I totally agree with your assessment of last night. For those who missed it, you were the losers as it was the meeting of the year at Brough. A bigger crowd(thanks Worky) against a spirited Diamonds 6 who pushed their way though in the earlier heats to set up some fine 5-1's. Wells is still a class act as he proved the first time he rode Brough for his then 13 points. He does it in such an easy way, with straight-line driving, and smooth starts and corners. Not the most exciting to watch, but enjoyed his tussle and chase by Richie to haul him in, who just rode faster and faster around the outside line, cleanly passing on the third/forth bends. Brilliant race, best for a long time at Brough, and very similar to Cook overhauling Richie a couple of years ago, when Richie rode the wrong line on the last bend. Steve and Richie for 2016, no objections from me, or most of the crowd last night I would imagine. Aarnio continues to prove George hasn't "lost the plot", and has make a mockery of others suggestion. Ludde had a big 'off' on the 4th bend, but despite it looking really serious, Ludde just dusted himself down, and walked back to the pits with his usual grin on his face. Tough lad. Simon another great night for him, and so pleased we didn't change him. Anton continues to look a problem at the moment with inconsistent performances. He was badly shaken last Sunday, so perhaps w need to hold judgement but he hasn't kicked on all season. Meeting had some great racing on a deepish track, followed by 6 heats in the NJL meeting, when the youngers also showed how to pass around Brough. A great meeting, collection for the Ben Fund, Interviews and Pix opportunities after heat 15, with a good crowd staying behind to see the juniors do their best. And all done and dusted with the fence dropped and stored before 9.10pm. It was time for a cuppa after that.

Agreed. I doubt whether the trustees received anything, possible just a nominal amount left at Colin's discretion.

Tony Lethbridge was.

Agree. A top rider who doesn't do heat 15's. -
Quite agree. As well as the Diamonds meeting against Worky, which should be close, there will be wrist bands for Lewis fund @ £5, opportunity to pay for or buy tickets for the River Tyne Cruise on Fri 11th September, followed up with Northern Junior League meeting between the Gems and the Meteors of Worky. Get ya sel there.

Rye House V Newcastle... 1st August 7pm
Tsunami replied to Shadders's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
I was, but you brought in the red herring of 'should have done this earlier'. It doesn't follow that cos other teams are signing riders that we must have been able to find one as well. Some of the recent signings have been for much higher average riders and even Castania has been available for awhile, and still only go a ride this late in the season. As you say promoting isn't easy, everyone else knows all the answers. shame that. There is never a correct time or formula for getting rid of a poor performing rider, it all depends. Can the team carry a rider who will come good, his injuries healing, a rider available to replace him, the demands of such a rider, your race night not acceptable to him, doesn't like your track, etc. Not easy, but if you keep the rider you are wrong for being too loyal, and if you get rid of them you can guarantee he will do 'better' in his next team and you got it wrong again. Critics are never wrong BTW. -
Rye House V Newcastle... 1st August 7pm
Tsunami replied to Shadders's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
So nobody you can think of then at the moment. Months go it could have ben suggested that Rose would not improve and possibly leave him out, especially as he wasn't scoring at EL level either. But they stuck with him and came good before his unfortunate crash. Or could it have been Simon who has recently come on a ton in recent meetings. Or could it have been Christian who might have got his form back, but for his crash. Or could it have been Kerr who is a shadow this year of what we expected him to be this year. Or could have been Anton...... Easy game this promoter lark innit. Without knowing what was the reason, I see he has said sorry on Facebook(in a post to Steve Park) for not riding tonight. Did I not read he had gone back to Denmark a couple of weeks to rest up. -

And you would have put in who ? -
It's vicious I grant you that, most critics on here are finished with speedway anyway, but continue to dig the knife it. Telling others in the sport to spend more money, and disagreeing with every decision does make one wonder how good a fan they were when they did attended. Most of them have issues.

Redcar V Edinburgh Plkoc 23rd July
Tsunami replied to crazysue's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Quite agree and Brough has had it's full share down the line, but the %age of them at Redcar was way above the norm. Interestingly the problem now is not as great as it was, and some of the 'names' either don't go or just turn up for an occasional rant. If that leads to a lesser crowd, well there is always a good side to things. -

Oh Dear. It that the best defence you can come back, old school. -
Because you advised jenga "you think you are being very smart and witty",(the clue being bolded to bring it to attention), and I then I compared your quote with your 'top' poster on here, who had previously tried to be just that. Why is jenga wrong, but Crumpy acceptable.

You really are a k**b at times Ray. ch 958 is trying help you out by reminding you of the laws regarding defamation of character, and at the same time you are assuming, without facts, he is a supporter of Cradley Heath, which he is decidedly not. Not bad, 2 own goals in one post.

Well, Crumpy thinks it works for him. Very disappointed that Crumpy is not gracing us with his presence on Sunday at the PL 4's. Was interested to see what an EL snob looked like, but I suppose the quality of the PL racing on such an outstanding track will make up for it. As to my 'self proclaimed success story', well you have to have before you can do it. Pity about Sunday though.

David Howe Annonces His Retitrement
Tsunami replied to Sotonian's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
About 1998, I talked with Jim Lynch about Newcastle using his young riders on loan at Newcastle, just before they went into the EL. Jim said "**** ***** is 16 going on 15, ***** ***** is 17 going on 18, and David Howe is 17 going on 30. You can't have him". Great respect for a youngster even at that age. Followed his career with interest since, and he could have been so much better but for his injuries. Memories of a couple of years ago David scoring a 15 max whilst guesting for us at home, and i think it was the easiest maximum I have seen. He was just so good that night, and went on to be our regular guest after that. If only!!!!! -

Yes, and this is a guy(not you) who associates with the 'fans' on the 1st bend bar terracing at Redcar, shouting down to the fallen Worrall, and another time Andrew Tully, saying something like "shame you did'nt break ya f*****g neck", and continued in the same vein on the Bears talk forum with other Bears fans who woudn't know any different. Bigballs can verify that. Unfortunately these tossers are also despised by their own fans, and clearly these tossers do not represent all of the Redcar fans, but for a while there was too many of them.
