Lee geary will captain the team for our 2nd half meeting As to fixtures.. unfortunately we were unable to agree a date with a track near to london but we are in talks about going there at easter next year (its not Rye House) We have been asked to do some demonstration races at lydd but it depends on where we are that weekend and travelling. So here are out fixtues as we speak. Thurs 23/9 Redcar Fri 24/9 Plymouth Sat 25/9 Scunthorpe (individual summer open series) Thurs 30/9 Sheffield (2nd half) Fri 1/10 Weymouth Sat 2/10 (TBA) Sun 3/10 Newcastle (v Scotland select) This is by far the strongest Team Viking we have ever put together and will be a tough match for all our opponents, We have 4 riders in our ranks who will be no doubt riding premier league next year so I would urge you all to come out and see some young stars of the future in action.
  2. We are pleased to announce that Thomas Jorgensen will be returning to the Vikings for the tour. I am happy to say that we beleive Thomas is a future world champion and has already had offers from 5 premier league teams after his awesome performance on the July Tour. He will be riding at number 1 in the team and is looking forward to the challenge of taking on some premier league regulars when we go to Redcar. Thomas is an amazing talent and possibly the best rider to have worn the Vikings race bib so far and we are confident enough to say you will be seeing a lot more of him next year
  3. Well its back to the drawing board for us as Casper Wortmann has signed for Workington. We always knew a club may come in for Casper and fair play to him, the premier league is where he belongs. Anyway we have another date to add to our list. Friday the 1st October will se us head down to Dorset once more to take on the Weymouth wildcats. Weymouth has become a bit of a tradition for us now and we would like to thank Phil for inviting us down once more, we are always made welcome at radipole lane and are looking forward to beating the wildcats again (sorry Phil ) Dates so far... 23/9 Redcar 24/9 Plymouth 1/10 Weymouth 3/10 Newcastle we are awaiting 2 more meetings to be confirmed now. One of those will be against a midland team which means we don't have to travel far for once
  4. Today we are pleased to announce the "official" launch of the Tamworth Saxons As many of you are all aware the lid came off our new project a year early this month when we assembled a team under the Tamworth name to race at Weymouth which we won. Since then the interest we have recieved about this new project has been encouraging to say the least. The plan is now to run a few 2nd half challenges towards the end of this year and then begin the serious business next year of doing full meetings against national league teams. This is very early days and we need to get together a good fan base before we even consider entering a team in the national league, that will probably be our aim for 2012/13. With regards to entering a team in the league we need to test the water first and then the idea would be to track share and raise the profile of the sport in Tamworth. There are at least 3 possible sites for speedway in Tamworth but we will keep the details under our belt for the time being. We have been doing Team Viking for 2 years now but this is probably the biggest project we have taken on and we appreciate all your support in bringing the Tamworth name back to life. We are doing a Team Viking tour from the 23/9 to 3/10 but we are not sure yet if this will be the last tour before we put our time into the Tamworth project. Thanks for your support and UP THE SAXONS!!!
  5. We have decided that the number 7 spot in the team will be shared out between our UK Viking riders Sam Woods, Lee Geary and Danny Hodgson. This is part of Team Vikings policy of not only helping young Scandinavian's but also helping British riders to get competitive rides. On the UK Vikings front both Lee and Sam along with Ben Holloway and Andy Braithwaite will be fyling the flag for us this sunday (6th) in the Belgian golden helmet at Zolder. Its gonna be a busy week here on the Viking ship as we are now finalising the final 3 dates of the tour plus waiting on our 2 "big hitters" to confirm their intention to ride. Watch this space Team Viking
  6. Sounds like its speedways version of last of the summer wine lol It will be great to see Mad Dog here again and with Eddie Castro returning it should be a very entertaining tour. All the best from Team Viking
  7. The latest rider to add his name to our squad is no other than Casper Wortmann. Casper has had a good season in the premier league where he improved his average but was the unfortunate victim of Kings Lynn's mid season re-shuffle. Casper has always wanted to ride for the Vikings and was only too happy to except our invertation. Welcome to the viking ship Casper Team so far... Casper Wortmann (DK) Peter Karger (DK) Patrick Tarp (DK) Alexander Edberg (SW)
  8. can't confirm just yet but yes 2 of those tracks are within traveling distance of London
  9. Latest date to be added to our tour is Sunday 3rd October when the Vikings will travel north again to Newcastle to take on a Scotland select as part of a double header. We are currently in talks with 3 other tracks and shouls be able to make some more dates public in the next week. The tour so far..... 23/9 Redcar 24/9 Plymouth 3/10 Scotland (at Newcastle)
  10. It sure is a long trip but we like to keep these boys busy lol
  11. We are pleased to announce tonight that we have added another date to our end of season tour. Team Viking will be making our first ever visit to the South Tees motorpark to take on the Redcar Bears on Thusday 23rd September. This will be a challenge between premier and national league level and will see the Bears second string taking on heat leader roles. Also we are ready to name 3 of our riders for the tour.... Alexander Edberg from Sweden joins the team after some very impressive scores this year for Ikos Smederna in the Swedish 1st Division. Alex is a member of the Swedish U21 set-up and recently won a silver medal with Sweden in the Euro U19 team championship. From the speedway hotbed of Denmark we welcome to the team Peter Karger and Patrick Tarp. Peter is the 17 year old son of former grand prix star and world cup winner Brian and has been a good scorer for Vojens in the Dansish 1st division. Peter has only been riding speedway for 2 years but is already showing huge potential. Patrick comes back for his second team viking tour after riding for us on the 2009 end of season tour. Patrick was one of Denmark's best 80cc riders a few years ago but quit the sport only to make a comeback late last year. He has been putting in some good scores for Holstebro in the Danish 2nd division and will ride at number 7 in the Vikings team. He is known as the party boy... enough said Out dates so far.... Thursday 23/9 Redcar Friday 24/9 Plymouth more to be announced shortly
