You can have a very safe track, but you cannot cover all eventualities. Each accident is usually a combination of circumstances which are always changing,so to allow for every possible scenario is impossible. All that can be done is try to make it as safe as possible and remember speedway is a dangerous sport and accidents happen and hope that the chain of events doesn't end like it did with Chris. Get well soon

Heres one for the old "uns amongst us.I live just outside Manchester and in the early 70"s I could go to a reasonably local track every day of the week. On monday it was Crewe(my favourite team ever)Tuesday was Ellsmere Port(boo)wednesday Bradord (i think) thursday was Sheffield, friday.see wednesday, saturday Belle Vue or Halifax, sunday was Rochdale. For the more intrepid among us there were trips to Hull & Stoke. No matter which track you went to you always saw a few cars with scarves and stickers and always got a wave or somnething else depending on the team. But all in good sport.I dont know how it worked in the midlands or London areas, were you able to do the same.Due to finances i am only able to go to a few meetings a year and honestly prefer premier and national league matches.Ah happy memories.!!
what happened that night was that belle Vue,who had been unbeaten at home for a few years but Leicester came visiting and held the lead going into heat 12.the Aces needed a heat advantage and Wilkinson tried to get round Cowland on the third bend and came off.The referee bravely adjudged Wilkinson at fault and that cost the Aces the win.Wilkinson blamed Cowland and that started the brawl. Some members of the crowd joined in and a punch up followed,i remember a spectator having a go at big Tom Leadbitter who had leathers and helmet, not very clever. The ref didn't run heat 13 and the lions won.The ri der that won it for the Lions was Graham Plant, talk about harm sacrum ,he frightened everybody at the track, probably even the Aces riders.Scored 11 from 4 rides I seem to recall. Ah great days, pretty local speedway every night of the week except Friday.
What a shame, always was a fantastic entertainer,of which there is a vast shortage in speedway today.Wish you every success in your futures careers, you will be sorely missed.
Just seen some football on the box, which was from Berwick, and it looks a nice tidy stadium, and the track looked quite good.never having visited Berwick speedway since the Robinson &Wyer era it has persuaded me to have a visit the next time I can arrange it.Well done to all.
Why all the furore about a certain Mr. Pedersen conceding a place in a race?.I recall a few years ago a certain Mr. Crump got a lot of grief for winning a race in the final, thereby allowing the Poles to play a joker and go on to win the meeting.Dammed if you do,dammed if you dont. Answer,as most people say, scrap the joker.
if the club were unaware of his intentions(unlikely i know) then the club should be allowed a facility because the rider has left the club in the lurch.the rider should also be discipled .if the club knew of his plans certainly not,as they should have arranged cover prior to him leaving.
