Newcastle vs Redcar 11/08/19 SGB Championship 6.30pm
Tsunami replied to StevePark's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
No idea Steve, but he's been riding for most of this season around the tracks. He would need a licence to ride against others on the track. No licence and he would be riding on his own. I believe he was excluded from a place in the BYC earlier in the year. -

If it is on, there would not be a problem with him riding as, like Friday, his score would just be deleted from the scorers. Happened to us last year at Edinburgh when a non eligible rider Willie Lawson ride for us, and his score was deleted at the end of the meeting. He might be Polish but he must be riding on a British racing licence from the SCB. -
Any further updates please. The forcast is saying that rain starts now and will be in all night.

Well Well Well. Dickie Juul in the middle of it. Who would have believed that. -
Yup. Three full working days.

I understand that at first the ref wanted to take Cook out of the meeting, but the Eastbourne promotion asked for him to be reinstated so as to not weaken the meeting. I believe Cook will be dealt with in an alternative way. -
And Steve only got 3 points at Wolverhampton on Monday riding for BV and winning heat 1. He was pulled from his last ride. Hope he gets back to his usual as he is the key rider as opposed to Thomas and Lasse.

They'll never get out alive.

Thing they have left a loose rotweiller in the house. By now it will be very hungry.

With the threat of rain, Darren Hartley the referee, kept the races flowing at a good pace and the meeting was clocked as taking 1 hour 25 mins. Fortunate there was no crashes and no RR, but it was run at a good pace again without an interval. The Thunderstorm that was forecast as 1.00, 4.00, 8.00 eventually hit the stadium at abouit 9.30 and it rained for some hours afterwards. Had it started at any of the earlier predicted times the meeting would have been washed out and another trip up for Somerset with virtually no available Sundays on offer. We got away with it. Agree with the comments about the lack of contribution of the 3 heat leaders. Even if the track was dry, and needing different settings, a team that doesn't ride weekly at Brough got it spot on, so why didn't ours. ?

Family holiday. Back for this weekend.

Eastbourne v Glasgow Semi Final

It would seem there was two many Cooks there last night. Jon is very stupid at times and not always fit to be a Promoter IMO, whilst Cook gets involved in too many altercations at tracks, including my own track when a couple of years ago he deemed the pits gate helpers didn't get the pit gate fence open as quick as he wanted. Difficult combo him and his Dad. -
We wish for a better response of course, but we do get some new people to attend, and note if they continue to come. We view it as something we should do, taking speedway out to these occassions in the hope of spreading the news as to say. At the recent show at the Northumbria Police Bike Wise event at Arkley Heads, Durham we had a visit from Alan Butterfield's(60's rider who was at our wedding) son who came to have a chat, and catch up on Alan and Dot. He's looking forward to the 90th anniversary event, and was also at the 80th event.

Of course we do. As Steve says above, we attend many events and shows with a top class stand, including a running TV with a meeting on to show people what it's all about. In addition we have usually 3 bikes on show, one a current riders league standard bike, the second bike a working Westlake from Alan Roberts and my show bike which also has a reaction machine for starts timing. It's good fun. We issue flyers to the public, and concession tickets to encourage new people to give the sport a try especially if they have young family they can bring. By issuing special tickets we can monitor if they were used, and who uses them. We occasionally have riders with us. Ludde was always very accommodating and was good value for his appearance, often taking the mic and also being asked to make presentations to the organisers choices. We also visit schools if we are asked, and have also been at the Heaton Music Festiva as well as many local schools. We are currently trying to make a visit to the Metro Centre or the Eldon Square complex. We are always up for more suggestions and if you or anyone else needs to contact us, can you see either Dave Rowland or Steve Brock. If we can we will. NB. if anybody is interested, we usually post a photo of our stand on Facebook as soon as it is erected. This is to tell everyone where we are on that day in case existing fans want to come down to see us or join us. Look for 'Newcastle Speedway' posts.

Ollie Allan scored one point, and we took him out of his last ride. Went down as the worst guest we ever had.

Scorpions v Glasgow 28.07.19
Tsunami replied to ScunnyDan's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
I remember that night well. Carr who was performing rather well all season, was picked independently by the late Will Hunter, along with Dickie Juul who was not happy. All smiles in the Monarchs camp as if they knew Carr was going to be picked, and therefore was clean on the night. I was a promoter at the time and therefore very close to the happenings. Juul was unhappy to being picked as he got only £50 for the inconvenience but he stated it was going to cost him £400 to get it back to how it was before the checks. Not sure if the engines were taken away and returned to them later. -
Sheffield Tigers v Newcastle Diamonds
Tsunami replied to Col's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Correct. The agreement on this date suited both parties with us giving up our seniority for a Sunday meeting. With the Sunderland Airshow in the area over the weekend, medical and police resources were stretched so it was best to get away to Sheffield, and save Sheffield needing to have the meeting on another night such as a Thursday. Unfortunately that option as Leander has said is now not available with all our Sundays taken up. -
News for fans of standard 2V engines

Correct. A 6 figure up front and then per number bought. -

That's not the detail that I heard. Apparently the commission for the bought engines, was progressive, and based on the number of engines bought. There was never a one lump of £300,000 paid. -
Well they have at least had the guts to try and make it pay, and it cost them a lot of money to do so. Rent a solution people on here get off lightly by not being asked or prepared to actually give it a go, and risk their own money on any silly suggestions that they come up with. Very safe seat that one.

Ha Ha. Not quite the right spin on it again. When it was confirmed, it was understood to be a reward to the promotions to maintain the team strengths, and as expected a most needed increase in the income stream to keep speedway more viable. Certain powerful riders from another country, upped their demands followed by home riders in the same class. That filtered down to lesser riders , and in order to keep SKY happy and retain the top riders, the promoters were forced to cave in just to retain the status quo. You could blame the promoters, like you usually do, but the alternative would have been vastly reduced team strengths, and SKY possibly rethinking the deal as the UK speedway bosses would have been though to not delivering their side of the deal. The potential windfall reluctantly went to riders, who held the them Elite League promoters to ranson. A very sad joke indeed but for different reasons to yours.

Not sure that's true in relation to Newcastle. Yes we have pollution problems, but it has been pointed out to Newcastle Council that that the tolls don't do anything to stop the pollution in the first instance so the clear air problem would still be with us. Being a Labour led Council, and always moaning about government cuts, it's likely that the council see it as a money spinner to get more money in their coffers. Liverpool and Newcastle are probably the hardest hit of the larger councils with the cuts.

7 out of 9 points. NJL level.

He was at the meeting riding in a Gem's NJL meeting after the main meeting.

I can assume then that you don't watch the cricket World Cup matches or play squash between the innings.