  12. Well I'm never going to say never after last night First of all a big thank you and well done goes to Colin Mackie for filling in at short notice and doing a fantastic job and also the 6 riders who gave it their all for Tamworth. The Tamworth project will certainly go ahead next year. We will start with some second halves and then progress to full 15 heat challenges like last night. I still want to continue the Viking's but we may shorten that to 2 tours next year at the start and end of the season to allow us to concentrate on the Tamworth team. As to building a track in Tamworth its very early days. There are a couple of possible sites but ideally I want to get the Tamworth name established first and build up a fan base before such a task is undertaken plus we don't have the deep pockets to fund a new track just yet ideally we would be looking for a financial backer to help us. One option would be to track share but before we even think about entering a full national league team we need to make sure that the whole project is viable. thank you for your support UP THE SAXONS!!!
  13. I will be managing the Saxons on friday night so let me tell you a bit about why I have chosen that name. We have been thinking of bringing the Tamworth name back to life for a while now with the intention of starting something next year and working from there, however I was asked by Phil Bartlett last week to put together a team to fill a gap in Weymouth's fixture list. It was not viable to put together a Team Viking squad due to August being a busy period in Scandinavia so I decided to start the Tamworth project a year early. Indeed the Tamworth side of the 50's were known as the "Hounds" and "Tammies" but we wanted something to relate to Tamworth history. Our original intention was to call them the "Mercians" as Tamworth was the ancient capital of the saxon kingdom of Mercia but unless you are a history buff most people would scratch their heads at that one so we have decided on the Saxons. I wont publicly name our riders yet, we will wait for Weymouth to put out the press release but we can tell you we will have 3 exciting young Aussies and a recent British champion in the team. Lets hope this is the first of many meetings for the Saxons. Kelvin Lapworth
  14. Just call them the "Dudley but should be Cradley Heathens" then everyone will be happy
  15. From an educated Yorkshire lady ! (Perhaps the lady part is a slight contradiction lol ) I do believe the above point is regarding the Union Jack flag which is in all fairness a compilation of the St George, St Andrew and St Patrick Flag. It is unfortunate there is no Welsh or green representation in the flag however this is due to Wales being legally annexed to England as it has been since the reign of Henry VIII in the 1530's ) Personally I would love to see the Queen with whippets and a pint of Stones instead of Corgi and a G&T
  16. Good point but we race under the banner of Team GB because we are what it says on the tin .... Great Britain. Yes we are all English, Scottish and Welsh but we are all united under one kingdom and one name and we should all be proud to call ourselves British. The same could be said in Spain where depending on where your from you could call yourself Catalan, Basque or Galician but at the end of the day they are all Spanish and when Spain won the world cup the whole country celebrated no matter what region they came from. Before being involved in speedway we were 100% English and were annoyed with certain so called "GB" sportsmen from other sports who appeared to be anti english. However after the welcome and friendships we have formed in Newport, Cardiff and Glasgow we now consider ourselves both english AND british - We were equally as proud when "Land of hope and glory" the english anthem was played as if "God save the Queen" had been played If Team GB had won today I'm sure that speedway fans in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Newport would have celebrated just as much as us English so lets all get behind Team GB and be proud to be from the Great nation we call Great Britain
  17. We are pleased to announce our first confirmed fixture of the tour.. Team Viking have been invited back to Plymouth to take on the Devils on Friday 24th September for a re-match following our 45-45 draw in July. Mike was very keen to have us back after feedback from the fans after some of the best racing seen at the arena on our original visit in July. We are really looking forward to this and we are aiming to put together our strongest team yet for the tour. We are at present in talks with 2 premier league teams and 1 elite league club about doing premier/national league level meetings and all are very keen to have us providing they don't have any rain-offs in between, I'll leave it to you guys to guess which tracks we are on about We will also be visiting Sheffield for our traditional 2nd half fixture but as of yet we Can't confirm which Thursday that will be. I am almost ready to name our first 3 riders but you will have to wait another few days before we make their names public, In the meantime we would welcome any requests or suggestions on who you would like to see racing for us. Thanks for your support TEAM VIKING 2010
  18. It really makes you sick how one person with too much time on their hands can try and bring down not just the sport but the stadium. You could sort of understand if Mildenhall stadium was in a built up residential area but its next to a busy air force base for crying out load and how much noise does that make. If the person in question complained about the air base he or she would be laughed at by the local council but motorsport is an easy target to pick on and unfortunately in most cases the council will take the side of one complaining. It just makes you mad though when you think Mildenhall stadium has been there for nearly 40 years and I wonder how long the person complaining has lived there? All the best to the stadium owners in their fight and lets all get behind them.
