  1. Wrong. Both Rusty and his mate Clinton ? came over and stayed at Newcastle with current promoter Darryl Illingworth. We were looking for an 8 pointer at the time, but neither were going to be that so they rode second halfs at Newcastle and several other tracks. Brian Sands offered him a place at Glasgow and Clinton went home.
  2. There are already incentives this year to encourage teams to have NL teams. It's getting there.
  3. The current design has the bottom of the fence secure to the bottom of the fence with kickboards still utilised as additional support and stiffening. It is tied down now and possibly it wasn't in your days, in addition there now a plastic bung under the fence for the fence to sit on.
  4. Ah, he's harmless really, just someone trying to select a team for someone else. Mind you, if asked to select a winning team for Gus at Sunderland now that would stretch him to the full.
  5. Was he a Brit Wild Card like Auty was the other year. But Auty of course is from Yorkshire.
  6. In only your opinion. Manufacturers have examined the circumstances and adapted to the requirement. Given the fastenings I mentioned in my previous posting, it would be self explanatory as to how to fasten them to the mesh fence. The approach might be 'staggering and bordering on negligent' only to you, but you ignore the upgrading based on experience and the natural process of evolution. End OF.
  7. He may have declined the offer to be in the picks.
  8. If it was, it would be Roy Hodgson sitting next to George English.
  9. He wears a black belt, but don't know why you are calling him Dan, it's Ian.
  10. WE can't agree between ourselves, so what are they going to learn from us.
  11. Newcastle's has been ordered, paid for and is awaiting delivery, probably in the new Year. A target price for our fence was £20k, of which £4k was raised by the supporters club through a Summer Draw and and a last night auction night. Money is still being received and raised to cover the ongoing maintenance cost of the fence panels and the blowers.
  12. The new fence at Newcastle has straps over the top to the back of the fence, and held onto the existing mesh fence. Similarly, there is straps at the bottom, under the fence and the mesh fence, and again fastened to the original mesh fence. There is a substantial rubber kick board to cover the bottom edge of the fence, and behind that a solid rubber triangular bung to stop riders going under the fence. The original 16in wood kick boards are to remain to give extra support and stiffness to the fence. All gaps between the panel will be covered by a wide velcro strip to maintain the panels adjacent to each other.
  13. Quite agree, and can't really defend Matt if he has. Nothing pisses you off more than a fellow promoter who announces one of your new riders, instead of allowing you the privilege of announcing it according to your team building. Usually the same ones that advise their fans of the AGM matters, before the official BSPA statement has been released. Hence the reason why an incomplete statement is made in order to be first out.
  14. So they are compulsory. Thought so. In the absence of the independent testing data, let's try this. Which would you prefer. Being pushed headfirst into a solid or mesh fence, or an air fence. You decide.(said in a Sunderland accent).
  15. Agreed. When you see a start, the 30 riders have to funnel into a gap for the first bend, which is maybe only about 4 bike widths wide.
  16. Of course the year was 2009. Think the introduction meeting might have been earlier in the season and then the official Anniversary meeting held in May.
  17. My main concern with threads like this is that the OP is usually telling say newcomers he is trying to get them to come to the sport, but telling them the bad bits that he personally doesn't like or agree with. It seems like an opportunity to pass on your prejudices to the newcomer, who probably decides in hindsight that "if he doesn't like it why should I try it". Opinion is opinion, but let's not kid anybody that explaining what you don't like about a sport, doesn't sound convincing that you were really trying to get them to come to speedway. If you have a 'hobby horse', and keep going on about it, your friends probably say they agree just to shut you up. If I take someone to football, I don't even mention the offside rule, what would be the point, and more importantly, my objectives.
  18. Except that that comment is about 4 years out of date. Riders and the refs give our track the thumbs up for preparation, and that is fact.
  19. Agree. I saw a large score, something like 15 points the first meeting I had seen his name in, and I have followed his progress ever since. It is a good start for MX lads as they adapt very well, the same way the grassers used to when grassing was a bit bigger. We certainly got a top rider and person when we got Kerr, just hope that Rose has a similar start as Kerr had. There is always something good about seeing good riders go from unknowns to top riders while they ride for you, even better if they are assets of course. We once had a young kid called Nicki you know.
  20. It always has in the past Baggy. A loan deal means you own that rider for the duration of the deal, either 28days or 1 year. If you them loan the rider to say an NL team, or on to another PL team, the asset owner has no say in it and doesn't get any of the loan deal payments.
  21. Rearrange our fixtures that clash. Be upset mind, if KL do a rearranged fixture which clashes, and still get priority over the team who signed them first. We shall see.
  22. I asked a guy that I know, who has never seen football, if he wanted to go to the match to see the TOON play. He agreed, but said he was puzzled about this Offside second phase rule.
  23. Rather than having the constant smoke and mirrors perception, they all agree to do a fair and agreed procedure to try and make it all fair and above board, but some like you still chunter on.
