  1. yes, but that was awhile ago, same as when Richie Hall rode well there. It's not the same now.
  2. Think you will find that Master Richie has been Glasgow's best rider most meetings lately and well Lawson has been the usual unreliable guy he usually is. Richie never likes Sheffield.
  3. I remember that night and got a couple of photos of him posing with a couple of my Gems riders. He is good at posing.
  4. I believe our Start Marshall, Phil Day, stood in for him after the accident as he was down with the Diamonds.
  5. Who is Mr Benidorm DEAN ? PM me if you want to.
  6. I am referring to Jonny Swales who is our Track Curator. He also is second man to your usual TC, and he has been there whenever I have been this year. I think the new promotion had a better chance of getting him back than the previous. Yes. The added speed with the new breed of laydowns means you have to know how to turn the bike more so that at rounder tracks. Edinburgh, Lakeside, ipswich, etc, all have the need to turn the bike hard, but they don't have such long straights. The only compatible track to us was the previous Belle Vue at Kirky Lane. In saying that I still don't get the 'thing' about the banked 3rd and 4th bends at Redcar. Done apparently on Havvy jnr's request it was tying to recreate the same corners at Odsal. Very rarely seen any real genuine passing as if the outside guy is flat out, he is never going to catch the inside rider flat out as well. It might be fast but it's not racing. Seen more serious crashes coming off the 4th bend at speed, in the earlier days, than any other track I have been to. 1st and 2nd are genuine corners for racing, after the bends were reworked under Glyn.
  7. It's not. In the early 00's there was the Conference League which was well as bringing in new riders, also reshuffled 'old hands' riders. The stream of young riders started to slow, and there was a reduction of CL teams. With the introduction of the British Youth Championships rounds, this is bringing in youngsters under 16 who have got a lot of racing behind them at different cc levels ending with the 500cc class. Unfortunately the poor foreigners were still being preferred for team places, so ideas like the Draft Riders initiative was introduced, so every team needed to have minimum requirement of youngsters who obviously the displaced the poor foreigner. The BYC has come on leaps and bounds and just last week at Belle Vue round 6 had the greatest number of riders in track than any other round before. The kids riding that day started at about 10 up to 16, and obviously the younger ones will need to progress through the cc classes until at 16 they are competative riding on a 500 in real races. It takes a number of years to get to say a second string position and many will not make it, but at least it is better than not tackling the problem and be at the mercy of other countries for their poor riders. It may be cheaper to employ a couple of kids, but don't let people tell you that that is the main reason for giving them protected team spots. It is NOT.
  8. Not true. Essential to have reserved places to accelerate the number of youngsters coming into the sport and to reduce foreign riders and reduce the D/Uing. If the current level of D/Uing continues, most critics would be saying we should be encouraging the kids, which we are. Can't win can you.
  9. We took the 1st and 2nd bends in 2 metres in about 1999, and Mad Dog said we had ruined the track. We could take 2 metres off all 4 bends and the straights would still be long.
  10. Quite agree. SS damned if they don't do investigative journalism, and when they do they are damned for it being too long, too flippant, not news worthy, picking on someone ill, etc. I suppose the critics think it makes them look big, instead of just making them look foolish over some offbeat story that gives you a laugh. Big up, and get over it. Could still do both, but I think the BSF has the monopoly and rights on the subject highlighted.
  11. Not what you said, but I'll give you a Whooosh.
  12. Peter Oakes, with assistance from Helen Charlesworth you mean. But I assume then you couldn't get your usual dig in to PHILIPRISING in that case.
  13. I hope we are uk martin less in 2018. Won't be missed.
  14. Not true as the amount given by E I Addio was only for Premier Promoters. In some cases they have Bank Bonds which can be cashed if necessary. So there is no way the BSPA holds £840,000.
  15. Young riders would be given protection if they were limited to ride in two leagues only. It would open up a team place to another youngster and stop some of the excess D/Uing as at the moment.
  16. It has been said on here a million times, that the BSPA did NOT put up front their contribution, and it is on actual sales. The BSPA have NOT got that sort of money hidden under the sofa's cushions.
  17. When you own a business and responsible for the debts, why would you invite a stranger in and help you lose more. Would you in your business ?
  18. By the same measure that they know when the crowd is down. Not the hardest job to look around and see if the usual spaces are with filled or not. Not an exact science, but it isn't beyond the wit of the average fan I would suggest.
  19. That is what was said when fans from tracks reported on their current crowd levels early in the season. My track being one of them.
  20. How's the weather at Glasgow. We haven't travelled as all of the weather sites I usually use all say heavy rain to either 6 or 7. Hope it is on but safe to ride on, as after all they are all kids learning their trade.
