Don't start! Just added a West Ham album and five Bristol photos under the heading Various tracks.
-
West Ham? Now you're talking! Actually I have just found a few VERY old Bristol photos which I'll post in the next few days.
-
I just knew the first request would be for a team I haven't got any photos of! Sorry, Grachan.
-
I've just started a New Cross page on http://community.webshots.com/user/norbold Hope to add more as time goes on. Well, I've got to do something while I'm off with my wisdom tooth...or, rather, without my wisdom tooth! Any other teams anyone would like?

The one and nines was the cheap bit.

Peter Jackson has produced stats books for 1933 - 1939 as well as some post war years. All include West Ham stats. His address is 41 Riversfield Road, Enfield, EN1 3DH

I think my first article will be "Famous Canterbury Supporters - Where are they now?" Unfortunately I have no photographs to go with this, but you reckon Kev H could supply me with just what I need do you?

Can I write the programme notes please Shazzy?

Billy was a bit like Peter Craven. (I shouldn't mention this really but there are some good action photos of Billy in a new publication called Norwich Speedway. He also features on the front cover). Billy's main problem was that he could never really get to grips with small tracks. When I first started going to speedway at the 280 yard New Cross track he was, quite frankly, just hopeless and I couldn't understand why he had such a good reputation. But he was a different rider on big tracks like his own Norwich and I did later get to see him on other tracks and could appreciate his style and what made him so good. He was, of course, always very popular in Norfolk at both Norwich and Yarmouth. He graduated from cycle speedway and in his first-ever league match (as a 17 year old) he scored 10 points. I believe he finished his career at Sheffield after Norwich closed in 1964.

I came on here this morning especially to say I couldn't believe I'd forgotten Aub Lawson! I see you've beaten me to it, iris!!! Yes, definitely. Aub in for Max Grosskreutz I think.
-
Hmmm...now you mention him. Eric Langton could be the one. Venues? In England: Wembley, Odsal, Custom House, Hyde Road, Plough Lane.

Think I would almost agree with those two teams iris. though I would probably put in Bjorn Knutsson instead of Soren Sjosten. And remember old style Test teams were 8 a side, so I would add Split Waterman for England and Gote Nordin for Sweden. And how about Australia v. USA: Australia 1. Vic Duggan 2. Vic Huxley 3. Bluey Wilkinson 4. Jack Young 5. Jason Crump 6. Billy Sanders 7. Max Grosskreutz 8. Lionel Van Praag (Could have Leigh Adams and Ryan Sullivan at 7 and 8?) U.S.A. 1. Bruce Penhall 2. Jack Milne 3. Cordy Milne 4. Greg Hancock 5. Billy Hamill 6. Wilbur Lamoreaux 7. Sam Ermolenko 8. Sprouts Elder

Or is it two golden doubles and two golden tacticals. Or maybe it's one golden double, one golden tactical and two silver tacticals. There again it could be three golden double tacticals and one double golden tactical. Or is it a bronze helmet for coming third? I'm sorry, Phil. I know you are asking for proper information, but can anyone really take all this business seriously????

Fundin and Mauger.
-
I think it actually took 3 hours and 9 minutes.
-
Yes. Duggan would make the tractor ride let alone the final!
-
That's another fine race you've gotten me in to.

Yes, just to add my thanks too, Grachan. I have enjoyed every clip. -
Yes, I had an e-mail from Bob too about his two match races with Triggy. He reckons he won his by eight inches and Triggy won his by four inches, so therefore he was the winner! (He was joking )
-
Thanks for that, Ian. I shall pass on your message to Jim.

I can't answer that because I am currently lying down in a darkened room....

Now then, let's just get this straight - then I promise my hormones won't play up any more. New Cross rode four challenge matches in 1959 as a non-league team. All the riders used guested and belonged to other teams. Peter Craven rode in three of the four matches for New Cross and in the other one for Belle Vue, his actual team. Incidentally, Bjorn Knutsson also rode for New Cross that year, maybe he should be in your fantasy team, NXR? I shall now go away and lie down in a darkened room and return when the speedway season starts....
-
I'm not sure Belle Vue supporters would agreee with you, Gem...
-
Ian, I have been asked by Jim Henry, editor of Speedway Researcher and Scottish Speedway Historian if you have the official Sherrif Court records of the inquest as they no longer exist and he is researching in to the events of that night. Incidentally, he was also there and agrees that Peter Craven started off scratch.

I'm not. I just thought it would be nice if a New Cross fantasy team consisted of New Cross riders, but maybe I'm old fashioned when it comes to this sort of thing....
