  1. True, as you can't 'drop' the fence, it has to be removed so the doggie punters can see their little legs. FACT. That's the reason why we dish the track out to get banking, instead of doing what everyone else does and raise the corners. This of course means more chance of water laying on the inside line. Another point with the resistance of bags is the grade of material that the panel is made of. Peterborough's fence seemed very flappy on Sunday, and observers did say the bag was torn easily. We were given a choice of 13 grades of thickness of material, and agreed and elected to use a mid grade which is thicker than most. It's also why we run the fence with a bit less inflation. Doesn't tear easily, and no riders bouncing back onto the track into the path of the following riders.
  2. A lot more expensive, but I think easier to repair during a meeting. I remember Wethers crash on TV early last year. Not nice, but he was OK.
  3. It's not really practical. Some tracks have to remove their fences totally after each meeting, Lakeside, Ipswich, Sheffield, Eastbourne, etc. How would you get rid of the water being that heavy and the track curator would not want that amount of water, if it got absorbed into the track on the corners after each meeting. That would increase the manpower required and make it very messy for them to work with, remember these fences often have to be removed after a meeting when it could be dark and late, say 10,30pm. Other tracks that are allowed to hang their fences all week, or are dropped like Newcastle, would cause a lot of strain in the upper fastenings or/and be very damaging over time and very smelly with the stagnant water. Good idea from barncooseboy, but not really practical.
  4. The fence at Newcastle cannot rear up and expose the support fence, as there are 4 straps on each panel attached the bottom of the fence which go under the kickboard attached to the bottom of the wire fence, and the straps are clipped up the back of the fence with clips called carabinos ?. The fence will only distort at the bottom, but not lift. Both Ludde and Kerr have been under the fence, pushing the rubber skirt underneath, but because they can only go under the width of the fence, and that i run the fence quite soft with inflation, a rider is not really trapped, and is quite easily extracted. Another point that is being discussed, is was it a fault that the pit gate opened with Lewis's crash. In my opinion it was not a fault, but an advantage, as if he had hit the pits gate that was moving backwards, that would be considerable softer that a fixed solid unforgiving wooden structure. in his case he may have hit the solid gate post, and the gate was pushed open by the force of the bike.
  5. Quite agree. As well as the Diamonds meeting against Worky, which should be close, there will be wrist bands for Lewis fund @ £5, opportunity to pay for or buy tickets for the River Tyne Cruise on Fri 11th September, followed up with Northern Junior League meeting between the Gems and the Meteors of Worky. Get ya sel there.
  6. Josh was not to blame as it was a pure racing accident. Kerr had regained his position going into the third bend and turned toward an inner line. Josh was going faster and ran up the bike of Kerr which catapulted both toward the air fences. Josh got off his bike but it was believed that Lewis followed his own bike into the airfence bursting open the pit gate. Prayers for Lewis and a fairly quiet bus on the way home. Scrapped the bus sweep with all the monies going to the Air ambulance organisation. Let's hope we get better news soon. Reported on the SCB that Lewis is now in an induced coma.
  7. Josh looked a broken man as Debby led him back to his van. Many riders visible shaken by the accident and Kerrs situation
  8. I was, but you brought in the red herring of 'should have done this earlier'. It doesn't follow that cos other teams are signing riders that we must have been able to find one as well. Some of the recent signings have been for much higher average riders and even Castania has been available for awhile, and still only go a ride this late in the season. As you say promoting isn't easy, everyone else knows all the answers. shame that. There is never a correct time or formula for getting rid of a poor performing rider, it all depends. Can the team carry a rider who will come good, his injuries healing, a rider available to replace him, the demands of such a rider, your race night not acceptable to him, doesn't like your track, etc. Not easy, but if you keep the rider you are wrong for being too loyal, and if you get rid of them you can guarantee he will do 'better' in his next team and you got it wrong again. Critics are never wrong BTW.
  9. So nobody you can think of then at the moment. Months go it could have ben suggested that Rose would not improve and possibly leave him out, especially as he wasn't scoring at EL level either. But they stuck with him and came good before his unfortunate crash. Or could it have been Simon who has recently come on a ton in recent meetings. Or could it have been Christian who might have got his form back, but for his crash. Or could it have been Kerr who is a shadow this year of what we expected him to be this year. Or could have been Anton...... Easy game this promoter lark innit. Without knowing what was the reason, I see he has said sorry on Facebook(in a post to Steve Park) for not riding tonight. Did I not read he had gone back to Denmark a couple of weeks to rest up.
  10. It's vicious I grant you that, most critics on here are finished with speedway anyway, but continue to dig the knife it. Telling others in the sport to spend more money, and disagreeing with every decision does make one wonder how good a fan they were when they did attended. Most of them have issues.
  11. No, but as HadrianDog and TWK say, they are trying to track a team that we can afford, given we are out of the reckoning for the playoffs and more added meetings. I find it amazing that those who don't go to our speedway, always know the promotion have got it wrong again.
  12. Quite agree and Brough has had it's full share down the line, but the %age of them at Redcar was way above the norm. Interestingly the problem now is not as great as it was, and some of the 'names' either don't go or just turn up for an occasional rant. If that leads to a lesser crowd, well there is always a good side to things.
  13. Oh Dear. It that the best defence you can come back, old school.
  14. Because you advised jenga "you think you are being very smart and witty",(the clue being bolded to bring it to attention), and I then I compared your quote with your 'top' poster on here, who had previously tried to be just that. Why is jenga wrong, but Crumpy acceptable.
  15. You really are a k**b at times Ray. ch 958 is trying help you out by reminding you of the laws regarding defamation of character, and at the same time you are assuming, without facts, he is a supporter of Cradley Heath, which he is decidedly not. Not bad, 2 own goals in one post.
  16. Well, Crumpy thinks it works for him. Very disappointed that Crumpy is not gracing us with his presence on Sunday at the PL 4's. Was interested to see what an EL snob looked like, but I suppose the quality of the PL racing on such an outstanding track will make up for it. As to my 'self proclaimed success story', well you have to have before you can do it. Pity about Sunday though.
  17. And we didn't get a guest for Ludde in that famous away win at Berwick, which was televised a couple of years ago on a Tuesday night.
  18. Hence the reason why I said "associates with the 'fans' ,,,,"
  19. About 1998, I talked with Jim Lynch about Newcastle using his young riders on loan at Newcastle, just before they went into the EL. Jim said "**** ***** is 16 going on 15, ***** ***** is 17 going on 18, and David Howe is 17 going on 30. You can't have him". Great respect for a youngster even at that age. Followed his career with interest since, and he could have been so much better but for his injuries. Memories of a couple of years ago David scoring a 15 max whilst guesting for us at home, and i think it was the easiest maximum I have seen. He was just so good that night, and went on to be our regular guest after that. If only!!!!!
  20. And also the 'haters', who since seem to have now formed a protest group on any thread. It was the many 'haters' that continued the thread, not the other way around.
