I know he said he didn't want to do heat 15 on Sunday as I was standing beside him. Yes, didn't we. -

Takes one to know one, as they say. -
I quite agree. More silence would say so much more. In answer to any point, or item under discussion, macca has to get in his association with a former world star and sponsorship of young riders and programme heats. It clearly means a lot to HIM, as he seems to say it in answer to anything speedway. As i said, silence would say so much more.

Just need Kelvin and Nigel to give her a plug next time on SKY then. They don't need telling to do it so, just do it. -
it was Rob and a great occasion. I did invite him, but I knew he had 4 other events to go to that Sunday afternoon. I spoke with Gordon Stobbs his lifelong mechanic who I knew from the 60's with him being a Diamond fan then, and asked if he would have a word. On the day I said to the trainee riders that we may be having a guest today, and sure enough he got out of his other bookings, and just walked in and got the lads together and talked to them about learning speedway. He spend quite a bit of time with us, gave each one advice and was pleased to have his photo taken by everyone who wanted one. Incidently some of the photos are on our Facebook NEWCASTLE SPEEDWAY TRAINING GROUP. You can spot Liam Carr in his green Wolfsport kit and was having his first laps after coming over from MotoCross. A memorable day, thanks to Gordon and Ivan.

As Ivan used to say, if you can ride Brough Park you can ride anywhere. He was instrumental in recommending young Kiwis to come to Newcastle to accelerate their learning in the sport. Even had him once as a guest tutor at one of my training school. Great experience. Sounds like someones running scared.

Of course it is a bogey track as you always flood the bloody track unto 11/2 hours before the meeting with us. The riders do notice and do talk about it. Even with your crazy rubbishing/fixing of the track you still get turned over big style on our constant racing circuit which gets good praise normally, especially when we have the access probs that nobody else seems to have. Refs reports suggest we are decent.

I think George English is probably one of the only promoters to know the explanation of the rules, as he had to confront and insist this is the way the rule should be implemented. Neither John Anderson, or the ref Ronnie Allan, knew for our visit to Berwick, and George was proved right and it was referred to the SCB. The self same instance happened the following week at Glasgow when the rule was ignored wrongly. George didn't appeal on the day, because the answer to validate his stance had not been issued in a Supplementary, which of course was in the fullness of time. I think if you understand the reasons for the rule, you have a better understanding and certainly the wording explaining the rule was slightly flawed to those reading them. We lost out at Glasgow, but what the hell.

Well, it is looking like that Somerset are top and Glasgow will get second spot. Somerset will get first pick, and I think they will go for Peterborough. PB may have strengthened the top end(twice), but there has been damage to the bottom end so they overall will be weaker. Glasgow are an unpredictable team with some riders offkey in most of their wins. Much stronger at top end with indifference at the bottom. I think they will go for Edinburgh. Somerset will then pick Sheffield as they have had good results against them, and Sheffield do not all ride to their best unless it's some meetings at home. They will not want Newcastle. Glasgow will then receive Newcastle as the last pick. Leagues would then be SOMERSET(F), PETERBOROUGH(any), SHEFFIELD(Th) GLASGOW(Su), EDINBURGH(F), NEWCASTLE(Su), The two Friday tracks are apart, but the Sunday tracks are in the same league. Shouldn't be a real problem but, if they both race on their day, a Sunday has been lost to both clubs and racedays could be reduced through rainoffs. Might be pressure for Glasgow to change their second pick. Well, that's my take on the situation. Would you like to share yours ?

You can't Adam and Eve it can you. Hope they can be identified and suffer the consequences.

It was part of the deal with Manchester Council that it was named National Speedway Stadium. Helped swing it I believe.

