  1. We used to have our own burger van in the mid/early 00's in front of the office block, supposed to be to save disabled people from going upstairs to the bar kitchen. We were charged £150 rent for the spot by the stadium, but it took a lot of trade off the other outlet especially as the burgers were freshly made by a local butcher, and they are made from prime beef. Used to sell tea and coffee, and there was alway a queue everytime you looked. I'll bet that's made you more hungry now. Good idea for Rob that, helps the disabled of course.
  2. I thought he replaced the Anderson's van. ?
  3. He did a few years ago at the end of the season, when knew the Polish fixtures were coming to an end.
  4. It is. The family have a farm beside Ponteland, and son Rob runs his food van at big shows as well as now Berwick, where his father Big Rob is still well revered. Rob has always been very independant, and has been in his business a number of years now after retiring from riding.
  5. Robert has many links with Brough having rode for us , worked in the dog staff and his late mother worked at the track for a long time. It's a bit like coming home for him and probably his father and I wish them the very best of luck to open up the Diamonds in 2020. We know who will be selling the pies now,
  6. He did improve his handling of our track after his first rides, when he looked as if he was trying too hard. I see him regularly in the Redcar training meetings as well and he can be a lot better with more rides. Actually if we run next year I would like him at Newcastle, especially if it means no Danny.
  7. Well, when the BSPA did try to do that with graphics and transponders on the bikes., One of the requirements was for the white helmet cover to change to green so the punters, particularly the Far East and others at home, could use their TV remote control to carry out their bets watching live graphics constructed from signals from the transponders. The income was forecast to be huge, but unfortunately the graphics were the stumbling block and it didn't happen. Just demonstrates that things like that were well thought out, and plans like the green helmet were put in place ready for it's possible introduction. Had it been successful it would have dwarfed the income from the TV rights. But all fans remember is the joke about green helmet covers.
  8. I see it has now been announced that you have signed Nicki Pedersen. On his twitter account as well as the BSPA official site. Congratulations to your management for getting such a scoop in these days. Bit different from when we signed him in 1998, but still a top rider who will be number 1 in the Championship.
  9. Just like to add my thanks for you Sue for putting so much into getting updaters and texters needed to cover every meeting every day of the week. We tend to take it for granted, but I am aware of the difficulties you have especially when a usual Texter in not available for genuine reasons. I wish I could do more to help you..
  10. It really not for me to say, but I hope so. When we restarted it in 1997, we had to rebuild from scratch with a new track, fence. shale, pits, fans and of course a new team. Those things, except the team, are already in place so it's just a case of reassembling it and look for a new Nicki P. George must be involved.
  11. Interesting that Newcastle Diamonds has been given an Extension to seek extra investment which would allow them to run again if 2020. When we revived the Diamonds In 1997, our first year with George, Me and Peter Gibson, the ownership of the stadium was taken over by Receivers KPMG, and the 3 leading bidders for the stadium all declared that they wanted and need the Speedway to run the stadium. We went to the AGM to say we couldn't for sure say we were running, but we were convinced the stadium sale would ensue we ran in 1998. That was accepted by the BSPA, and John Campbell proceeded to include Newcastle Diamonds in the Premier League and both Cups. The sale of the Stadium went though in January 98, and we were include in the fixtures and we started to add to the couple of riders that stayed loyal to us with a young scamp called Nicki P. Matches started in March 98, then on 1st April 98 I received an Invoice from the BSPA for a £5,000 pounds fine for not being able to say we were running.in 98. A protest was ignored even though we didn't have the money but we had to pay it in a short period . Fortunately, most of the big boys on the BSPA MC have lesser power now, so one would need to check that history is not repeated with a new promotion trying the benefit the general sport of Speedway. I do think with the current state of Speedway, the newer hands will not be so self centred and allow a team to return without a damaging punitive fine. I wish the attempt the very best of luck if we can find the capital to make sure it runs in 2020.
  12. Promoters are not allowed to issue their own statements, the official BSPA statement is compiled about Sunday teatime and either issued then or the following morning.
  13. Says the guy who wouldn't go to the speedway, even if he got in free, like he used to but stopped when asked to pay like everyone else.
  14. Although the Bond that is lodged with the BSPA is used for speedway debts such as to riders (at a fixed rate), and money owed between clubs and the BSPA/SCB.
  15. Very well said THJ. Too many(usual culprits) seem to look for negative threads so they can jump in for another moan, giving all the things that the promotions should do cos they say so. Generally on here they admit they don't go, and it's year since they were at a meeting. These are the sort of people who are 'dropping the turd in the pool" to quote your example in a following post.. I assume it makes them big in their little world (I told them) but it does poison the atmosphere and only encourages others to drag up their favourite gripe even though they haven't been for years and "wouldn't go back enen if they gave me a free season ticket - Moxey". if you have a problem, deal with it with the person responsible and it's likely you will get some action. Instead it's moan, moan, moan.
  16. Just been round our house talking about joining the Diamonds next year. Got a spare room so that's a given now.
  17. So why has he lost so much money this year then, and he can't keep auditors,
  18. People on here think you are riding for either Bandits or Poole.
  19. How old was Kenny Carter when he rode for us at Newcastle. Must have been about 16.
  20. Being around the junior scene for many years now with my own produced riders, I have watched his progress and he is the real deal. He has progressed very steadily with great support from his whole family. He is not dirty, he is not a throttle basher, but he is a very technical astute rider who has great confidence and style. Of the recent great successes emanating from the junior scene and the NL, Jordan is the best, and is now being pushed by the Thompson twins, who will make great progress next year. My protege Archie Freeman is next, and next year we have hopes that he will follow in the same direction that Jordan has. The junior scene is looking very good and healthy, but we need a National League to drop into for more competition to take them to the next step, the Champiomsship.
  21. MIght be, but sounds like the guy who came down from Berwick for a little time after Dalbers. He was connected to the then film crew.
