Scrap The Controversial Heat 10 Rule!
AFCB Wildcat replied to heathen chemistry's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
To be fair I think Holder would have ridden a completely different race had all 4 been at tapes. It struck me that it was just show boating with no opposition trying to make it look easy and he got it wrong! -
Still a couple of places left at Poole?
-
So have people found the elite league meetings on Sky better quality than the GP's? I have enjoyed both and the Swedish league but I just don't feel riders are passionate about team speedway any more, just mercenaries. Just personal opinion but to me the GP a better product. Having said that I'd kill for another chance to watch the Wildcats at the Wessex.
-
At one time I would have disagreed but it does seem that team speedway at elite league level has lost its way a bit. Maybe run the elite league as per the world cup format? 4 man teams named from a 7 man squad in 4 team tournaments. Less fixtures, more top riders able to commit, less guest riders along with the benefits mentioned by the OP. Okay, no team riding but how much do we see anyway. If it leaves teams with not enough fixtures then run a NL side and develop the next generation of riders?

Torun Sgp 2014 (inc Sunday)

Agreed, he could but they never do! If he hadn't been forced to stop the race I'm sure he would have let it go. That's the problem we see all to often. -
Didn't Scunthorpe used to be in Yorkshire? Certainly further north than Sheffield. Trouble is it's not a case of north and south it's accessibility. I followed AFC Bournemouth on the road for over 20 years and remember taking less time to get to Carlisle than it took me to get to Southend!
-
Yes I think you're right, that's as good as it can be. I can't see how Scunthorpe could possibly be considered south! North south devide is always talked about but people forget that the country is as wide as it is long and for teams like Plymouth or Somerset located on the M5 I would think Belle Vue would be an easier drive than Eastbourne or Peterborough so it's a tricky one for sure.

Darcy Ward
AFCB Wildcat replied to Seymour Dix's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
That's what I was trying to say, so in your example of 5 pints we would probably be talking nearer 9:30am to be clear not midday. Personally I wouldn't drive after 1 pint as I feel slightly impaired but I normally feel fine by midday the next day even after a session. I don't offer this as any defence for Ward but to read some of the comments on here you would think he was rolling drunk and liable to be causing carnage on the track. Yes it was unacceptable and all avoidable risk should rightly be removed but I would suggest that trying to hang on to a speedway bike when carrying a major injury is more of a risk to rider & fellow competitors than a small amount of alcohol from the night before but that happens all the time. I await to be slaughtered and of course I can see the moral difference between the 2 scenarios but you are either putting fellow competitors at risk or not. To drink before an event is extremely irresponsible and he deserves all he gets but as in the Eddie Kennet silencer thing he was just the one that got caught not the only one to have ever done it. Hopefully this will serve as a wake up to both him and other riders that like the party lifestyle! -

Does it work like that? I understood that you started losing the unit an hour 1 hour after your first drink so in your example 3 of those 12.5 units would have been gone by midnight. If I drunk 12 pints between midday and midnight it wouldn't take a day and a half to clear my system would it? -
Genuine Question In Relation To King's Lynn Speedway
AFCB Wildcat replied to SCORPIO's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
I guess that comes under bottles and cans. Ithink they allow cartons.A bloke in front of me in the queue at the food kiosk at Cardiff askef the assistant why she had to pour his plastic bottle of water into a plastic cup before he could take it away. The reply was that people had been known to urinate into bottles and throw them into the tier below. I guess that would be impossible with a plastic cup with a lid on it then? !!! I has to do the same as you did with my refreshments at Cardiff a good few years back but it was four cans of cider! I seem to remember their being a bit of a bottle mountain of confiscated booze that year. I wonder where it went! -
Genuine Question In Relation To King's Lynn Speedway
AFCB Wildcat replied to SCORPIO's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
I've been to many football stadiums and I've never heard of not being allowed to take food in. Bottles cans and alcohol have always been prohibited. I just checked Wembley's website and food is permitted, thats a pretty major venue! -
Thanks, that kind of sounds what I've done but the pin is only about 1/4" long and stepped so does it protrude from the end of the spring and locate in the smaller diameter hole in the filter? It's just that looking into the engine there appears to be a hole in the surface behind the filter. Should the pin protrude from the filter into this hole or is it an oilway that should be clear. I hope you see what I mean!
-
A bit of help would be greatly appreciated. I've put the pin in the filter with it located in the smaller diameter hole, then pushed the spring over the pin and screwed in the plug so that the spring is located in the plug and the 'o' ring is against the face of the plug. Is this correct? Anyone please?
-
Hi, I'm hoping someone can help me in replacing what I assume is an oil filter on a 884 engine. I have always drained it by removing the lower timing case bolt but wanted to see if I could get anymore oil out by removing the 22mm hex plug on the bottom of the engine but was unaware that it contained a filter until it dropped into the bowl. I am now unsure which way round it goes to replace it. There is a stepped pin and a spring. The smaller diameter of the pin appears to locate in the smaller diameter of the filter so fairly obvious how that fits I suppose and the spring sits inside the filter located on the pin. On the side of the filter that the spring protrudes from there is a 'o' ring. Does the protruding spring and 'o' ring go into the engine with the spring acting as an ejecting device or does it go into the hole in the drain plug with the 'o' ring against the plug? The hole in the plug is the right diameter to house the spring but as it is so deep it puts no tension on the spring so I'm not sure. Advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

