  1. It was that or get taken off. Good avoidance reaction.
  2. Thoroughly enjoyed the meeting last night with some good combative races. Scott still a class act and good leader, who engaged with the fans during the Ben Fund collection during an enforced delay with a torn gate panel and damaged gate. Ludde had a torrid night, but fortunately Matej, and especially Robbo, were back on top form with some stirring races especially from the front. Good steady backup from the 4 'alleged' reserves gave good back up when necessary, saw us across the line in the end despite a good fight back late on by the Panthers especially Scott. After heat 13, a draw looked certain, but a rash dive in on the inside from an 'outside rider' like Starke was desperate, and although he didn't appear to touch Robbo it did cause him to fall. Maybe a draw was going to be a fairer result and nobody would have begrudged them by the efforts of their top 3 plus the galant Bacon, but Starke's exclusion gave us a well needed win again fancied opposition. One of the best meetings of the season, along with the cracker against Ippy with Covatti. Nice to see quite a few Panthers fans on a Northern Tour. Oh to get back to us having a southern tour like in the 00's. Great meeting and racing in the NJL meeting again against a Peterborough team, the Motive Thundercats. Late start meant the track seemed sweaty, and a few falls early on which affected the diminutive Perry's scoring, I think on his first visit. Hope he is OK today with what looked like a wrist injury. Determined riding by especially Josh and Archie, with great backup by Danny, and 'enthusiastic' riding by Stephen, made the result look safe from the early heats. A great night for Newcastle Speedway. Referee gave good assistance and leniency to get both meetings, a large fence repair and full second half in with a lateish finish.
  3. It's cool with no rain now or forecast. Should be OK with plenty of rain in the shale already from Friday .
  4. Yes, the gain is putting in a better rider in to increase what they might have expected from the original rider. Doesn't really make that much difference (3 points max) but you get a better rider to hopefully give a better race to try and creep back points on the leading club.
  5. The same as what he scores. No doubles. I was at the meeting with my Gems team and throughly enjoyed the racing, but sadly in front of a poor crowd. Tricky first corner with ridges causing some problems. Schlein was holding his right knee with a wad of cotton wool and was in some distress. County ambulance was cancelled and Rory was put into the medical room and that freed up the ambulance to allow the last 2 heats to be concluded. At 9.20, immediately after heat 15 the NJL riders were wheeled out, and succeeded in getting all 6 races in by 9.55pm and beating the deadline by 5 minutes. Thanks to all for their hospitality and the cooperation of all, and especially Tony Jackson, for helping to speed things up so that the fans and riders got their full fill of meetings/rides. Tidy second half with the Gems winning 21-15 with some good battles.
  6. Just to add to my own post. If the outcomes of talks this week by the BSPA are embargoed, obviously George and Martin will not be discussing those. The fans meeting that has been called by Newcastle Speedway on Monday night at the South Gosforth Social Club(plug), is to talk mainly about the general running of the club in 2019, and also the celebration of the 90th anniversary of speedway at Brough Park. Everyone is invited, and questions will be taken from the floor to capture and ideas and feelings as to how we run next year. It's a consultation meeting and hopefully a lot of good and change will come out of it.
  7. I gather there was a meeting of the BSPA on Monday/Tuesday and the main topic would be next years league formats, so they are hardly in a position to announce anything till things are sorted.
  8. The 125/150 NJL Championship is going to be held at Edinburgh on Fri 24th August in the second half after their main meeting. The list of riders is as follows :- Sam McGurk. Berwick Luke Harrison Berwick Gregor Millar. Edinburgh Ace Pijper. Edinburgh Archie Freeman. Newcastle Danny Smith. Newcastle Jack Wright. Glasgow Alex Goldsbrough Redcar
  9. He was found in the back of his van after getting out of bed in the middle of the night and was working on his bike when he died.
  10. Just hope his Dad is not his mechanic this time.
  11. Not saying it was an excuse in Danny Birds case, but hadn't his mother just been diagnosed with breast cancer and was in bad health.
  12. Edinburgh won the 44.50 points League title, whilst we won the usual 42.50 peoples version.
  13. I quite agree. If it wasn't, it would open the doors for any cock and bull excuse.
  14. You don't give yourself any credibility by being sarcastic about the best youngster the area has produced for years. If we didn't bother to try to bring on the better youth of today, I suspect you would be the biggest Terrace Grumbler for "doing nowt as usual'.
  15. At last a decent and deserved win for the Gems. Glasgow were a bit understrength at the start, and suffered misfortune with falls and EF especially in the 125/150cc. Good competition from Sheldon Davies in the 500's getting second place in all his three rides, and pushing Josh from the gate in every race. Caydin had two falls, and although not injured, his bike prevented him taking his last ride. Maximums from both Josh and Archie, but the rider that took the eye was the tenacity of Danny Smith having his best meeting of the season. Watched by a decent crowd of Diamonds and Tigers fans, it brought to an end a long drawn out evening.
  16. Sargent seems to be an arse every season. His action could have seriously damaged both Ludde and his bike with his stupid move to block Ludde on the line. Don't even think about people who say the throttle works both ways, as Ludde had seen the gap and in a rush for the line the little Tw*t Sargent closed it after Ludde had already moved for the space. One day Sargent will get his comeupence, here's hoping. Missed Tero, and a hopeless guest who has not shown any Brough form, but I can only assume it had been thought that Tero was going to be riding and Stewart was the only local, available at the last minute. Robbo had a shocker except one ride and the rest just filled in holes behind the top riders that Glasgow had. Summers for Vissing, who is useless and dangerous at Brough, was a very big upgrade. Nice to see the Gems get a heathy win against the Giants 26-8 in the second half.
  17. The main meeting will be followed by a NJL meeting between the Newcastle Gems and the Glasgow Giants. Bring it on.
  18. And travel to every meeting for two riders.
  19. Whether the Swindon track is madness or not, It was included in a plan and passed by their council to provide a leisure sport facility alongside the accompanying housing development. To not build now would be illegal manoeuvring by people with this sort of history. Torquay beware. Belle Vue got through because it fitted in with Manchesters grand master plan for a massive sports complex, and there were people who forgot what business they were in and forgot about normal trading cautions.
  20. Forever the cynic I see. I deal with facts and realistic outcomes unlike you. Do you think Swindon fans are convinced they will have a track next year, given the manoeuvring of GB Stadia. I am sure they would love to be reassured they will have racing next year but not from you I would hope. I see no more 'rich' clubs on your list at the moment.
  21. Yes that's one, and the rest are ? You are assuming Swindon will have a track next year ?
