  1. You're right, I really should make more effort, I know I'd enjoy it, I love the speed that they generate round there, it's exhilarating from the back straight. I'm only in Northwich, easy to get there really, I think I've become institutionalised, got too comfy, used to love getting wrapped up for Autumn meetings, BLRC at Hyde Road was always mid/late October.
  2. I was as near to making the effort and going tonight as I have been for a long time, the last time I went I bumped into Mort, he was still in charge but made time for a little chat. Who knows, maybe next season I'll actually drag myself out of the door on a few Monday evenings, it's a great track to watch racing and it's less than 20miles away, I could even use the train and relax with a beer or 3.
  3. Same here, not read a book for a few years now, probably Mort's book was the last one I enjoyed, really looking forward to this one, will be listening out for the thud as it lands on the mat.
  4. It's good to have speedway to watch this week but this track is disappointing, used to be decent many years ago but definitely gone down the nick now. Roll on tomorrow night for hopefully some decent racing. Or maybe this will get better......
  5. Unfortunate for Danny but if the tide's in, home track knowledge letting him down.
  6. Totally agree with this, although I only ordered mine a couple of weeks ago I'm slightly put off by the fact that @TonyMac says in his post, 'should be received by the end of October'. Doesn't sound too convincing. Having said that I'm really looking forward to reading the book.
  7. Wow, you've got it bad mate, it's over, done with, enjoy it for what it was, a great final on 2 of the fastest tracks you could wish for in this country, yes the gate 3 fiasco was a joke but we still got plenty of good racing and the outcome was in the balance until the later stages. For me, it's been mentioned by others too, the reason you lost was, in the main, down to your golden boy Jack Holder not getting into the groove when it really counted, also to an extent Kyle Howarth, he can never be accused of not giving his all but on Thursday he just didn't click, maybe too tense. Just wondering, what with your name and all that, is this bitterness stemming from the fact you had your bend invaded on Thursday? Must've been awful, all that noise and jubilation.
  8. I thought the atmosphere came over ok, you could hear the fans every time an Aces rider pulled off a move, I was totally engrossed in it, only heard the same from the home crowd a couple of times though. It was one of those wish I was there nights, brilliant support from the travelling faithful, that sight and sound must have given the riders a lift, definitely worth a few points on the night, who knows if that's what inspired Tom Brennan to greater heights, I did wish I was there.
  9. I Can't but I know I've seen races awarded on occasion, never felt enraged about the way the points were awarded, would expect the wronged rider to be awarded the points he would have gained had his part in the manoeuvre been successful, the rider who was excluded obviously gets no points.
  10. Hope you're ok mate, I used to love reading your long posts about your trips to meetings. You seem to have a downer on it all now. I don't think it was set up for a Belle Vue win at all, it just worked out they had done just enough on Monday to get them over the line. Great couple of meetings, plenty of drama and decent racing on well prepared tracks considering the time of year.
  11. Same here, they've definitely got enough to pull it off but really can't afford any bad luck in terms of breakdowns etc. I'm expecting a cracker of a meeting and hoping for the right outcome, hope I'm not disappointed. Good luck to all those travelling over the Pennines, I used to love that drive over Woodhead on many Thursday evenings, always a good track to visit and plenty of close racing, the pits were accessible and you could really see what was going on in there.
  12. Good and fair post, I'm as keen as any fellow Aces supporters to see them finally break the hoodoo and lift the silverware but equally I want to see decent evening's racing, hopefully in the balance until the closing heats, obviously a Belle Vue aggregate victory would be so good to see. I know there's a couple who think we've already lost and I can see where they are coming from, years of disappointment at the final knockings take their toll. Keep the faith people.
  13. So you lost your big bet tonight, it happens, accept it and move on instead of being snide.
  14. Cheats is very harsh, no rules were broken. Obviously there's going to be a few moans and groans but the truth of it is we are all lucky to see Robert doing these meetings, he's earned every penny he's getting and put on a great show.
  15. It's long been a legitimate move, seen riders do it since the 70s, definitely a move used on big tracks, nothing wrong with it.
  16. Tactics, what tactics would that be? You think he deliberately stayed on his bike as it careered into the fence? Or you think he was fit and able to continue in the meeting? Actually, forget it, don't bother replying, you clown.
  17. I also thought that was the rule, ready to race before the clock counted down to zero, I've seen riders excluded when on the track on their way round to the starting gate.
