  1. My cheekier take on them: Peter made World Champion Les made World Runner-up Phil made the World Final Neil made the British Final Steve made the tea
  2. Or Vic, pre-war Southampton captain.
  3. Yes, part of the group of Poole Juniors that also included Middlo. Yeatesy at Poole but Ringwood is referenced https://scontent-lcy1-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.6435-9/92355133_1040778626315488_3927287347791527936_n.jpg?_nc_cat=101&ccb=1-5&_nc_sid=b9115d&_nc_ohc=SvU6gVg9g-AAX_jo5_j&_nc_ht=scontent-lcy1-1.xx&oh=a3e7245b49dd18d875d172ca9677dc4e&oe=61B20ECF Middlo https://scontent-lcy1-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.6435-9/92422220_1040778356315515_6531625455886270464_n.jpg?_nc_cat=111&ccb=1-5&_nc_sid=b9115d&_nc_ohc=Xgu_s_M59lAAX9YV345&_nc_ht=scontent-lcy1-1.xx&oh=b7a2470c884fb4bac0ee956ee3af41f7&oe=61B1E85F
  4. Edinburgh Marine Gardens. Side by side georeferenced maps viewer - Map images - National Library of Scotland (nls.uk) It's clear to see why it was so-named.
  5. It was speedway in the 1950's, initially for training but the Ringwood Turfs were members of the SAL in 1954/5. It was later used by Poole for training in the early 70's. The track you saw racing on was the 'mini longtrack' which was closed after a sidecar fatality in 1992.

  8. The music might have been terrible but the bikes sounded much better then.
  9. Report and results (written by a Yank I think due to use of "gotten" and "besting") Cossar Stars In Sidecar Triumph — Official Belle Vue Speedway (bellevue-speedway.com)
  10. Boston Barracuda-Braves. Who thought a double barrelled nickname was a good idea?
  11. That apostrophe in Shanes is superfluous. I've seen others do likewise and am curious as to why.
  12. Sad news indeed. His passion for the sport and Speedway Star never wavered. It feels like the end of an era. RIP Phillip.
  13. It's not always about cost. Berwick have covers but haven't used them recently due to having insufficient manpower to manoeuvre them.
  14. I've been to countless grasstracks, the first in 1972. I even competed in a few on my JAP in the 90's. Despite this, I never did and still don't get excited by the sidecars.
  15. I agree. I struggle to see who they appeal to. I see them more as light cars than motorbikes but my car racing fan mates think the opposite hence they fall between 2 stools.
  16. Made exiting easier for those of us who stayed on though. Made a difference with the crowd sizes back then of course.
