  1. Whatever happened to the 'excess travelling" problem.
  2. The green button was to facilitate betting in the Far East, along with transponders on the bikes, which showed a virtual race in the betting shops. I was at the presentations in London in the early 00's, but the idea didn't go forward. We were not working it through SKY, but a separate specialist company.
  3. Really. Look at some things that were published in the Speedway Star. Golden Heats, more that two teams per meeting, etc. Half the things that were said in those articles were not even true, when doing comparisons. Promoters don't usually need to be told by others how to lose money with gamble's. Some like Glasgow already hold the secret.
  4. Got to also be remembered, that Glasgow own their stadium and the outlets in it, so no 'rent ' as such, and an extra money stream, and possible tax exemption if they put it through their business. Ironic that the have poured money into riders who other clubs were likely to sign, only to call off the signing cos Glasgow has found the magic money tree. They are reaping what THEY have sown.
  5. Seeing some of the 'solutions' suggested on here, would anybody run the risks of trying most of them.
  6. The SCB is not invited to the AGM as it is for the BSPA to decide the future formats of speedway, so why should you be looking for anything on the SCB twitter. Every year a press statement is prepared as they leave the AGM for the Present Officer to write up, and issue it usually the morning afterwards. The main points are included and smaller items immerse in the period afterwards possibly having been presented to the SCB for scrutiny and comments. It's only in people's twisted minds that it's a mushroom situation, but if you feel neglected so be it. Many times something is agreed but on reflection, when other decisions are later made, the original decision needs to be amended. If they did what you expect, you and others would be on their backs saying something like "why didn't they wait till the end and publish the findings in full' and not very professional. Can't win really, hence the reason trying to get it right is more important than feeding the crocodiles looking in and ready to attack.
  7. It was introduced in 97, that was my first year as Promoter.
  8. This should be a header on some threads, for the number of times it has to be explained at the beginning and end of every season.
  9. If a single league is on offer, a lot of teams will drop out due to anticipated rising costs, and we will be left with a single league but reduced in numbers.
  10. Didn't work in the shakeout in the mid90's and highly unlikely to work in 2019. Teams would hang on to say two top hitters to deny one of them going to the lesser teams. Look how the 2 over 8 rule was 'accepted' by some PL teams.
  11. Not a bad effort THJ given your team assumptions. Maybe try Pickering on 5.41 instead of Starke say, but could go with the rest. Iffy about Garrity if he was on high money, as he's unlikely to give back to you what value you pay him. Missing meetings and rides in meetings, means you don't get to watch him every meeting and would need strong arm management IMO. Gappmaier is an interesting one as on his day at Berwick he was brilliant, but would take time to settle at Brough. Could be a signing to make us more competitive away on the bigger tracks like when we signed Andre in 2000 for.
  12. Possibly now the emphasis should be on the sport in general and the fans for greater consideration.
  13. And that was the rub. There used to be General Council meetings every month upto the 00's and I gathered that, due to poor attendances during the season and nothing seriously happening on a regular basis, it was decided to just call meetings on an adhoc basis if something required a full quorum. Answering Bruvs point above, there has always been pre AGM meeting/s every year to discuss the future, and sort out the finances owed between the promotions and the BSPA to finalise the financial statement and shareout, before the AGM.
  14. I think you will find that the promoters have already had several discussions pre AGM as usual, and that Tuesday and Wednesday will be about making the arrangements for the new initiatives and implementation, and getting the news out asap.
  15. Neither do I, but !!!!!!! Second half is free if you want it.
  16. Correct, but George has already said Newcastle can't afford to run in a single league, as the more affluent teams will force up the expensive costs of all teams. Newcastle won't be the only ones as well. Difficulty is the more teams don't return, the higher chance of a single league.
  17. Must admit I can't understand the mentality of folks on here who go to speedway, who are looking to get away from the meeting as soon as possible. At the end of the day it's a night out, and as long as the meeting is progressing at a decent pace, what's there to complain about. What's wrong with grading, unless it is long winded, after the grading the track should be better to then maintain a similar standard to keep to decent racing. At Newcastle we always aim to have 6 races( 125 and 500 3 races each) after every meeting with invited riders, that is when we do not have an NJL meeting which takes up about 6 or 7 second halfs in the season.
  18. Must have changed recently John as it was always enforced, hence arrangements like flying in Carslake in for Perrin in the early 00's.