  19. Our Summer tour has only just ended and we have to say it was the best one yet. Not only did we manage to hold Plymouth to a draw with a depleated team, 3 of our riders have been offered contracts to ride here next year. Peter Juul has already got fixed up with Redcar and both Thomas Jorgensen and Marc Randrup are being chased by no more than 5 premier league teams!! We have now decided that our end of season tour will take place between the 23/9 to 3/10. I have spoken to numerous promoters who are keen to have us and the plan is to have 4-5 full 15 heat meetings with a couple of 2nd halves thrown in for good measure. We are in talks with 2 tracks about taking on their premier league sides so watch this space. We will name riders in the coming month but we can tell you that one of them is the son of a former world team cup winner and grand prix rider! Thanks for all your continued support TEAM VIKING SPEEDWAY
  20. Can anyone provide details on the following please? Danish 50cc championship 2005 - 2009 and the Danish 80cc Championship 2005 - 2009? cheers
  21. Team to face Plymouth on Friday the 9th July will be in riding order... 1. Marc Randrup 2. Thomas Jorgensen 3. Michael Melchiorsen 4. Lars K Fuglerud 5. Peter Juul Larsen 6. Sam Woods 7. Josh Pickering For the 2 young lads at 6&7 it will be a big day as they are both making their debuts at this level. We have also added another fixture to our list as we will be visiting Stoke on sunday 11th where the guys will all race each other over 6 heats for the "Viking Valhalla Championship". The 2 highest scoring riders after heat 6 will then face each other in a race-off to decide the winner.
  22. I thik the term "development league" is a bit false. The National league is run as a business the same as the elite and premier leagues and every team promoter knows he has to have a winning team to get the punters through the door to pay the bills thats just the way it is, if a rider is not performing then chances are he will be dropped and another rider regardless of nationality will take his place. So what about the "development" of British kids? answer is start them young on 50cc and then progress them to 80cc and them to 500's. We all bleat on about how something has got to be done but really we should be doing something NOW! the above mentioned system has worked in scandinavia for years and thats why there is always an endless conveyor belt of talent coming from denmark and sweden. It will take time but if this system was put in place in the UK chances are we would have 20 - 30 homegrown riders who would be at the top level within 10 years thus increasing the ammount of British riders in all 3 leagues and reducing the need to bring in overseas riders. Until that happens we will still be moaning on the forum about this topic in 5 and 10 years time.
  23. The Line up for the Team Viking summer tour has now been completed and we are now able to name the last 2 rider who will wear the Vikings race jacket. PETER JUUL LARSEN (DEN) 8/11/1990 Peter returns for his second Vikings tour after being our top scorer over the Easter tour. Eager to come back for more Peter has been riding for Esbjerg in Denmark this year where he has put in some good performances both in division 1 and the liga. After a short spell with Glasgow in 2009 Peter is desperate to get back into British racing and with a UK average of 4 points will be looking to impress. MARC RANDRUP (DEN) 4/3/1993 The "baby of the team" we have been following Marc since his 80cc days and this year has come of age in Danish speedway. Marc has been impresive for Slangerup in the danish liga and has been a top scorer for Glumso in the 1st division. This will be Marc's fisrt visit to the UK and he will be using it as a learning experience and who knows we may be seeing a star of the future in action. The team is now as follows. 1. Peter Juul 2. Thomas Jorgensen 3. Marc Randrup 4. Michael Melchoirsen 5. Alexander Edberg 6. Lars K Fuglerud As the most senior member of the team we have to decided to hand the tour captaincy to Lars Fuglerud who has always been a good team player. Team Viking 2010