Didn't with us when for 1998 we are unable to declare because of the previous stadium owner going bust, and 3 new buyers under discussion who had all said they wanted us to stay. We were signing riders, and we were included in all the cups and league fixtures, started the first fixtures, and then received a bill for £5k for a late declaration. Flipside was nobody had picked up Nicki P and we signed him.
-
Which of course is not true. A rider initially signs for his first team. If that team wants to sell him, he has to agree and signs the transfer docs without which he could not move on. He can remain their asset and be loaned, again, but only with his permission and the obligatory signing of the docs. A rider will move and ride for someone else only if he agrees, buying or loaning. The only case I can think of when that doesn't happen is if his parent company goes out of business and the BSPA are then charged with disposing of their assets by other clubs buying the rider. He does know the transfer fee as he can if he wants to take, I think, it is 10% of the transfer fee.

Must admit I didn't fancy Somerset this year, and thought it was a poor team, especially as to what has gone on before this year. Tungate had personal probs, Jake Allan was doubted when Berwick were sniffing, didn't think that Charles and Paul would kick on and get heat leader status but good second strings, but with Josh being mainly good this year with his usual off performance like at Newcastle on Sunday, they have managed to swing things around and have the results to prove it. They don't miss many meetings, unlike Newcastle where we have had a patchwork team for key away meetings and lost. Good team that Somerset are, they would not fancy taking on Newcastle on an aggregate basis. but none of the top 6 will either.

Just so sad Bob that Plymouth Speedway has to get on the local TV News programme about a mindless act of vandalism. Hope you are well.

But the rest of us would prefer you to give up. You never fail, even in a disastrous situation like the fence damage at Plymouth, to big yourself up with your alleged contributions and personal friendships, even when you are told by more that one other poster, it is in bad taste to do so. It has little or no relevance to the way the thread has gone, but you insist on the trumpet blowing. As I have highlighted in your above, you fail to take heed of what others have said, and worst of all, now make personal insults to a guy you should really be heeding.
-
Quite agree. Some are only one here for their own reasons, and not really about Plymouths current problem. Blowing their own trumpet. Hope Plymouth do accept one of the offers of an old fence. It would then mean they had plenty of time to get their fence repaired either professionally(expensive), or by competent people in a non urgent timescale. Plymouth certainly have had some regular and damaging knocks in their existence, let's hope the current problems are easily overcome and they cam come to the tapes in 2017. Never been myself, but my regular updates from HalifaxTiger, would suggest it would be worth the visit. Good Luck. Oh Dear.

Yes, great times. When we came back in 1997, Joan used to get great deals with the best hotels, and the big group that went to most of the away southern tracks all stayed in the one hotel. £25 a night including breakfast. Usually Exeter/Reading, IOW, KL and home and Newport, Exeter and Trelawny. After the meetings the 'characters' used to come to the fore like Jason Lyons buying everyone a pizza at 2.00 in the morning. With no Tuesday and Monday combination it's not possible now. We once did a filler on a Wednesday, when Nicki was riding for KL I think and Bjarne for Poole, and then Swindon on the Thursday(PL). EDIT Just had a message that all the water is off the track, and the air fence is being inflated. Jonny cutting the track to aeriate the shale and spread the moisture. Good forecast and a bit of sunshine so looks like we have a meeting now. Bring on the Rebels.

Yes, the other thing is that no need for an early calloff as Somerset and their fans would already be up here as their meeting at Worky last night was called off and they have to stay in the area for their next fixture at Berwick on Monday night. Haven't been up to the track yet, awaiting news on its condition. One thing is the rain, although persistent, has not been really heavy. One thing, glad I didn't arrange a training session again this morning.

SUPPORTERS CLUB TRAVEL TO THE PLRC at Sheffield next Sunday. Last chance to book your seats for the Supporters Club bus to the PLRC. For those who pay or have paid, for their tickets prior to the interval, plus new travellers paying as well, the draw will be held in the interval tomorrow, to see who has won the free seat. Some seats still available, so get in early for your chance to win the free seat.

The usual arrangement is for the area between the tracks to be lower again, and/or have a ditch to hold the rainwater till it disperses into the ground after the meetings.
