  1. Calling off meetings early, with a dodgy forecast, is usually in the interests of the paying fans as they can make other arrangements, and not get ripped off for fuel, admission and the meeting being called off before or during the early part of a meeting. Promoters damned if they do, damned if they don't. How many would have turned up, and what quality racing in iffy conditions. More moans for the sake of it, one of speedways major probs.
  2. The main meeting will be followed by a NJL meeting between the Newcastle Gems and the Redcar Cubs. Teams are :- NEWCASTLE GEMS Josh Embleton Dale Pate Archie Freeman Jack Wright REDCAR CUBS William O'Keefe Carl Basford Elliott Kelly Alex Goldsbrough Why not stay behind and watch some exciting junior racing. You might enjoy it.
  3. And the main culprit is you. You, and a couple of others, have recently apparently 'found' speedway again, but on every thread you raise issues to slag off current speedway. Yet you insist you love it. In the case of concrete starting pads, you invited reasons why they weren't used now, you were given basically the same reasons which you flippantly dismiss as 'just comments' in a put down way. Low and behold, you find a link suggesting mainly what the others had said, and continue to ignore and criticise others more technically minded who don't agree with you. Have you ever wondered why your most used phrase on this forum is something like "well we will just have to agree to disagree' on most issues. I don't think you are on a windup, but you over opinionated and unable to take part in a discussion that doesn't accept your point of view. These dead end threads on Speedways failings have only risen since you joined the forum. Yet you love it !!!!
  4. One thinks someone has a lot of time on his hands and wants to rubbish all other conclusions, until they are dragged back to believe the answer was obvious from the start. Are you for real ?
  5. Quite agree. It is a massive labour of love by John to maintain, and they ensure that the records will be available for ever. Pity anybody starting such a task like John's from scratch.
  6. Malcolm was quite a nice guy. i booked him to guest for the Diamonds in a key Cup meeting at rivals Hull at Hull, in about 2001. He was not on a guarantee but after 3 poorish rides, and Will Lawson at reserve doing canny, he asked to be dropped from his forth ride 'to give the young lad an extra ride'. Name one rider that would do that now. I always acknowledged Malc when I saw him after that.
  7. You obviously didn't read an excellent thread, on here a few weeks ago, outlining the difficulties you experience with track sheets, which makes the investment pretty much a waste of time. The frequency of rain, the duration and it's timing, and continuation during a meeting makes the whole idea not viable over a season. Riders can't race in the rain due to viability probs, whilst the crowd stays at home not believing it could be on.
  8. Whilst I agree to that, I also think the perception of those who attended, and still attend, has been changed with time and their own circumstances. How many youngish people attended in an era, and the excitement and the company they were with made for a unique experience in sport. Maybe they met new friends, met future wife/husband, travel to other tracks for Mini tours, joined the supporters club joined in their activities, etc. Maybe 30 or 40 years on these attractions are no longer there, and they now stand with a group of similar circumstances and views they all hold. They are all full of MEMORIES in a difference time and place, and as we know, the racing is still racing and just as exciting. Yesterday was raw, developing and simple. These days it is different with more professionalism, as you would expect all sports to do, in an attempt to try and meet legal requirements and the perceived requirements of a crowd now older, wiser and having more expectations.
  9. It's hopeful that we can find opposition who are prepared to ride on that day. Here's hoping.
  10. NEWCASTLE SPEEDWAY SUPPORTERS CLUB We are running a bus to Glasgow on Sun 29th May for our PL meeting. Price will be £16 person and if you are interested in going, can you contact Malla on 07939719183 asap. We will still be taking bookings at our home meeting on the 22nd May at the Supporters Club gazebo as you enter the terracing area.
  11. Quite agree PT. Scott is new to the role of team manager, and needs to be given time to learn the role. He has already impressed with the track covers, track prep, training school, etc, and has to work with what Berwick can afford and who is willing to sign. There are many reasons why riders don't sign for clubs, just cos they fit the averages doesn't make them employable. With Scott you have a local guy, with his heart in the right place and trying to help Berwick speedway. I don't see a better man for the job, so getting on his back will solve nothing. Berwick has made some nice changes in the last year when your future could have been in the balance. A new promotion group, new ideas, a new TM, the covers, the future training track and yes a decent team, which was apparent last night at Brough. We are a good side home and away this year, with high expectations, and getting beat in both legs does not make you a bad side. You have had decent results, and you will more than hold your own for the rest of the year. Heads up and try and be supportive. Constant criticism and moaning with what you have got, so early in the year, is totally out of order IMO.

Another max for Kieran. Ryan very unlucky coming down on the second bend, and taking a blow to the head, and getting concussion that ruled him out of the meeting. Ironically Corbin was guesting for Luke Harrison, who completed his 8 day concussion ban last night, after a similar accident at Glasgow a week earlier. Two sporting encounters.
  13. Thought they said they had to have a sun break.
  14. Congratulations to Ged and the Panthers for answering so quickly the concerns that some fans on here had on the teams future prospects. Difficult sometimes to rush in and miss opportunities to the full, but I think this is just the start with a final tweak in a months time. More big hitters, but a weak bottom end until the next tweak. Cook has done well out of this with a good new home circuit and now a new good racing strip in the PL. The bigger tracks will bring him on even further whilst still being a force on the smaller technical track. Noticeable absence of praise for Ged from one 'devoted' Panthers fan. No doubt he would have been on his back by now if Ged hadn't acted.
  15. After the main meeting there is an NJL meeting between the Newcastle Gems and the Berwick Border Raiders . Teams are Newcastle Josh Embleton Dale Pate Archie Freeman Jack Wright Berwick Kevin Whelan Kieran Douglas Ryan Morris Corbin Pavitt

  17. When he signs the first contract. any other loan fees go to them. Nothing to Edinburgh.
  18. NEWCASTLE SPEEDWAY SUPPORTERS CLUB With no home meeting on Sunday 15th May, we are running a bus to Glasgow to watch the British Semi-final the field which includes both Stevie Worrall and Lewis Rose. Price is £16, so if you are interested, contact Malla on 07939719183, and/or sort out a deposit or full payment to be taken this Sunday during the home meeting against Berwick.
  19. Not forgetting Brian Andersen, Bjarne Pedersen and Kennet Bjerre.
  20. But a lot have to Colin. Either to give to the stadia owners or satisfy conditions laid down by the accountants. As i said earlier, It is great security to be able to identify shortages in the gate money. Something that would have been useful to Tim Stone at Newport, if you can recall his problems.
  21. Quite agree. We have heard of HMRC staff standing outside the stadium with a view of assessing the gates. With stadia that say has dogs, most of the turnstiles have a clicker mechanism with a counter built in. This allows correlation of the number for both sports, in case one is understating its number of attending public. For the promotions of course, it gives a check on the monies taken, by multiplying the admission price times by the number of clicks. Any shortage can be investigated straight away.
