Perhaps Darcy could be rewarded by being named the wild card in every round after June.....

You're right, gustix, I do indeed know John Hyam and it is the sort of sensible thing I would expect him to say. Speedway WOULD become a mickey mouse sport if the riders were allowed to ride intoxicated. So I was rather hoping it was him who posted that comment. However, you seem to be suggesting he didn't and wouldn't agree with that sentiment. Shame really.
-
Mind you, this was an interesting comment on the petition: "John Hyam LONDON, Speedway would be a mickey mouse sport if the riders were intoxicated."

Blimey, Grachan. They shouldn't let you anywhere near an Internet Forum. You're and your both spelt correctly!
-
If it was a one-off meeting they probably wouldn't have needed planning permission. Actually, Arnie would probably know the answer to that one.
-
Sorry, compost, I don't have any heat details for this meeting. The last greyhound meeting was held on 4 October 1979 and the stadium was demolished in 1980.
-
Now you tell us!
-
Further to Mick's reply, there were also three trial meetings run at the stadium on 9, 16, 23 December 1931. Another was advertised for 26 December but it is uncertain if it was ever run. The first officlal meeting was held on 1 August 1932, the Chatham Scratch event, and was won by Alf Foulds. The second was om 9 August 1932. There was another unofficial meeting on 14 March 1969, with Reg Luckhurst, Martyn Piddock, Rob Stewart and Judd Drew taking part. The meeting was won by Piddock.

Yes. I recommend you buy a copy.

There's a good book called Speedway in the South East with information about Rochester Speedway.
-
You haven't offended me at all. I just didn't see the point of your post. It would have been far more constructive to contact John and let him know that Rochester is missing from his site, instead of drawing everyone's attention to the fact that he has missed it.

That's not the way to go about finding out the secret of norbold's hole, White Knight.
-
Yes. Better to tell John rather than post that on here.

This is something Sir Lunchy wrote some years ago about the Forum: " I think the forum can be likened to an old English pub. In the good old days, us regulars used to sit at a table by the roaring log fire in the snug sipping our pints while holding friendly discussions on this and that. Occasionally some one would join us who had a dissenting voice but this sometimes made for a bit more lively discussion and everyone knew the rules that whatever we did we mustn’t disturb the calm atmosphere of the pub. Throw another log on the fire and whose round is it anyway? But gradually a whole new breed of drinker began to drift into the pub. They had no respect for the quiet calm atmosphere, were loud mouthed and put the jukebox on to drown out quiet conversation. People had to shout to get their point across and the whole atmosphere changed. With this change in clientele, the landlords decided to do away with the table in the snug and the comfy chairs. People now had to stand around and the old log fire was ripped out and central heating introduced. Many of the old regulars gave up and went off to find a different pub and soon those that did stay on were outnumbered. They bravely continued but most felt quite uncomfortable with the new breed and new style of pub."

Certainly a lot friendlier, SCB.

It was in 2002!

Sadly it's disappeared into the ether........

Back in the day, EVERYBODY was interested in norbold's hole. It was the talking point of the Speedway Forum for months, much longer than this piffling Darcy Ward thread.
-
If anyone would like to send me a few old fivers wrapped up in a plain brown envelope I still have the photos.....
-
I was going to modestly mention that, but I didn't think anyone would remember. Thank you, Lioness.

Yes, 1988 and Ove was there, as were Jack and Norman Parker.
-
Peter Morrish's book, British Speedway Leagues 1946 - 1964, has the 45-33 result listed as a Provincial League match. P.S. That's not to say it wasn't counted as an SL match as well. I don't know about that.
