  1. I would think the tracks sales have less affect these days, as subscription has been plugged and also there is lot a lot of people receiving the online version..
  2. I read somewhere that the Championship is to be reduced to just one meeting for both home and away , and no cup meetings. I suppose the BSPA will have to wait to see how things pan out before they announce resume start date. No doubt if it goes on longer than current estimates, the BSPA will have to a cutoff date that if there is not enough meeting slots left then the season will not start.
  3. But given your first sentence, what would be the bottom figure for your sentence.
  4. Darren will bring more than that to the table. He is an ex rider who still has a runout occasionally, knows all the other referees, well acquainted with Newcastle as a club and will know most of the riders. I welcome him to the club, he's straight forward and a good guy.
  5. To be fair, I don't think he knows any better.
  6. Quite agree Screm. It would be such a shame for both Stuart and the public if this benefit meeting for him was not allowed to go ahead. These events are better at the front or the end of a season, as it is not so easy to get such a field once the serious stuff starts. I still think the field is good, and I know that even with both Newcastle and Redcar in full attendance the terraces are going to be full, and I would recommend getting there early. Stuart started with Newcastle as his brother Scott was a team member with the DIamonds 93/4. Stuart used to do second halves at Brough, but had a habit of getting the 4th bend wrong with some horrific crashes. To save him more injuries, we sent him to Edinburgh for awhile to regain his confidence, but alas we didn't open in 1995 and Stuart moved on and then his Hull/Coventry days started. In the mid 00's, Stuart was riding as a doubling up rider for us, and his 4th benditis struck again, when his bike lifted at full throttle coming out of the 4th bend taking David Ruud with him, and it looked really serious for both riders. Stuart's bike rode over the fence and smashed the dog rail and its electrics. Stuart was left slumped against the fence gate whilst David Ruud lay motionless against the kick boards. David eventually got up and walked away OK, and I believe he rode at Exeter the next night. Stuart unfortunately had an injury and had to go to hospital, proclaiming 'me bags burst'. I'll leave you to imagine which one that was. Miraculously he was OK otherwise, but the video of that crash was repeated many times and generally accepted as one of the most spectacular track crashes ever seen, and they both lived to ride another day. Robbo was always everyones favourite rider as he rode well for every club, and always gave his best. If he could have learnt to gate better he would have been a top rider, but then again we wouldn't have seen his tremendous battles from the back which he was famous for. Let's hope the meeting is allowed to go ahead and gives us all an opportunity to pay respects to Stuart who has to be one of the nicest guys in speedway. NB if anybody can remember the name of the other rider let me know, and i'll add it to the text . He was called David and I think he was Swedish.
  7. Nah. Put 500 on the Home straight and 500 on the back straight, and tell them not to mingle.
  8. They wont. James Wright has excelled at the Dirt Show at Kings Lynn, and will break the 4.00 average easy. Add in the expected increase of our two new 5 pointers, but remembering we are starting about 5 behind everyone else with our opening team. Midtable I think.
  9. The more you reply, the more you prove what a tool you really are.
  10. No, not so much last year due to a new promoter who's now gone, plus I have been very ill for most of it. Getting back to it now and back playing squash, and looking forward the new season under Rob. It was nice to see my Gems win the NJL league and of course the rapid progress that Archie and Danny are making on their 500's and of course see Josh making such a great start in the NL.
  11. Heard the Diamonds advert on Metro Radio this morning, and it was very good, to the point, all the info and likely I would say to make the possibility of people coming to our 90th anniversary meeting on the 29th real. Metro Radio are our Media partner, and they approached us given what was going on when Rob came in to save the speedway. The radio station is the biggest commercial station in the North East, so it's great to be partnered with them and good for the sport in the area.
  12. Beautiful Photographs of some real old timers and machinery.
  13. Yes, but that suggestion comes from an unreliable source above. Just ignore that one.
  14. I believe David used to travel with them like a roady for some considerable time, before retiring and then going to UNI.
  15. Have you tried the new website or the old website. The new one is Newcastle-Speedway.co.uk
  16. Doubt it as he is setting up his own building company and lives in the Midlands. Good choice in the future through.
  17. I think he has said he's not back this year.
  18. He has had experience at it. Team manager I mean.
  19. Very true AF. Since Peter, George and I set up the new Diamonds in 1997, Peter, Me, Darryl, Alan and Dalbers have made considerable financial inputs into the club. Sorry to see George go, as his speedway knowledge and his connections will be missed. I hope he enjoys his retirement, but I wonder what the situation is now with him fronting the BSPA shared events, a post he has only just been appointed to. We'll see shortly I think. Interesting that there has always been an English in Newcastle Speedway since 1961 when both George Snr, Joan and myself were members of the new Supporter's Club. Since then the English's have either represented the Supporters Club or been a Promoter of the Diamonds. That's a long time for anybody. I wish Rob well with his revamped Diamonds, and look forward to it being a big success.
  20. Not involved directly at Newcastle. Gave Rob advice with his business plan to keep the Diamonds going. Wouldn't be surprised if he pops in from time to time though.
