Speedway At The Crossroads
Tsunami replied to 2ndbendbeerhut's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Add in also the wages and travel costs of the riders for the away meeting, when the away team does not get part of the meeting income, except for a contribution for their riders points based on a low exchange rate agreed between all clubs. -
Speedway At The Crossroads
Tsunami replied to 2ndbendbeerhut's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
No club has only adults attending at say £15 per person. My own experience showed that the full price payers are about 63% of the total attendance, the rest being split between Students, concessions and children. -
Actually I agree on that, seriously. Some helmet covers are so old, they have either been washed out, faded and in the case of the white one, they often appear to be cream more than white, getting it confused with the faded yellow ones.

Belle Vues National Speedway Stadium
Tsunami replied to Phil The Ace's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Thanks for the compliment. It's you who is the pathetic critic of everything on here, from politics and anything positive in speedway. You have repeated form, so it is quite easy to make assumptions about you, that you are a negative kind with a a bit of a chip on your shoulder. The proof lies in what you write, especially in General Discussions. Try saying something or DOING something positive and folks like me would have to eat my words. Somehow can't see it happen though . -

Love to hear some good news of this project Philip. but there will be no apology from him despite him usually being all mouth. -
Whooosh.

Not really. You have to know your income to know what you can afford and spend. Far better sitting down together and see what's on offer, or required by SKY; and respond with what you can do.

What Can Be Done For Young British Riders.
Tsunami replied to Jonny the spud's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Quite agree. Most other major countries seem to have some form of preference for their up and coming riders, but we being the UK seem to be the only only one that plays ball. I am sure sport laws are different from employment laws anyway. -

Slightly different from that, but I think we should leave it to Gordon Pairman, and the folks that he is dealing with, to see if an amicable conclusion can be reached. Dirty washing and the BSF shouldn't go together, right. -

That's not exactly the right story. -
I agree with you. It is beneficial to grade after every 4 heats, and possibly before heat 15 given there is spare time, but I have never been a fan of an interval. Many a time we have lost our momentum and been in fear of losing a meeting, as it gives the away team more time to work things out, whilst the home team usually knows the usual options in terms of the track and their bike settings. At Brough, there is plenty of spare in terms of medical personnel, track staff, etc to send someone in to get some cups for their colleagues. What annoys most fans is, after grading and stoppages for crashes, we still have an interval when everyone wants to just get on with it.

Who Will Be Diamonds Number One?

I was just going to post that to you in the Worky thread. -
The last time we switched back to the old 'favorite' night was in, i think 2001, and that was to accomodate Bjarne, who said he wanted to ride in Poland. He didn't, of course, and we then ran the new Gems in the CL on a Sunday in 2002, but in 2003 we returned back to Sunday racing, combining the PL and the CL meetings on Sunday afternoons. As has been said, Monday is not supported now as well as a Sunday, and we have even changed the start of racing several times, eventually settling for the present time of 6.30pm. Some people can make one day, and others prefer another day, it really is by trial and error to find the right day, and sometimes peoples week patterns change and they can then make the day that they couldn't. At one time there was only one day for Speedway at Newcastle, and that was a MONDAY, but things change and everyone has to move with the times to stand still. We did try it early, but in the summer we found that once a family was out for the day, they stayed out, and missed the Speedway. We tried 7.00pm but settled for 6.30pm to allow times for the kids to get home when it was a school day on the Monday.

It does not exist now, ruled apparently illegal.

Great attendance at last nights Diamonds Dinner Dance. I was told the numbers were up early doors, and so it proved with more tables than previous years. Every rider in attendance including Anton and Luddi, who had both flown is specially, which was great to see. As others have said, Lewis deservedly won the Rider of the season on the voting of those present, and the Supporters Club made a presentation to the most unusual incident in the year to Chris Scramm for his hairy bouncing off the second bend fence before grass tracking across the centre green and looking at meeting the other three riders coming around the forth bend, head on. Shades of Davey Meldrum many years ago, but Chris's was accidental. GRTMedia, or Bob Tasker, won the well coveted Lord Mayor's Award for great contribution to Newcastle Speedway during the year for is insistence, or persistence, in getting great coverage on local TV news bulletins. Good responses from all the riders who all genuinely expressed their pleasure at riding for Newcastle during the year and would like to return. Richie then advised that he was unlikely to be back except for special meetings and open meetings. He wants to try out Poland on Sundays and, as others have said, he gave us great excitement with his progress over the three years and we are pleased that he is showing ambition seeking bigger pastures abroad to further his career. Bit of a damper but fully understood and supported by all. Most of us had bought he would be going full-time EL anyway, but Poland is one step further on from that. As most will remember, the Supporters Club presented a cheque a few weeks ago of £2000 for the Air Fence Fund from our very successful Grand Draw in August. Well last night, unannounced, we advised that we had raised another £2000 from the proceeds of the Auction, held after our last meeting. Following from that, we had a special auction for a signed Cardiff race bib signed by the new British World Champion, Tai Woffinden, and that raised another £125 from a delighted bid winner. The fence has now been ordered, but the appeal will still continue to pay for the associated costs of the running and maintaining the air fence. After the serious business was done, the dancing and networking started, with both our Swedes showing their skills off with some wild unscripted and uncoordinated acrobatics. A canny night was had by all. He's made enough hints at it, but then so did Kenneth Hanson. I agree with ruff and chewy, that a balanced team with a lot of 7 pointers is the way to go, as really there are only about 4 top number 1's in Cook, Doyle, Barker and Richie and who is to say they won't be riding in the EL next year and possibly in other countries. Someone like Doyle is going to eat a lot of points up out of the proposed 42.5 limit.

You could PM Martin Mauger on this forum as he is/was pretty active regarding Hull.

..and young Havvy.

Possibly true. SKY ditched the Hockey EL some years ago and it then returned on SKY.

The biggest regret is the the councils H &S officers did not have the gumption to put a prohibition notice on just the middle section, and then issue 6 month notices on the others one at a time. There is very little wrong , and nothing unsafe, about the outside flanks steps. They are merely cracked, and in the fullness in time, would have opened up and then been dangerous. Once again an over reaction by the not so savvy H & S officers.

I heard last Sunday that the repairs could be starting in January, 2014. About time too, the loss of the steps in the stands doesn't effect the dogs of course, as folks who go are behind the glass.

Quite agree. Their(SKY) lack of contact does not bode well. -
Have you got a big one. :o

And there's me about to put on here, that it was probably down to you.

Terry Russell, on behalf of Go Speed and the BSPA, reached an agreement for another period, which has now ended this month.
