  1. The reason why I remember you is that you said you were coming, you stood behind me in a Witches jacket and well, you lived up to your name. I will be in a colourful Diamonds jacket and introduce myself, beside the office along from the pits.
  2. Ha Ha It is actually 5 because Brian Andersson's first club was the Diamonds as U21 W Champ in early 90's.
  3. But I thought that the deal with the new owner was for Len to look after things, the team and the track prep.
  4. I did. I called off the training school so that Jonny could work on the track without us being there, so the training school lads and track staff did get a lie in instead.
  5. Wonder if the regs have been forced on them in line with UKIC demands.
  6. Used to do that, but you get mass complaints about it being a second hand proggie. It is a good way of saving on losses, but this year the programme is reprinted with new content from George in his column, etc.
  7. If a meeting is called off near the start time, amongst the cost that the home promotion incur are :- - Redundant programmes - travel costs of both teams - Stadium rent - Referees travel costs - Medical facilities In addition you might not receive the sponsors fee for the evening, if they decide not to switch to a later meeting. If you call it off well before the riders and the ref travels, you might get away with a reduced stadium rent and the cost of the unsold programmes. Hope that helps.
  8. Understand your point Keith, but a lot of thought went into the decision. As you say about rainoffs, another one early in the season is not desirable for anyone, so they are not going to make this decision at the drop of a hat. They had been taking water off for 2 hours, and the forecasts were wavering between the rain finishing either at 2.00 or 5.00. I have been monitoring the same 4 sites, and the situation was not stable. The sun was appearing later and later with very little wind, so there was not going to be a drying effect. I walked the track, and even the outside track was difficult to walk on so a lot of work would have been need if it could have been saved. It was decided by a guy who we all understand is an expert with our track, Jonny, and he said he couldn't get it on in and it was agreed by George. We knew straight away the moment the rain stopped, there would be calls that it could have been put on but believe me, it couldn't.
  9. MEETING OFF. Just left the track and it is very soft, despite two hours of pumping water off. Forecast has changed again with rain extending more to teatime so meeting has been cancelled. No date arranged for replacement meeting as dates are getting scarce with our record this year of 3 meetings on and 3 meetings now rained off. Can't race tomorrow of course because Scunny have their own meeting tomorrow. See you all next week.
  10. Possibly put the two minutes 45 days, back on.
  11. Honda had won World Championships in every category of motorcycling. MIck Grant, who grew up with Eric, wanted to complete the World Championship haul from his position as technical director of Honda. At the time it fitted speedway's need to try a bog standard engine to move the sport on, but it was not liked or capable of replacing the two sprint engines already in use.
  12. That happened when Doodson took over the contract previously operated by George Burrows Insurance. Their analysis showed that there was a Southern based group of riders fiddling the insurance by getting injured in very late meetings in the season. As you state, that entitled them to be officially injured during the winter period, when in fact they were usually in full time employment out of season. So it looks like they started the rot, and fellow riders don't get their top up insurance anymore.
  13. You raising this matter up, sums you up. Tai's success is British success.
  14. No, it was a MotoX engine, 650cc or 450cc I think, that was considered a possibility to use as a standard engine for speedway. It was tested in meetings in 1998(Newcastle was one), and it proved heavy, did not have the power for sprint, and was more suited to a large track without the need of lock up on entry. Still had a gearbox in, but was never a straight forward exchange engine for a JAWA/GM.
  15. If it is a broken collar bone, as first reported, that injury is usually considered a three week absence injury. 6 for the rest of us but 3 for riders, especially if they have it plated and lazer treatment.
  16. From what I understand, the tinted goggles work fine when in front, but don't improve things when you are behind and in shadow. In terms of buildings, could the difference now be the removal of the old kennels from the forth bend. That's the only thing that has changed in that area.
  17. The 2 promotions used to rate the referee in previous years, but I believe the SCB stopped that a few years ago. Pity .
  18. But he is right Ian. And remember, they take ages to polish their balls by rubbing it in their crotch. Women and children watching
