  1. The difficulty with captains telling the promotion how they want the track, is that it can become very much a one man decision, usually in their favour. When Glyn Taylor was at Redcar, the track had to be according to Havvy jnr, and not how Glyn and quite number of fellow riders. This was the definite view of most fans at Redcar at the time. Interesting comments about Watt. When he was with us, he couldn't cope with a deep track. We turned up at Exeter with a good opportunity to get a win in 2002, and his only comment walking across the centre green was "well, i'll do nothing on this", and he proceeded to give everyone a 30 metre lead before attempting to follow them. Same story again at Stoke when we needed to win for consecutive PL league titles. We lost.
  2. Came to Britain in the second season and rode in an Open meeting at Redcar and did very well, trying to get noticed. He signed for Worky, even though we thought we had him. He was in the same era as Kenni L and Rene B.
  3. I hear what you say but DEAN opposes anything from the BSPA and the SCB introduce, even when it greatly assists riders whose point of view he seems to be expressing. Look through previous posts and the theme of fleecing is very obvious. BTW, Do you think promoters make money out of speedway.
  4. You won't have it will you. THERE ARE VERY FEW PROMOTERS THAT MAKE MONEY OUT OF SPEEDWAY. Do your own sums. You're very much 'chip on the shoulder' DEAN. Everybody is NOT out to fleece you.
  5. Just Dean's obsession that promoters make money from speedway. Heaven forbid. BTW. Phillips accountancy business is a different business to BRUM speedway.
  6. The original insinuation was that it was a cash industry. It has been in the past, but a lot of clubs pay electronically, as they also do for normal goods and services. The usual brown envelopes with money in are only mentioned on here. We give our riders brown envelopes after a meeting, but they include payslips and their meeting booking forms for the next couple of weeks. As you say you can work out roughly ins and outs of a club and understand that someone, either the promotions or the sponsors, must be making up the difference. The BSPA don't allow rollover debts with them or other clubs. Can't pay your debts at say AGM time, and you don't start the next year. Still talking about promoters pocketing large cash sums from speedway by some, just shows their ignorance or their prediduces. What happens at say GP level might be different.
  7. This all came about when the UKV&Is called the BSPA to a meeting mid season, to show them a 2 year file of unlicenced riding in second halfs by young OZ riders contrary to their visitors visa. That's what opened it all up. Someone inUKV&I is very up to speedway practices, and complied a register of illegal rides, even when there was no payment and sometimes no crowd. It is still illegal.
  8. Seems like others agree about work permit dross in lower football leagues. Except you of course. (See Arson's link below.) Of course in any selection process there is a risk of failure by the individual, but again as HA says "they are usually good value".
  9. I agree with that, but I think you totally underestimate what is happening around the country involving youth development. The UK was always the main training ground for the riders wanting to be top of their trade. Fans wanted to see these top riders, so they were signed, Remember Nicki, Bjarne and KB. I read something a few years ago that the current level of new motorcycle road licences is down by about 80% in recent years. No road bikes, no scrambling, little grass tracking. Society has changed, even in football the number of kids playing football across the board is way down. Kids played everywhere at one time as you know, but they didn't have the many things that the kids can do now. The activities of youths is changing so speedway has to bid for their attention. In Denmark it is almost built into local society, which would never work or get supported in this country. It may be too late but there is still a lot happening. Eastbourne and Birmingham going NL is actually a good thing. I know. It's a bit like entering OZ in that you have to demonstrate you have funds or have a mentor to support you to a given level. Watch too much Border Control.
  10. I'm going over to the Elite League Thread' shortly. You coming. There is still foreign crap in the lower leagues legally.
  11. Why should I have to give names. As cresent girl says about EL Ice Hockey, a lot of sportspeople who are in Football and Ice Hockey are NOT World class by any imagination/qualification. In Ice Hockey, the run of the mill US and Canadian players are only good standard playing over here. Even Football players qualifying for qualification to play over here, anybody who is player in the minor FL divisions are of dubious standard, and is the reason why there is currently discussions going on about the %age of foreign players playing in our professional leagues. It's only a few months ago where is was discussed on a thread on the BSF. Are you really that blinkered that you think the lower standard players are bringing anything to our game except taking cash out of it.
  12. Thing is though CC, it's not an immigration thing as HA and others would have you believe. With sportsmen, it is the right to play their sport to add quality to the sport. Footballers like Diego Costa, Suarez, Courtois, Alexis Sanchez, etc, are not emigrating into the UK, and in the same way, speedway riders should be treat in the same way, and accepted as being transient sportsmen not immigrants.
  13. I note pugwash's naughty post is 'like'd by 'Bear_Bottom'. Oooh Missus.
  14. If you read the post by HalifaxTiger, he is being told it is only the individual members that have not complied, not THE BSPA.
  15. So it's OK to allow in(note not emigrate) third rate footballers from all over the world, and employ them even down into League 2. I, and no one else, is saying Speedway should get special privileges, but sport in general is different. given who is allowed to play in other sports. Note again, this is NOT immigration, but allowing migrants? in to support and enrich a sport.
  16. Scraping the barrel with some there. If they were to be signed in normal circumstances, you would be the first to make the same comment. As I have already said, just because a rider wants to ride does't mean promotions would want to sign them due to other issues.
  17. I can agree with that, but if we don't have a decent Brit to replace him, Promotions are then going to employ under achievers like Campton. I have seen Campton ride regularly, and in some races can be very good. Sometimes it can be worthwhile to continue with him for a period of time, in case he suddenly clicks. As I said, if he is very bad why would a promotion sign him if a cheaper Brit wanted the ride.
  18. Wouldn't you, for say a drink driving charge or a parking ticket. Funny how everyone is suddenly above this sort of thing.
  19. We are looking for 22 not 1. The reason why we have D/U and D/D is there is a shortage of British riders, hence the vast efforts that is going on at youth level to solve the problem. Although there will be the odd exception, if a Brit was good enough, and didn't have any baggage, he would get a team place generally. Full employment of ALL British riders is not practical, because employers would not want to sign certain riders for very good and obvious reasons. Adam is, I agree, a bit unlucky this year, but when the season starts I am sure he will get a place, father permitting of course.
  20. Yes, but only if we had enough riders to go around, which we haven't. That is one of the reasons why we have D/U arrangements, so employing migrants like Yanks and Aussies does not displace a Brit. Bollocks. Far too broad a conclusion to reach, but noticeable that you want to chastise a certain poster. Childish behaviour. You can, and the country needs, to control immigration so that we only allow in those we need and want. Importing sportsman at a certain ability is entirely a different situation and you know that.
  21. Pleased about that, but it will not appease the usual suspects who have already he'd their day on this, and other threads. Normal day then.
