  1. I think cyclone may be referring to Alan Mogridge in 1986. Mogridge had signed for Canterbury at the beginning of 1986 but had asked for a transfer to Rye House. As a result of this Canterbury were given dispensation to use rider replacement. When Canterbury raced against Rye House, Mogridge was riding for Rye House while Canterbury were using r/r for him, so effectively he was riding for both teams. Not quite the question you asked, but an interesting anomaly all the same.
  2. They were brothers I think. It might be Ken I'm thinking of as the one still alive - unless they both are.
  3. He is on the list. As far as I know the only pre-war rider still alive Mr Nolbold, is this the case? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Vic Duggan's still alive, isn't he? And I think, though I am not sure, Jack Tidbury may be.
  4. I hope Archie Windmill will be there. My uncles will definitely go then!
  5. It was a joke, Paul!!!!!
  6. You can't go wrong with Chewy Chewy or Goody Goody Gumdrops.
  7. Yes, it was called bubblegum music. Buddha Records were West Ham's sponsors in 1969, so all the music played was from their Kasenetz Katz LPs (as we used to call albums in those days). The groups included 1910 Fruitgum Co., Ohio Express and the Rock 'N' Roll Dubble Bubble Trading Card Company of Philadelphia 1914 amongst others, who all joined together in one super group called Kasenetz Katz Singing Orchestral Circus. 1910 Fruitgum Company's big hit was Simon Says.
  8. You had to be there at the time sandman
  9. Hummmm humm humm hum humm hummm humm hum. That was the beginning of Chewy Chewy. Should I go on?
  10. Yes, two of my uncles are looking forward to the reunion for those from the earlier era only. They went to Hackney from 1936 to 1939.
  11. I don't think we can say on a Family Forum. I'll tell you when we meet up!
  12. Wasn't that Derrick Neave? I got lots off of him as well.
  13. So there I was minding my own business listening to BBC Essex this morning when they played "Chewy Chewy" and the memories came flooding back. Do you remember, CHK? Buddha Records, Kasenetz Katz and those unforgettable records such as Chewy Chewy, Goody Goody Gumdrops, Kasenetz Katz Singing Orchestral Circus, Yummy Yummy Yummy, Quick Joey Small, Simon Says....Those were the days. Having said all that, I hope you do remember, CHK, otherwise I'll look a right idiot!
  14. What I liked best about Hackney was the fact I could walk there and walk home after the meeting. Oh yes, and the fact that somehow the racing always seemed to be closer there than anywhere else and it was a very friendly atmosphere and then there was Uncle Len of course....
  15. You're very welcome, but you'd have a long way to go.
  16. There's also a chapter on Romford in Speedway in the South East.
  17. That's because he was the best. p.s. That's kiwi's web site, one of our members.
  18. I remember the wondeful cuisine available at the Brighton Bonanza I attended a couple of years ago. There were three items on the menu: 1. Sausage and Chips 2. Sausage without Chips 3. Chips without Sausage. mmmmm. Mouth-watering.
  19. Great. I'd love to see film of speedway at Yarmouth. Never managed to make it there at the time. By the way, if you're referring to Star in Exile's question, he asked how old Bettsy was at the Kings of Oxford meeting, which was in 1961, which is why I said he was 18 in 1961.
  20. My school sports ground was in Walthamstow somewhere near Walthamstow Stadium. So you can add me to the list of Forumers who know Walthamstow well, Robyn.
  21. Bettsy first rode for Norwich in 1960. He had four matches and scored no points. He was 18 in 1961.
  22. I walked to Hackney speedway through the streets of London every week for three years before moving to Loughton. Can't say I ever had any trouble. After moving to Loughton I got the Central Line to Leyton and then the free bus.
  23. I was just looking at the hits on my Webshots site and I was a little surprised to see that, although I put them up at roughly the same time and they have roughly the same number of photos, my Hackney album has taken 1026 hits to Wimbledon's 195. This seems a bit strange to me considering Wimbledon are still active. Any Hackney or Wimbledon supporter care to explain this huge difference? Incidentally, New Cross has had 417, West Ham 412 and Crystal Palace 215.
  24. Before the War, two of my uncles used to do the following EVERY WEEK: Monday: Wimbledon Tuesday: West Ham Wednesday: New Cross Thursday: Wembley Friday: Harringay Saturday: Hackney Wick I don't know where the money came from, but at least they didn't have to travel very far. Now if only they'd kept all their programmes.....
  25. Pete Jarman 14 Harry Edwards 13 Roy Trigg 13 Vic Ridgeon 10 Geoff Pymar 9 Pete Atkins 7 Johnny Fitzpatrick 7 Terry Betts 7 Gil Goldfinch 7 Ron Bagley 6 (in 2 rides; excluded in 3rd and refused to take part in the rest of the meeting!) Brian Brett 6 Tommy Sweetman 5 Pete Sampson 5 Pat Flanaghan 5 Ken Last 2 Wal Morton 1 Reserves: Frank Wooster 2 Jim Chalkley 1 It was the last-ever meeting at Yarmouth and was never reported in the Speedway Star.
