How Would You Improve Presentation?
longlivefrankie replied to oldtimer's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
each rider should have his own theme song (like the darts)an uptempo song a decent DJ would know what songs to pay at a motorsport event IMO thats the job (i did it for a while) and you do your research & pick the songs that go down well. a good radio mike interviwer in tandom with a good DJ who can announce would make a difference then you would go on to building the brand, as others have said dont disciourage a little needle between the riders you definately what to be there when hans turns up after trashing the locals on locsl radio or in the press. -

World Cup Final
longlivefrankie replied to mothorsen's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Excellent post, I think speedway needs to decide whether it's a sport or an entertainment When I started watching in the sixties there was a certain air of it being an entertainment re the likes of johnny Hoskins & the visiting bad boys etc. It changed to a more professional sport I would guess somewhere in the late seventies early eighties due in no part to the likes mauger & Olsen but has descended in between over the last decade or so I think in no small part to sky involvement Jokers, play offs etc & now seeding to a World Cup final? And I think the general publicl if they watched , we wish! Would Suss the artificial ness pretty quick For a so called World Cup final to be run as it was last night leaves ne in despair for the sport I once loved Sadly no more Someone needs to sort it from the bottom to the top -

Speedway Star - Point Of View

Yes and soon as that the match is no longer deemed first class cricket & all records do not stand in the first class game as was recently in the England v Essex ashes warm up game at Chelmsford. -
Is Speedway A Family Sport
longlivefrankie replied to michaelcroucher's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Wimbledon was particularly effective in the sixties & seventies when all lights went out except the track lights great atmosphere i think speedway started stressing the family sport tag when football had huge problems with crowd problems -

Odds On North & South Pl 2013?
longlivefrankie replied to greyhoundp's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
i think the conference idea would only work in a one big league scenario -
first speedway meeting I've seen for a few months, jeez how bad was that if that's the pinnacle of the sport god help it. I watched it with a few people who hadn't seen speedway ... they weren't impressed. they did comment on the commentators who in the words of the newbies "over excited about nothing" "why all they shouting when nothings happening" me i reckon Pearson's Italian cousin was doing the stadium announcing as well!

plough lane & hyde road for me, great memories loved it when they switched the lights off as a race would start at wimbledon. the atmosphere at meetings like the internationale & BLRC was something we'll never see the like of again i think. also wembley on world final night was something special and as good as the atmosphere can be at cardiff there was something extra nowing you would levae knowing who was world champion ven if ti was ole olsen !

toby was one of my first idols in speedway, so spectacular to watch. his all action style is still one of the most exciting i can remember. I was 10 when i first saw him ride and he still remains one of the most exciting riders I've ever seen. his battles with briggo, mauger et al were something to behold for me then as a boy. RIP Toby