Good luck with your build. What standard of bike are you intending to build and are you intending to compete on it? Are you looking at building with new or used parts. Often with using used parts the sum of the parts is normally more expensive than buying a complete machine. I've never built a bike from scratch but have spent a lot of time working on my sons so if you have any specific queries during your build on how things fit etc let me know.
-
Hi, Building up a bike is pretty straight forward but you need to make sure all the bits you get are compatible and the setting up of things needs a bit of knowledge. There are different numbered diamonds and while I've no 1st hand experience, I know people that have had trouble getting clutches and chains to fit when swapping. I don't know of any technical websites that will help you but the 'Speedway racing for sale/ wanted' section of this forum may be helpful as the 'engine rebuild ' section is the place for technical queries. Bolt kits are available from speedway suppliers. John Carpenter at www.speedwaybikes.co.uk is a good source of spares and very helpful. If as your user name suggests you are based near Poole then Max Richards at Pegasus speed needs is also very helpful. He does the spares van at Poole. Hope this helps.

I don't think he was comparing was he? Just commenting on other posts making that comparison. I do agree with Phillips comments that the city centre in Cardiff embraces the Speedway and it would be hard to replicate the atmosphere at a remote London venue.
-
I know what you mean but it's those 4 stops on a tube that make a difference for me.At Cardiff you are there, I don't want to be bustled on a tube close to start time, I've done all that with football. Cardiff is about chilling in the city and strolling to the stadium. Not rubbishing Wembley just that it doesn't appeal to me over Cardiff.
-
Personally I would hate it to be moved to Wembley. Cardiff has everything going for it being right in a lively city centre. My wife takes little interest in any sport but always asks me to take her to Cardiff for the GP which to me says a lot about how right they've got it in terms of presentation and we both love the city. We actually went up Thursday this year and came back today and had great time. Wembley is a great stadium but not much around it. Cardiff for me every time.
-
Well at one point there was a real danger of me sobering up but thanks to there being no delays in the meeting and a thoroughly bloody nice taxi driver I managed to get back to the pub in time to down 4 pints of Thatchers gold and take a bottle of Magners back to our room but yeah I probably would have felt a lot worse this morning if things had gone to plan!
-
Thanks for sharing. No bottles left either by the time I got to the front of the queue! With counseling I'm sure I can get through the pain of this trauma and come out the other side but for now it's a bit raw.
-
Blimey I must have imagined the whole thing then! Perhaps I'd drunk too much and it was all just a dream. I know a lot of people come on here just to moan but believe me there wasn't a draught pint in sight where I was, it's quite an important thing to me so trust me I would have noticed!
-
Sounds like I was in the wrong place then. We were in U5 and the kiosks immediately behind us were closed. The steward directed me to the nearest one which was rubbish. Probably because it was one of the more sparsely populated areas I suppose.
-
I had missed the last couple of Cardiff GP's so enjoyed returning for this one and thought the presentation was superb. I expect to pay over the odds for accommodation etc. It goes with the territory but I was very disappointed with the catering in the stadium this time. There were no draught beers only cans that were being poured to order causing long delays and then when they ran out there were only bottles with about half the amount in for the same £4. By the time I got to the front of the queue they had ran out completely so I had to do without! I seem to remember in previous years that pints were pre poured and covered with lids and it was a lot slicker. I expect to be ripped off but when you are prevented from taking your own refreshments in and they can't even cater that's pretty poor. Perhaps I was just unlucky where we were in the stadium. I don't like moaning on here as overall it was a great night but it did take the edge of it for me especially as I missed a heat while queuing and came away empty handed. Hope it was better in other areas of the stadium?
