  1. As others have said this was a great night of speedway. As the start time approached, one always felt that it would start raining but fortunately the light drizzle there was was not heavy enough or for long enough duration to mess the track and the riders vision. A quality field had been assembled and only Lee Complin(replaced by Richie Harkins)and Rene Bach (injured) and Suchanek brought in with Lemon moving over. Meeting started by the riders in the first race lining up for a proper start but the wrong way round. Good laugh and pleased they didn't go for the 4th bend with them footpegs on the wrong way. The track had had to be skimmed at 1.00pm and looked superb given the conditions. Interestingly, with minimum grading and the 'wheel', the track hardly changed for the whole of the meeting with even times right to the end races. KB having not raced on it for over 6 years found his settings difficult till his later races when he did the business despite being overtaken convincingly by Pepe in one race. Chris Kerr had a good night, after a bad first ride, but still had his obligitory fall in his third ride. Danny King is so fast, and with this performance on a little track and his sterling performance last year at Peterborough in the WC, one has to wonder why he is not a consistant and better rider than he is. Never thought that the meeting would go the full distance, but with a sense of urgency and good and prompt refereeeing by Graham Reeve, the meeting reached it's normal end with the top scores race with KB winning and Kenni dropping it on the second bend trying that bit too much to beat another Dane. Special message to the match races with George, Jiri and Sam. Jiri, on a special rebuilt Jawa, looked very comfortable and put in a decent performance being on track with George for the very first time in their lives, and especially because of his age and lack of practice for the event. Superb auction hosted by Dalbers, who extracted all he could from the assembled gallery and ensured that the visiting Czech fans went home with empty pockets. Pity about the TOON helmet but I was not going to outbid a Czech for it. Excellent organisation by George, Julie, Steff, Steve B, ably assisted by Lauren and Alice on the night, with special mention to the riders, team managers, other helpers, sponsors, Newcastle Speedway and even Brough Park personell for allowing the 'afters' to continue well after licensing hours. A great night with fans from all sorts of tracks, especially Glasgow and Wolverhampton. Even met up with KJ, which was nice, as we haven't seem or heard enough of him this year. The turnout was extremely good, given the weather and the forecast, but I think everyone went home very satisfied with the evening and especially George and family of course.
  2. It was certainly appreciated. I pointed out the number, and their professional attire, that all track staff had on for the meeting. Excellent presentaion and the meeting was run at a good even pace. You knew when the gaps were going to be and it was amazing how the track times repeated the same pattern after every 4 heats. So it's back to Sheffield again next year, Rene has unfinished business.
  3. Not rained for over an hour now but the air is damp. TyneTees TV forecast is no rain tonight, so I think we have a meeting. Contact at the track said they have cut the track, no puddles and the track looks the same as last weeks which was slick until roughed up by the wheel. Will be cold mind, so you might need a vest, and don't forget it is a 7.30pm first race start after the intros. Might be prudent to miss the intros and get on with the racing mind.
  4. Probably a release of the tensions of hoping that they both could go on and one of them be the champion. What with the disappointment at both the Pairs and the 4's you could not really celebrate till Kenni rounded the 4th bend for victory. Just think, if our luck had held in both the Pairs and the 4's, aye, the thought of dreams. Bloody airfilters.
  5. Wonderfull day yesterday with a good crowd, lots of Diamonds fans, some good racing and overtaking, good company in the shape of HalifaxTiger and BobC, meeting ColinCooke and partner for the first time and of course meeting up with Paulco in the bar later(now there's a first). Waved to Lucifer Sam, in disguise, and I think he waved back but I wish he would use all his fingers in the wave back. Great result of course with Kenni doing the blitzing from the gate, and Rene being Rene with his sluggish gates and outside overtakes. Good having direct entry to the final to save any mishaps, and let the rest slug it out to join them in the final. Thought the track was good throughout and, with regular dragging the dirt back to the inside, all racing lines were available. Tense start to the final when our pair tangled at the first corner but fortunately it was all four back. Rene very shook up and I hope his arm is OK today once the adrenelin has worn off. He didn't seem to be happy with his forks in the rerun and this and his injury probably stopped him performing like we know he can. There's always next year for you Rene, hopefully as a Diamond again and possibly a winner. On to the winner. Last year, Kenni started with a couple of wins but petered out his challenge and missed out on the Semi. He was very down and said to George E that "I will come back next year and win it". Man of his promise, he did and won it well and he seems to have been a popular winner with all fans. What would have happened if they hadn't tangled, could we have had a 1-2 on the rostrum? Would Rene have won it from Kenni? We will never know. Mind you, it would have been even more interesting if Mark had ridden as well, instead of the low performance from Frampton. 1-2-3 a possibility eh Mention to Lee Complin for a couple of good races, Fisher's outside pass in Heat 15, the sensible riding of Auty after his disastrous 1st race, good fair track throughout, nobody hurt, yes it was a canny day.
