  1. the Valley greyhound track. it's right next to a hospital unfortunately.
  2. Re tracks in South Wales - There was some talk of a track in the proposed car & bike racing track planned for Ebbw Vale area which fell through much to my disappointment having moved to the area from Newport, And of course there have been 2 tracks in Newport - Somerton Park now a housing estate (built by the Housing Association I used to work for - the irony) and Queensway Meadows now a truck yard (after it burnt t down after it closed) as well the aforementioned Cardiff, Neath & Carmarthen (which was a great little track housed in a showground) and also tracks in the very early days at Caerphilly & Tredegar and possibly New Tredegar. A venture to bring racing to Swansea at one point was to come to nothing. The crowds initially at both Newport tracks were outstanding but faltered, but proved it could be feasible in Newport at least and it drew a support from across South Wales.
  3. 1972, 1975, 1978 & 1990 for me all were memorable for different reasons, 1972 because it was my first major event & the Wembley atmosphere (you had to be there to believe it) ,1975 because a Newport rider was in the running Crumpie was riding. 1978 was great atmosphere & finally 1990 was the best racing, We went on a Speedway Mail trip. Wiggy was the guest speaker at a dinner.
  4. Torbjorn Harrysson, if nor for the crash in the 1969 World Final?
  5. In case anybody hasn't seen the other speedway Look At LIfe - Speedway : look at Life ''Riding it Rough'' - YouTube Don't know if there's any others in this series?

  7. I don't think it's a prospect due hospital nearby and other issues, but would be handy for me one can wish!
  8. The only dog track in wales as far as i know is the valley greyhound stadium near Ystrad Mynach which about 12 miles from Newport. its been there for a while but is getting licenced. Dont think its suitable but i have read in reports it is opening up to other activities? The home of the Welsh Greyhound Derby - Valley Greyhounds
  9. As a Newport fan, I can remember going to 3 meetings in one day on Whit Monday 1976, Reading v Hackney in the morning then onto White City v Hull in the afternoon then Wimbledon for the Internationale in the evening. None of those tracks exist now sadly.
  10. From memory they had practice laps in The Conference League in either 1997 or 1998, worked well from memory.
  11. Started reading Rod Stewart's (I know ) autobiography last night and he mentions that his sister used to take him to the speedway at Harringay. Led to me thinking any other non speedway biographies mention the sport?
  12. RIP Brian was cornerstone of Newport Speedway for a long time.
  13. I think it does help to have a good announcer, when Newport returned we had Bob Radford then Jason Harald both were good in different ways. Presentation of anything is a fine art and needs preparation, thought and skill.
  14. Hello You can catch up here - you have to register Look At Life ¦ Talking Pictures TV (tptvencore.co.uk)
  15. There's a Welsh connection here, Glyn, Chum's son was born in Cardiff whilst Chum sas racing there in th early fifties.
  16. My worst memory of watching at Queensway Meadows was Lawrence's crash's outcome. Weird coincidence.
  17. I collect stamps...came across this one recently - has this stamp been stamped with a Exeter Speedway or have I joined the dots wrong? any clues
  18. Great Days, all I remember is the elephant on the race jacket and getting a enamel Halifax badge in the shop. I was hooked of course. and supported till the end in 1977. closures was number 2 was too much for me. I sold all my collection in 2014 to help pay for a move including that first little badge for my second favourite team "The Halifax Elephants" as I called them for a while much to everybody's amusement.
  19. Newport v Halifax 1965 Alby Golden, John Erskine, Eric Boocock, Dave Younghusband My family was sat next to Eric Boothroyd's wife (or so my late father said) in the grandstand at Somerton park I remember the elephant on the race jacket!
  20. I was lucky enough to see both Gote Nordin & Tobjorn Harrysson most weeks at Somerton Park and Gote Nordin winning the Internationale in 66. They would be my picks obviously 2 different styles
  21. Valley Greyhound Stadium Valley Greyhound Stadium - Valley Greyhounds 410 yards
