Which Rider Used To Travel The Furthest For Home Meetings?
Sotonian replied to steve roberts's topic in Years Gone By
Not quite so far but still worth mentioning Maury Mattingley - Southampton to Glasgow -
From Trials Guru website: Dave Gatenby, former Teeside Tigers speedway star and trials rider died suddenly as a result of a heart attack on Wednesday 1st June, 2016. He started his riding career in speedway before opening a motorcycle business as Dave Gatenby Motorcycles selling machines and accessories based at Yarm Road, Darlington, supporting many local competitors.

Arguably better than neighbours with all their faculties who would be better placed to complain.

Are you sure?. Aldershot weren't even running in 1956! -
Alec, Rob and Robbie Grant.

I didn't claim otherwise. Repayment mortgages were more popular by far back then though.

I would say more OAPs bought their houses before endowments were popular and aren't in this position. It's more likely that their offspring are though.

Is there another track in the world where you cannot view from bends 1 & 2? Given that's where most passing occurs these days it's seems an incredible decision. -
Why haven't they? Is it a perceived cost issue?

Agree 100%. Furthermore, they have reduced safety by causing accidents due to lengthening the bikes. How many times do we hear "he just caught him with his dirt deflector"?

I put 10 year old dope in my JAP, which hadn't been started for over 10 years and it burst into life at the first attempt. Based on this experience it'll be fine.

Somerset And The Confederate Flag

Really? I asked quite a few friends and family when this debate first arose and none of them made that association. Maybe in America but not suburban Britain. As for stupid and irrelevant nicknames, where would you draw the line? Witches ( occult)? Pirates (criminals)? Worst case scenario is we'd end up with all nicknames having to be selected from a PC-approved list of cuddly happy-clappy ones. Speedway is an extreme sport and nicknames are a good way of reflecting that. -
Something similar happened at Poole either late 70's or early 80's. I cannot remember whether the 'local rock band' played before the meeting or in the interval or both and also cannot recall the experiment being repeated.

21/9/60 at Poole exists, I have a copy in my collection. 40-32 to the Pirates. -
Two of the best tracks in the halcyon days of the British League were Belle Vue and Leicester. With this news, there is every chance of that being the case this coming season.

I'd go further and say neither a ban nor change of title was necessary. A sad day for the BSF.

Berwick and Plymouth would be a modern equivalent. Has anyone ridden for both of these teams? -

The commentators just gloss over an incident where Greg is involved. Why is he untouchable? -

Why isn't Masters banned from the rest of the meeting? Boycie was when he lumped Gollob.