  6. It should be Lemon full stop. No deals, no guests just the next guy eligible according to averages which is supposed to be the criteria.
  7. Great field and probablly as good as any before. After last Monday's meeting it would be great for KB to bring back Lasse and for Ollie Allan to tag along with them.
  8. Try the site www.defunctspeedway.co.uk and you will find Crewe under C. Some great pics and articles put together by forum member dantodan.
  9. Wayne is Barry's younger brother, who came over to ride for Edinburgh at Old Meadowbank in about 1961. A raw talent, who was not frightened to ride flat out, and subsequently seemed to get injured quite a bit. Always seemed to have broken wrists. Good rider to watch though.
  10. I remember him, he used to wear leathers which were in quarters, different colours. Most unusual design.
  11. Twisted knee, he will makes his own decision in the morning about riding at Brough in the Glasgow meeting.
  12. That's what I was hoping, and also betting that that would be your reply. Not knocking your vast knowledge but I think Kevin's view on the track is a tad more applicable in this case.
  13. That's who the target for Glasgow at Brough is. Great choice, one of my favourite genuine riders, and I would have been mighty disappointed if it had been Fisher. Incidently, can anybody who went to Birmingham for the Premier Trophy final meeting help me. Someone took a photo of BongoBrian, and George(our honorary Diamond fans for the night) holding the PT trophy in the bar after the meeting. If it was you, or someone you know, can you speak to me tomorrow night at Brough so we can arrange to get a copy of it to Brian and George. They are desperate to get a copy of it and it would be great to find who took the photo and get them a copy. Many thanks. Another comfortable win tomorrow but sadly, with it not being a holiday in Scotland, we will be robbed of the company of many Glasgow fans including George and Paulco. All is not lost mind as BongoBrian will be in attendance.
  14. Following on from Sunday's away meeting with the Tigers, as usual with Bank Holidays, along comes the home meeting on the Monday. Barring injuries of course both teams would hope to be fielding the same sides with Glasgow showcasing their big 2 in Screen and McGowan. Not sure about seeing Joe at Brough before but, like Travis, he will be up for it and give us a show especially the similarity of Brough to BV. Unfortunately I don't see much backup to them except Josh who has made steady progress this year and had excellent meetings at the Pairs and on the BV TV meeting. Looking for to see Nick Morris as his scores are matching the faith that others had in him. I see an easy win but then again, we thought that on the previous Bank Holiday meetings and look what happened there. Don't forget it is still a 6.30 start on Bank Holiday meetings. Unfortunately there will be no Training session in the afternoon once again, due to the bikes and van still being in the garage. I get it back this week and our next session will be 1.00pm on Sunday 12th September before the Berwick meeting. Next week of course we host Birmingham and that meeting is on the Monday night starting at 7.30pm. See youse all there.
  15. Seen Arthur a couple of times. He apparently is more interested in road/track racing and treats speedway just for fun between his other meets. Comes across here with his Dad I think, and gets second halfs around the country. I have seen him at Newcastle and Edinburgh and he really is a talent despite that fact he would probably have to look upward to speak to Lasse Bjerre, he really is tiny and slight built. A great talent but destined elsewhere as I believe he is a sponsored team rider.
  16. Thought your glasses were only for looking thought after you finished the Bow.
  17. Only billybikespeedway making his usual waves on here. It is nice to see everyone sympathetic to the Mallets for what they were trying to do and giving the meeting every opportunity to be on. Contrast that with the comments of a couple of months ago and I think that Newport Speedway has come a long way since then. Good luck to them, and the team, and hope that the crowds are making it all worthwhile.
  18. I suppose it would have been too late to divert to Somerest for their 10th Anniversay meeting(assuming that that is still on of course). If it is, I suppose they could call in and miss a couple of heats.
  19. Now where did I put my specs.
  20. Didn't know you had died. Welcome back.
