Newcastle Diamonds Vs Scunthorpe Scorpions 20/04/14
Tsunami replied to DIAMONDS's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Sounds like a quickly cobbled statement to save a heavy ban. Has a ring of Richie Hall's thoughtful apology about it. Let's not kid ourselves, this is nowhere near the truth. Everyone in the stadium could see him lose out with the elbowing, ran around the second corner, calmly get off his bike, repositions it, unclothes his head and gesticulates to the ref. Every possibility that it was caught on film and will be on the DVD from GTR Media at a very reasonable price from your own track store. -

..and that is bollocks. IF you had been there, you would have seen him stop, get off, adjust the position of the bike on, take his helmet and goggles off and gesticulate up to the referee. He coasted to a stop so there was nothing jammed. Now go to bed. -

It was NOT due to the track. Had nothing to do with it The problem was twofold in that certain Scunny riders were prone to elbowing opponents to get through, and the new phenomena of Auty gating but deciding to take off any home rider was challenged him for the lead. I think I have heard something recent about the latter. Now the big issue. After another first run of heat 10 due to the above, in the second rerun Tommy decided he had come off worse and, due to the ref not playing the game and stopping the heat for Tommy to have another go, he cowardly placed his bike on the track, on the racing line coming out of the second bend, remonstrating with the ref. If it had not been for the quick thinking of the flag marshals, and then the red lights, a major collision could have occurred. Yes he was correctly excluded from the rerun, but surely he should a, have been slung out of the meeting, and b, should be reported for his action and receive a sizeable ban for dangerous behaviour. Many years ago a World Champion left his bike on a straight and got a sizeable ban. Tommy decided to leave it in the worst position he could , on the racing line coming out of the second bend, when riders would be on full power. It obviously is against the SCB rules, but it was a crass, cowardly and stupid action to bring potential danger to his fellow competitors. That is unforgivable and shows no respect by risking fellow riders in his protest. I honestly hope that Jorgensen has been reported for it, i heard he had been fined, and that he receives a massive ban from UK speedway. Speedway is a dangerous enough sport without nutters within showing no respect to their fellow riders. Quite frankly I was amazed he was still riding in a heat 2 races later. It would be interesting to hear the view of the Scunny Team manager of the events given that Dave Peet used to be a referee. Onto the meeting. Some would say a dead rubber with nothing to ride for, but they could not have been more wrong. In between the many reruns there was some exciting racing from both sides, with a home defeat a possibility with the poor returns of Christian and especially Kerr. Fortunately our fortunes changed with the heat 10 calamity, followed by a 4-2 and 2 5-1's to make the win pretty safe. Auty has learnt to gate , and had a decent meeting, Howe useful as normal, and Douglas showing some tigerish form. For the Diamonds, can I say that Ludde didn't let us down with a cracking performance of power, aggression, and amazing speed to justify his correct title of the DIAMONDS NO 1. Add to that brilliant passing and riding from Robbo and Ant, and with the other contributions saw out a comfortable win to reach 49 points. Bloody freezing night, but some canny racing on a grippy track, which needed regular grading. Produced great racing, just the same as Scunny fans say about their deep track, but it was riders that won not the track. Now onto the Premier League. -

Not true. -
You have been in denial since Xmas that he was our number 1, due to the highest average being number 1. It is only in the last few weeks you have agreed with me, and others, being technically right about the qualification for a number 1, but you seem to lapse from that on a regular basis, hence the reason why others saying "boring, give it a rest". Not being pedantic are you.

Many thanks for that. I wasn't sure if it was a total ban, or only a ban from the important areas. Looking at some suits, in particularly Nicki P, he seems to have Kevlar with ribbed leather, particularly on the shoulders. Can see that working with Leather patches on knees, elbows and side hips, to give extra protection to the slide areas, where burn and abrasions are more likely to occur. -

I thought there was or had been a move to ban all nylon from suits. -

As the mods seem to have cleared out the original thread. Malcolm Hogg of SFR, offered a free personalised kevlar suit to the winner of the Supporters Club raffle, with tickets available for £5 a shot. The draw for the winner was held after heat 15 last Sunday night, and the winner was David Mason, a long time Newcastle Speedway fan. Congratulations David on your win, and thanks to all those who partook in the draw, which raised a sizeable sum for our new air fence. -

To be fair to Matejs, who I have regularly criticised in the past, I have seen him in Saturday Redcar practice sessions, in two second halfs at Brough and one at Redcar, so he is definately desperate to get some track time in. He can look really classy on track, so I hope he gets back to where he was a few years ago. -
A rider has to be an asset of somebody to be able to get the ride. They are no longer able to own their own contract like uptu the mid 90's. A rider may receive some sign on fee, or goods such as bikes, parts, kevlars, depending on their position and ability. By being attached to a club they have a contact to let them know any relevant news, and for them to act as a contact for availability for meetings and guest bookings.

Easy win by the Diamonds last night against poorest opposition. Expected more but disappointed there wasn't more fight from most of the Tigers. Simon has never liked Brough, Leigh should have performed better with his previous tracks being similar, very subdued Adam, Bates not on the pace last night, and sad to see the previous highly rated Taylor floundering during his comeback. Only Andre seemed up for it and produces his usual dashes and had 2 deserved wins. Our number 1 was a number 1 , and all the team had good nights with 3 maximum riders, who all had to be on the pace to with into get into the lead, or maintain their leads. Chris down a bit, and Rose looking quite hairy coming out of the bends, presumably trying to read the new banners on the fence. Phew. Anton still not there, and it was noticeable that Sean Wilson, both Anton's and Ludde's tuner was in attendance. He is getting there, but has still not achieved his form, but I am sure it will come. On Thursday at Redcar he was lifting at the start, and lost ground as he put the front wheel down. Wonder if his gating is causing him probs, rather than his general riding. Point made on this thread that you can't make judgements against a poor away team. Let's put it this way, if they hadn't performed well there would have been plenty on their backs for not performing. So when the do perform well, and would have even if the opposition had been better, I think it is just right that we recognise their return to form. I think the early blip is over, and we are back to a determined team who are up to speed again. Great to see it. -

Not sure about the hammering, but would like to see some decent performances to show that everyone is back on form. There are signs from when these riders are riding for their other team, or guests, so it's there, just needs to do it for the Diamonds now. For travelling fans, sunny but cold with a little breeze. No threat of rain for about the next week, so it will be dry with a great track. For the helpers, sheets are going down at 3.00pm as usual. -
Probably Josh Embleton's bike.

New Wage Structure For Speedway Riders
Tsunami replied to manchesterpaul's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
When he first arrived he had no bikes. Together with his mechanical Rolf, he bought up decent second hand bikes and then made up the best couple of bikes he could afford, and I believe slept in his flat nosed Bedford van, cadging rides anywhere he could. He worked harder at getting established than anyone else and wanted to be the best. When the Esso first came on the scene, teammate Alan Butterfield was the first to have one, Mauger would ride at least 1 ride in a team match on it to get used to it. Unfortunately his scores were often something like 3303, till he got more used to it and then he stuck with the new bike. -
