  1. At meetings like the AGM's, I always found Mike to be quite quiet and let Matt always take the lead. Certainly from his interview he has been a very ardent fan doing every job imaginable.
  2. Oxford junior Matt Davis I think rode for Horspath. Talked a few times with him at Cardiff, canny lad. Sandy Feltham's son in law.
  3. I think you are right about the engine going away to be tested as I have heard of riders complaining about the waiting for them to be returned. Certainly I saw them being removed from the frame. Testing carbs can be carried out in the frame and machine examiners are issued with an appropriate circular gauge for testing.
  4. I've known of riders suddenly straining their backs getting their bike out of their van when it was known the tester was around. Also engine tests being carried out after the meeting and a 'suspect' doesn't have a good night. All random of course. One night a well known rider rode very average at Brough, and whilst having his engine checked over by the late Will Hunter, technical expert and ex ref, the rider just smirked as if he knew he wouldn't be caught. Who says some riders are not told, and it was not random I can assure you. Our home rider, knew that and why it was happening, was livid as his tuned engine was tampered with on the inspection and as he said, "It's all very well trying to catch him, but now I have to have a full retune and all I get it is a standard £400 fee".
  5. Wish I could have been there. I had tickets which i'll get a refund for. I am hearing that the event was filmed and will be available this week..
  6. Many thanks for that BOB. Yes he's a tidy rider, and I told him to ride it like Brough, but with much shorter straights. Amazing that he has completed two meetings since a horror crash on Saturday at Edinburgh. Following Harry Mc he decide to take him, but Harry locked up and Archie clipped his back wheel and he hurtled into the airfence square on. He fortunately tried to jump off the back, otherwise it could have been really serious. Very mature kid at 15, he's at least a year behind the rest of the Lions Select team. Look out for his progress. Hope you are well, and it would have been nice to come down with Archie, and see you at the same time. Maybe next year, take care.
  7. Hi Bob. Can you let me know how Archie rode. Personal interest in him.
  8. Kent will be exempt from that with the stadium owner being a part owner of the speedway. True for the rest but.
  9. Probably get a game of golf on their course.
  10. Except it's nothing do with the Blond bomber. All the 7 Northern councils got together because of the case ratio, instead of being about 20 with one at 110 and all the others about 70. THEY proposed a list of restrictions on this area for 2 weeks, and ran it though the government. Hancock made the statement in the House but dissallowed some of the restrictions but sanctioned the others. The COUNCILS then imposed the restrictions in an attempt to get the local population to obey the restrictions so they stopped spreading and catching the virus. As it happens, there are other areas who also need to bring in their restriction for the same reason. Blame the yobs, not Boris or the Government.
  11. Bloody hell, I didn't know the coppers pinched you off-road.
  12. Another round of the 2020 British Youth Championship is to be staged at Edinburgh on Saturday 19th September, and starting at 4.00pm. Sadly it will be behind closed doors.
  13. That was the objective in the first place, but given the future in Dogs is not that secure, I don't think the Dogs will go anywhere. They will just close down.
  14. THJ I am aware of the long term plan to swop the classification of 'only Sport' for Brough Park, being swopped with the ex Parsons land in order to build houses on the Brough Park site.
  15. Yes, that was a new plan from Boris called " Build, Build, Build' which would allow restrictions to be ripped up to rejuvenate the Building sector.
  16. THJ I heard at the weekend that the Seimen's site I referred to earlier, was originally the chosen site for a new St James Park. As that has not happened, and unlike to happen, it would definately be classed as industrial land, and I don't think it is contaminated land either. Being on the doorstep of our present track, surely this land must be the first location to be checked out. Have you any 'heads up' John of availability and the possibility of converting it to a speedway raceway. The area has always been our home, and i'm not sure how many people would continue to attend if it was in some far flung new location. The Seimen's site is actually two sites split by Shields Road. What about the chances of getting the new track alongside the Metro line, with the Chillingham Road Metro station on our doorstep. Here's hoping.
  17. Yes. The 3rd and 4th bends were much lower in the early days, to the point riders virtually slid across the track because of the adverse camber. You can see from the earth banking outside the fence there, how much it had to be built up. I believe Rob bought up the contents of a quarry over the hill ages ago, and the 'shale' was built up in the middle of the car park for sometime. I believe he has used a different shale for a while now, and with the heavy watering seeped in, it made for a great surface, which only needed a short topup mid meeting to keep it like that. Great to see the lack of dust in the air. Thoroughly good combative meeting from two committed sides, but I wondered why Archie wasn't in heat 15 instead of Simon.
  18. Directly across from the exit out of Brough Park, on the other side of the Fossway.
  19. The ex Seimens land on the opposite side of the Fossway, would be the ideal alternative if it was big enough to build a decent track.
  20. Well they got it wrong. Switch the percentages around and you might be more accurate.
  21. Tony was always developing equipment usually based on agriculture machine equipment. He was an engineer that worked on farming equipment as a living. He used to try things out at Newcastle such as fine sprayers behind a tractor instead go water dripping down, spraying equipment with the long arms out. He wasn't for deep lumpy tracks, but smooth tracks moist on the top, from a good and regular watering. Did the same for Hull and Worky and Redcar.
  22. Your understanding is wrong. Tell it to stop making stupid things up.
