  1. Great a rider and personality Greg is, winning World Titles at 44 year old, against all the top young riders hardly makes Speedway an attractive sport for the risky youths that follow Red Bull type sports. If kids like Emil, Darcy, Tai, etc, could win it in the future, the sport would live up to the hype of it being a risk sport in the eyes of the impressionable youth.
  2. Why would they think they were acceptable. Surely that would be part of the documentation, and they can't say the rider meets the requirements when he doesn't. Unless of course if there is an injury exemption being asked.
  3. A lovely man who used to seek me out at Somerset in their early days, to talk and give advice to any young rider we had in our team. He would pass tips on to me for settings and ignition settings, if some one was struggling. RIP Lew
  4. The new measures won't stop the decent prospects and established riders, who qualify by nature of their standing in the Aussie State Championships. Those who will miss out are the lesser lights who are allowed in before, given the shortage of British riders. More emphasis now of training more of our own riders. Doesn't look that good for US riders, as how are they going to demonstrate their ability without a decent level of home racing.
  5. Are you on the p**s again, my friend.
  6. Unfortunately, it's a typical jim the knacker type response.
  7. Certainly is. He often posts his test results from meetings, and guess what, 0 alcohol. Model pro.
  8. It fundamentally alters the setup of his engine. In about 1997, there was a questionnaire for all riders and they were asked if they wished to see programmable ignition systems, which allowed the setup to be change during racing. Mainly on a cost basis, the use of the programmers were unwanted and therefore banned. There has been several instances of riders having concealed switches, such as Smolinski's, using them in test rides and some, like the Exeter rider I will not name, continued to use it. He had a reputation as a swift gater. Mauger tells you in his book that he recorded the performance of all referee's, knowing who were soft touches, and who were not. He knew their characteristics with the start mechanisms, and it certainly paid off for him. Starting at Newcastle, we knew he was a great gater anyway, he just mastered the mind games as well. Agree about Hancock, he has a great skill, which he can repeat in just about every race at world level.
  9. A certain Exeter rider had one over 12 years ago, but apparently I know fukc all about technical things. Funny how a spotted it, reported it to the ref, who stopped him using it and his score went 33300. Quite a few actually, having about 9 bikes of my own, most of which i have put together from scratch..... enough to get by, I ask when I don't.....Bullrubbish at it's best
  10. Just NOT true. Some were made in Denmark as well as Poland, but were in a softer alloy, and some with thinner wall thickness's. Some folks just have a Briggo fixation. There are about 3 makes of dirt deflector that are approved for speedway, but practically everyone uses Briggo ones as they are simply the best(expensive yes.).
  11. But very rarely achieved. It will stop a lot of riders even applying in future, unlike past years.
  12. Must admit that one set of criteria that was posted on here, was very severe, and only the real top notch established riders would qualify. It didn't seem to cater for 'promising riders who might make it'.
  13. But I thought that the applications had been granted by the UKIV dept, because they had met the full criteria. If they did, that would make them just as negligent as the offending promoters.
  14. But if they have already got visas, surely the same criteria will admit them again. It's the Sponsorship licences that are being reviewed, prior to the reapplication for replacement visas.
  15. I understand the system probably as well as you, thanks to Alan Jones. Just think the delay is for a specific reason which we don't known at the moment. Anyway, not long to go then we will know.
  16. i think Shell put a Tiger in your Tank about the same time.
  17. Can't see how you can come to that conclusion. Grand Central and others have their own view on this, it's just I expect the same privilege. Right or wrong.
  18. Known quite a few riders who continued to ride, although it was obvious things were not quite right. Usually had a stare or a glazed look which was quite worrying that they were still riding.
  19. Whooops, and there's me thinking this was a discussion forum where posters can put alternative views. You and I don't have the answers to the three questions that I posed. They should be simple questions to answer, so if they haven't been answered, and have not made a decision in 4 months, there presumably is a major reason why not. I'd guess something procedural and there is a challenge. I don't know, and neither do you. So what is that problem. Hopefully we will hear tomorrow, or in subsequent days. 'Very strange bedfellows' Yikes, we hardly know each other.
  20. But what would you do if the senior organisation of the sport, is going to take your livelihood away from you, when/if there is evidence that would possibly not be legal in a proper Court of Law. A desperate decision needs desperate reaction. We have to, but it's taking rather a long time to simply decide a, was the machine calibration correct, b, was the person taking the test legally allowed to take the test given the FIM/GP rules, c, was the result positive or negative. Three questions , none of them very hard to answer, so why no decision. As you say, we have to wait, and it's going to be very interesting.
  21. I like the way Starman thinks I am agreeing with him, when I think he is agreeing with me.
  22. Problem is that the rules state with reference to a decision being made being 'final and enforceable', but what if before that happens a charge against the FIM is made, which was and could be upheld in a Court of Law. Are we saying the FIM will plod along and risk a compensation claim, if they know that the counter charge is valid and proveable.
  23. I think everyone knows that w1, but it's UK's chance to pontificate.
  24. Agreed. Sadly there are too many who like to score cheap easy points against those in speedway basically doing it for the love of the sport. Too many crits who do nowt.
