  1. Top post Dave and I agree with everything you said. We are in trouble of imploding with some of the tossspots on here who have to try and drag a sport down that they pretend to love. Not on for me. Aussies back Aussies but we just moan. Why the hell the likes of orion write on here, cos he just wastes space on here. Team GB did great tonight with the right team selection, the right team manager and the right team setup. Thank god for Buster who produced a gem of a track which changed quite regularly and made the riders work their setups. The performance of our Brits surpassed what I though we would especially our Jason's brother. Great experience but I still think we will come in last on Thursday. Never mind, it will be useful experience again and I would put Lee R in instead of Kennet but not Nichols. This could be the start of something but we have to patient and that's coming from a TOON fan. The meeting was a great advert for speedway and I have met non speedway people today who looked at it and were greatly impressed. This meeting should be prescribed by the Doctors for sick people. BTW Hope you enjoyed your seemingly World tour which must have been a great experience for you and I am sure it has made some of us quite jealous. Have a great trip to Poland and a safe return to OZ. Pity we didn't meet perhaps next time.
  2. Expect Parsloes up any minute to deny the bad Wembley experience and blame the whole thing on non Cockney's. Cardiff for ever.
  3. Really enjoyed everything about the meeting last night. The camera work, the commentary, the track, the presentation, and of course the contribution of the riders. 110% as Edward would say. The track produced some rocket gates at times and allowed some great passing and cutbacks. Funny how everyone early on was going for the dirt to get a longer drive down the backstraight when Tai did the opposite and went inside and got even better drive. Impressed again by Daniel King who I think has come on leaps and bounds, including his fast riding in our 80th Anniversary meeting at Newcastle last Sunday. If the televised meetings can keep up to the standard of this one, and the Scunny/Sheff meeting, I can see SKY ditching a few PL footie matches in future. Well, we can but dream. Top stuff and great to see so many Brits on the pace.
  4. But it was all good fun at the end and Newcastle Speedway was a happy place on Sunday.
  5. Just to round up this meeting and keep it back on topic for a while. Great to see such a quality field for our 80th Anniversary meeting. It was well worth the large expense that it took to put it on. Do the sums, £4k for the winner and even the botton men would still be taking home a decent pay package to make it worth their while to ride. Many thanks to the promotion and the sponsors for making it all work on the night. Great to see all the sponsorship packages completely sold out and taken up by a lot of people who are not the usual sponsors. It was their way of making a contribution to such an important event. Good fun in the upstairs square bar later when the racejackets, and other memorability, were sold off at some amazing prices. As usual Dalbers held it all together with his usual enthusiasm egging bids out of people and him ending up paying £100 for a Mackem's signed ball. Good participation of all the riders in the racebib sales especially Chris Mills joining in with Harry B to get son Craig's bib. Thanks Chris. After entertaining a civic reception at the Mansion House on Friday for the Newcastle Diamonds, the Lord Mayor performed the opening proceedings as one of his last duties before he bows out of office later this month. With his regular participation, and his match race with Jason using real size bikes, I think he has been the most hands on and enthusiastic Mayor we have had the pleasure to deal with. With his 2 new season tickets, I certainly hope we have the pleasure of his company during the rest of this year. Nice to see some old hands there such as Alan Butterfield and Russ Dent in addition to former rider and partowner Brian Oliver. Also spotted Adrian Rymel and old favourite Mike Carroldine(sp). Many old friends were back for the meeting, it would be great if they decided to return on a regular basis. Maybe the cold weather and football on the telly reduced the crowd a tad but the bars were certainly more crowded and there was a decent outside crowd in attendance. Here's looking forward to the 85th Anniversary meeting, but this one will take some topping overall.
  6. Quite agree and it was rather appropriate to commemorate the contribution of David and Val to Newcastle Speedway. They have both been private supporters of our promotion for the last 12 years and their continued support has been very critical at times.
  7. You really are a tosser with no credibility. Time and time again you come on here with your poisoned abuse with whatever problem you have that day. BTW Hugely is spelt as I have spelt it.
  8. Quite agree. The weather is bright and sunny, with no rain, so it's got the ingredients for a great day of speedway. Get ya sel there.
  9. Nice that so many like yourself have chipped in and sponsored a rider. Just hoping the weather is fine enough for us to see this cracking field.
  10. Only one more day before the BIG event. A bit of rain today and the track is going to be perfect for a brilliant meeting. See ya there.
