magazines then fair play.
  17. Didn't know that, he was quite diminutive but a little battler as I recall.
  18. Big difference between booting a toolbox/table and squaring up to a woman, a woman who is part of your own crew. You're a woman aren't you, surely you must have felt for her when he did that, it was clear that she felt the need to recoil, not nice at all.
  19. Some great posts in this thread, good memories evoked while reading it. I'm not sure what year I started going with my old man but I was his ticket out on a Saturday night so it was probably around 67/8. My earliest memories are of Soren Sjosten, used to love watching him ride, the fact that he could hardly touch the ground with his feet gave me the impression he was just a youngster like me, at least until I saw him in the pits after a meeting. Like Hells Granny I think my most revisited memory is the Leicester match when it all kicked off on the track, Alan Cowland had stuffed Wilkie on the pit bend, he was never going to get away with that, mayhem ensued. I don't recall Anthony Jones but I do remember some of the 2nd halfers, the Meridiths, Paul Callaghan (his mum had a pub in Mersey Square, the Touchstone I think), Taffy Owen, Steve Waplington. I can remember Lee Edwards poodling round on his little bike for a good few years.. used to go to the training schools as well, I wonder what Ingy is doing these days, he loved having a spin. For me the Reading Cup Final 2nd leg was the best, most exciting occasion I experienced, never seen a race like that run off since, it was pure magic, the celebrations at the end will live with me forever, over 40 years on and I can picture it now, PC the legend. The BLRC was a magical night, every top league club represented both on and off the track, the Scots came in big numbers whether they had a rider to cheer or not, truly great memories, I too feel privileged to have attended Hyde Road on all those big nights. I hope to attend the new place when it's open but I doubt I'll become a regular, love to proved wrong though.
  20. He was a hair's breadth from giving that woman a dig, that's the lasting impression I have from his antics on Saturday. I've no problem with him booting inanimate objects round the pits, it makes for good tv, I don't even have a problem with 2 riders exchanging blows if they're both up for it. The expression on his face as he squared up to her was there for all to see what he is in real life, a bully. They all know the cameras are there, he lost the plot momentarily and showed his true colours, went down in my estimation. I'll still look forward to seeing him ride, there's very rarely a dull moment when he's around, just wish he hadn't done that..
