  1. For the answer to that, read Parsloes post above.
  2. I have to say, speedyguy, she looks quite nasty to me...
  3. You could try selling them at High Beech. If you don't get what you want try eBay. (The scrapbooks I saw, eh...hmmm...as I said I'll be on the Museum stand... )
  4. I'll be there on the Museum stand itself. Please come and say hello.
  5. If there was a hand print hall of fame for the Stadium itself we should get Jack Ormston and Gordon Byers to get their hands mucky before it's too late.
  6. I think it's just that they've seen you driving....
  7. Obviously we need Dr Belton to clear all this up for us...
  8. Only a year late, Parsloes. What happened? Did you get stuck at some red lights?
  9. Thanks arnie. Much appreciated.
  10. Could anyone tell me what position Rye House finished in the Gold Cup (Southern Section) in 1991 please. Thank you.
  11. Anyone can. That's the point of Wikipedia.
  12. I've removed the reference to Johnnie Hoskins on the Wikipedia site.
  13. Yes, Harringay closed at the end of the 1954 season. They also staged the 1961 Internationale and the 1961 Provincial League Riders' Championship at Harringay.
  14. No, I'd like to get there in one piece thank you...
  15. This is just to let everyone know that I shall be giving an interview on BBC Essex on Wednesday 14 February at 1:45 p.m. to talk about High Beech and the Speedway Museum.
  16. Yes, sadly I was there. Heat 12 West Ham v. Swindon. It didn't seem too bad at first. He was reported to be mildly concussed and shocked, but when he was taken to hospital he was discovered to have a fractured skull.
  17. There were also Cavalcade of Speed meetings at Harringay in 1958 and 1959 which included speedway, stock cars, midget cars, greyhounds and trotting...as well as the Dagenham Girl Pipers.
  18. I've pm'd you with Barry Stephenson's email address.
  19. I went to all the Wembley finals between 1963 and 1981 and also the 1971 final in Gothenburg. The one I remember most was the 1967 final. I had taken a group of college friends to see it. Most of them had never seen speedway before and, as I was a big fan of Ove Fundin, and as our college was in Norwich, I got them all to support the great man. As Grachan has said on another thread, he wasn't expected to win as it was felt that he was a bit past it by then and Briggo was the hot favourite. But, of course, Ove did win, making five titles altogether, the most wins at that time, and cement his place as a permanent candidate for the "greatest ever". It was a great feeling when he did win, especially as my non-speedway friends got very excited. I don't know how many of them went on to watch speedway later on, but at least for one night they were fully absorbed in the atmosphere that only speedway can give. Oh yes, and, as I have said elsewhere, I agree with Gem about the 1981 final.
  20. Latest news: The building is now more or less finished - the doors were fitted yesterday - and work has started on the interior, decorating, fitting the electrics, building the display stands etc. It is hoped that the Museum will be open at the end of April.
  21. After some extensive research by Australian speedway historian, Ross Garrigan, I think we can say that Billy Galloway was not born in Fiji but Australia.
  22. Yes, thanks for the link. Great to see who's number one and to know it's not just me!