  11. With Leigh Lanham now in the field, I know of 2 daughtas who will be very pleased to see him.
  12. Pity about that because it would have been great to see Kasprzsak for the first time at Brough and of course to have seen KB return as a GP star now. Never mind these fields regularly change and McGowan is no mug. As GLS has said, it would be great to see old fans back for this one and hope that everyone is trying to bring others to see a classic field riding for the biggest pot ever at Newcastle for a championship meeting. Bring it on.
  13. I see in last nights programme that old boy Will Lawson is in the field for next Sundays 80th Anniversary meeting at Brough starting at 5.30pm. Unfortuntely Glasgow are riding against Edinburgh and Redcar are at Newport otherwise it would have been great to have riders such as Parks, Grieves, Proctor and Fisher. Only 2 more riders names to be released and we have the full field.
  14. I'm hoping that the last 2 to be named will be released tonight at the home meeting against Scunny. It makes sense if they have been signed up.
  15. Things will pick up believe me. Anyway in the meanwhile we have this fantastic meeting to celebrate our 80 years Anniversary.
  16. Never thought of Kasprsak being invited. Be interesting to see him and Bjarne racing, as at Poole they seemed to race each at 1 & 2 and eventually had to be moved around so as not to race together. Being a Pole as well allows us to tap into the Polish community who live on Tyneside. An unexpected signing which could also do us good in the longer term, good move. Haven't heard who the other 2 signings are yet but the meeting is certainly going to be a highlight of our year.
  17. Being on a Sunday, several of the top GP riders are unavailable due to Polish fixtures.
  18. You did canny and had a hard act to follow. BTW I thought you had the score the wrong way round. Pity I didn't meet you aswell as Pollyana.
  19. Well, we all arrived home at teatime after a terrific couple of days away to support our ex rider in his testimonial. After a trouble free journey down in the large coach, we all descended on the stadium only to find even more Diamond fans that we didn't know were coming as well. A large crowd estimated at being over 3000, were entertained by a canny field that Bjarne had assembled. The state of the track was commented on very early and it must have been the first time ever that I have seen a blade used after only about 2 heats. A couple of riders were distinctly not happy with the track. Understandably Bjarne was a bit subdued in his first couple of heats but returned to normal form after that. Racing wasn't that great but heat 15 certainly raised the bar a bit. The final heat was the final for top scorers and the dicing and overtaking of Nicki and Hans had to be seen to be believed. Powering under each other legitimately, drifted across the corner allowing the other to pull back to restore the lead, they repeated the feat lap after lap until Nicki increased his lead and went on to a good win. His starts, and especially entry into the first bend, were unbelievable and made him stand out and if repeated for the rest of this year will surely see him keep his world crown. Bjarne was his usual concerned self and was enquiring at all times that things were OK and going according to plan. We did a TR with Nicki but unfortunately Bjarne declined another against Hans and of course then went out and defeated him with professional ease. A nice night with a big crowd and a big payout for a good guy. Thanks Bjarne for the invite, i appreciated it. Talking about good guys, I also met Steve S, Shaleshifter and also Dorset Delight after I was pointed out by my ginga daughta. Nice to meet you for the first time and also good to meet up again with BobC but unfortunately not rabbit who I understand was unable to attend. Take care Sue and hope to see you again sometime this year on our travels. After some tasty bidding for the signed bibs, bike covers, kevlars, etc, it was back at midnight to the hotel where Bjarne had arranged for a party for everyone which included our lot from 3 different hotels, his Danish friends and family, sponsors, Matt F, Middlo and numerous speedway hierachy. The night was long and the beer free so eventually we all went home/bed when we were full. An extremely enjoyable couple of days in good company carrying out our missionary work on the South coast, before we returned to God's country, the North East. Look forward to returning on any lame excuse I can think of.
  20. Many thanks for making your kind offer again. I have spoken to the airplane lot and they had already made arrangements and were on different planes back anyway. Once again thanks. 9.00 we set off in the morning. Looking forward to my first team beating my second team but probs not favourite now if the young ruskie is going to be missing. Never mind, still a great field and a great occasion to honour the favourite Diamond. Hope to meet a lot of forummers as I reckon there is about 10 - 12 formmers on our bus and in cars. Don't ask me who's who cos I haven't got clue who they are anyway. See ya the morrow like.
  21. At the Diamonds' Supporters meeting tonight after the 80p event, it was announced that New Danish sensation, Kenni Larsen, will now take the place of injured Jason Doyle. I assume that means Stoney will rejoin the Poole team to allow Kenni to ride for his British club. Makes sense rather that Diamonds fans having to cheer on Stoney who of course now rides for the Redcar Bears. I know it's a friendly but come on. Still a cracking line up and counting down the time before the meeting on Wednesday.
