  1. Says the man stuck in the past. WTC? It's been called the SWC for over 10 years
  2. The Houston Astrodome track in the 1970's was nothing to do with him.
  3. It's the usual M W D L For Against with additions for match points gained depending on the size of the win/defeat e.g 3W is a win that gained 3 match points, 1L a loss that gained 1 etc
  4. Me 100%. Like others, I didn't feel he justified a place in the GP's originally. Now he looks more likely to become a multi-time World Champ. Compared to him, Darcy Ward seems to be going backwards or maybe treading water at best.
  5. How about the last race winner on a 2-valve upright? I think Paul Tyrer won races on a 2-valve Jawa when riding for Buxton in the early days of the BL3 or whatever it was called then. I remember him not being allowed to use it at Somerset because it didn't have a silencer.
  6. Same here. I invite a couple of first-timers around, lay on beer and curry and now feel ashamed at what's being served up on track.
  7. Fine for top riders but more of a hit for those further down the pecking order.
  8. Courtesy of Old Time Speedway on Facebook, here they are in the 1948 East Rand Eagles team. https://fbcdn-sphotos-a-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-frc3/t1.0-9/10255434_10203967771174932_2729919984018290004_n.jpg
  9. The five Serrurier brothers - Harry, Doug, Bob, Alan and Jack rode together for several South African league teams.
  10. Ward's rattled because he's realized he isn't as good as he thought he was.

Sounds like you may have a Rotrax JAP but without seeing it that's only a guess. Regarding oil, it won't have wet sumped because it doesn't have a sump! It uses the total loss principle where the oil drops out of the bottom of the engine after being used. A bike in storage would typically have no oil in the tank. Hope that makes some sense and is of help to you.
  12. Immigration is permanent and a different argument altogether. This is about temporary working visas.
  13. Exeter for me too. The first time I ever stood on the third bend I was convinced the riders wouldn't turn and would end up on the terracing. Oh, and also for the novelty of a dog track *inside* the speedway track.
  14. So Barry Hearn has spun this by reducing the spin. I don't know if I'm dizzy or not now!
  15. The point he was making was that those goals do not count for double *at the moment they are scored*, which they would have to to make them equivalent to the double points ride.
  16. Do you know if training tracks *at league clubs* e.g Scunny need air fences?
  17. Haven't you got one yet? Speedway fans are *so* behind the times! ;-)
  18. He was born in England and represents GB. Regardless of where he was brought up that makes him British enough for me.
  19. My abiding memory of Per was in a double header at Reading in, I think, 1992. This was a meeting of 2 cup finals - v Poole in the BSPA VCup and Bradford in the KO Cup respectively. As an infrequent visitor to Poole I had not seen Per at Wimborne Road so my only experience of him was the TV coverage of his World Final triumph. Suffice to say, I walked away from Smallmead that night in no doubt as to his ability. Per had 9 rides, didn't drop a point and looked so effortless in everything he did. Given what transpired later, I'm so glad I got to see him in action.
  20. Rob Grant (Berwick) always seemed to dwarf his bike.
  21. A bit more info here http://www.speedwayresearcher.org.uk/docs/staines/1938.pdf
  22. It is now but do you recall when it was over 6 laps in Heat 15? That was a fundamental change that I was pleased to see the back of.
