Swc Final 2015
nw42 replied to racers and royals's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Exactly, there was no farce tonight, it just didn't happen due to the weather. Much prefer that than them try and rip everyone off by staging half a meeting, although who knows what tomorrow may bring... -
Cheers Nige....

Who Was Best, Louis Senior Or Louis Junior?
nw42 replied to Terry's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Ok well I thought garbage was harsh because it's all down to opinions and he/she is entitled to theirs, anyway you're right the 70's was an era blessed with many good riders but to mention Chris Pusey or Reg Wilson alongside the likes of Woffinden is quite a leap, although Reg spent most of his career @ Owlerton I would class both these riders as journeymen types. Martin Ashby was a good rider but he never progressed from good, pretty much the same goes for Terry Betts. -

Garbage is a bit harsh but I have to agree that John was never one I'd class as a consistent gater, of that top British group back in the early mid 70's I would say Simmo, Jessup and Davies were the gaters, Louis, PC, Mort etc were the racers. I saw him ride many times but I honestly can't remember if Ray Wilson could trap well on a regular basis, anyone? -

Closely matched I'd say the Morans, not many better sights than Kelly & Shawn team riding, great memories. I'd also say Alan had the edge over Andy Gahame, very tough rider. Chris & Dave Morton were quite similar in style but Chris takes the honours. It's great how these type of threads open up and start to evoke snatched memories of riders you thought you'd forgotten about. What about the Karlsson/Max brothers, both had great careers and still going, I always used to prefer watching Michael for excitement but Peter has my full admiration for the way he has kept himself fit and competitive, great servant to British speedway and one of those riders you would always want in your team. -

Ken & Neil Middleditch had fairly similar careers, admittedly not nearly as successful as the Louis clan though. -
Bang on the money. Nobody will question his talent, he's great to watch. Most sports have their bad boys and quite often they are among the most naturally gifted in their chosen field, bad boys can be good for any sport but they generally have an attractive side to their personality, most fans forgive their transgressions because they love seeing them perform. Unfortunately Darcy Ward hasn't yet really shown us that side of himself, at least I've not seen it whenever he is interviewed. I wasn't too keen on Holder when he first started over here, I liked watching his all action style of riding but to me he came across as really arrogant, I've long since changed my stance on that one, Chris Holder almost always interviews well. Didn't Holder spend a lot of time around Greg Hancock at some point, I'm sure I recall that being the case, wintering maybe? Either way he changed for the better, maybe Ward will get similar guidance and grow up, I hope so.

I've had a look around but can't find it anywhere. I'm sure others will fill in the blanks but from memory he was spoon fed the lines by Nigel but completely passed on the opportunity to express a bit of contrition. Nigel asked him if he felt this was last chance saloon for him, his reply was 'no not really' or similar. In the end it seemed Nigel had given up trying to and just said something along the lines of 'so you're sorry for your past behaviour and are keen to get on with your racing', I think Ward replied in the affirmative. I suppose Philip Rising knows Ward a good bit better than most of us, so maybe the way he came across (surly) is just the way he is but it was certainly an underwhelming interview.

Well she has my full admiration for giving it a go, hope she gets some rides while she's over here, no pun intended. Good luck to her. -

That sun looks a bit bright. -
Spot on. He is great to watch but it's as though he's from another era, so reminiscent of when Havvy came on the scene along with Joe Screen, Stoney et al, proper rum northern lads with no fear. Gary will no doubt be cutting him loads of slack because he's been there himself and doesn't want to clip his wings, trouble is speedway has moved on and riders have to be 100% focused if they want to be successful. Jason's antics on Monday cost Coventry any chance of getting league points, despite the weather. I hope he does calm down because I love watching riders like him when they are on song, in fact both of them need to watch the recording of Monday's meeting a good few times, no fast forwarding, just watch what most of us saw and have a think about how it all came across, not pretty at all.

I was thinking that while watching last night, almost posted a comment on it but didn't want to seem petty, he always rants on about ht10 when meetings are run in inclement weather conditions. I think Chris Louis was the first to mention it last night, that's how much Pearson & Tatum were avoiding the subject. Either you are fishing or you are blind, it was clear he was under orders not to go out for ht10.
-
Your comment says it all about what is wrong with speedway, well done.
-
It's likely that he was ordered not to go out, he's never been one to shy away from any conditions. Why oh why do we all stick with this sport, I know numbers are dwindling and I'm sat here in the warm comfort of home but I have followed this sport since childhood, maybe it's time to give it the elbow, until Wednesday at least.
-
Well whatever the outcome fair play to them for getting the meeting started so quickly, here's hoping they get a break with the weather. Great pass by Holder, got his mojo back by the looks of it.

Greg Hancock How Good.?

I'd go for the Danish demolition because the 4 Gregs would still be around to watch another day, NP would be no more. -

It's possibly my comment in another thread you are referring to, it was meant as a defence of Greg in response to some fool having a dig at him. I used the example of Ivan because is at the very top table in terms of the history of the sport, yet like you I never felt the thrill when watching him ride, he was such a perfectionist and was seldom beaten from the gate. Greg displays the same traits in terms of his dedication to succeeding but he also possesses that Californian charisma that most of us speedway followers have grown to love since the mid 70's. When Greg was paired up with Billy H they produced plenty of exciting racing and were great to watch in full flight, just think how long it is since we saw those 2 blasting round Brandon, yet Greg is still doing the business, fair play to him. I hope he can keep injury free and enjoy his riding, he's a good World Champion and seems a thoroughly decent bloke. -
The Trouble With Speedway Is, Too Many Things Can Go Wrong

Well I think in Kings Lynn's case it could be the change of race night, I'm sure it never used to happen on a Saturday. -

So was Ivan Mauger but he's still considered right up there amongst the greats of the sport. I love to watch exciting riders but I wouldn't knock riders like Greg for being steady and successful. -

Why in Philip's defence, has he bought himself a tractor? He gets a lot of flack but I don't recall anyone blaming him for track prep. -

Doesn't really matter though does it, he's the reigning World Champion, can't get much better than that. Been an entertaining meeting but let's face it after the last 2 it didn't have to be much to show an improvement. Here's hoping Tai can keep forging ahead in the points race by winning the final.
