Peterborough Panthers 2020
Arch Stanton replied to bigcatdiary's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Buster already made a loss last year apparently, he simply has to put together a decent side this year otherwise it would be a financial disaster. For that reason alone I think the Panthers will be competitive this time around. -
Genuine this time, no hoax!

Without a shadow of doubt.

5.56 isn’t a difficult number to fit in so if Allen doesn’t return it almost certainly won’t be because of “the numbers game”. Maybe numbers as in £££ but not as in averages.

I was responding to Bagpuss on his point that Lynn would prioritise Lambert, Cook and Riss over Iversen, more than where Iversen would prefer to go. On your point, if it comes down to the choice of the rider then yes I think he’d choose Lynn over us if Lynn were an option for him. Always seemed very settled and happy at Lynn to me.
-
Madness IMO. I like both Cook and Riss they’re very capable riders, but Iversen surely gets in over either of those two? A heatleader trio of Lambert, Iversen and Cook would be the strongest in the league bar none. If Iversen decides to do a full season here and Lynn turn their noses up then I’d be both surprised and delighted if it meant he came back to Foxhall.

The 24-year-old has been impressed with the professional set up at Ipswich and said he wants to remain with the club in 2020. “Compared to every other club I have dealt with during my time In England for a couple of years they are very professional. They want you to do well as much as you want to do well. There has never been a problem if I have asked for advice or help. It was a good for me to go to a new club and I am glad it was Ipswich. I have really enjoyed my time here and hopefully if all goes to plan, I will be here next year and for years after that.” Yes I know what people say and yes, this time of year riders do trot out the “I’d like to stay” line when pushed, but his comments from only a few weeks ago go above and beyond the standard line IMO. I’d be very very surprised if he goes elsewhere but let’s see, money does talk loudest after all.

Nah. Once you become a member of the Ipswich golf club then your place in the Speedway team is guaranteed

Agree to an extent, he WAS disappointing if truth be told but on the other hand, we know he’s a quality rider and what he’s capable of. Maybe a full season and starting from the beginning we’d see the rider we all know? He also has an attractive average for a rider of his pedigree that he’d surely increase. We simply can’t go in to next season with Klindt and King as our heatleader duo, that has disaster written all over it. We’re gonna need another top end rider from somewhere and I personally think we’d be mad to turn Iversen down on an average over just over 7.

Would be very surprised if Iversen returns to Ipswich

Thoughts and prayers with Steve Shovlar at this difficult time.

The BSPA press release is on Friday. It’s Wednesday to Friday this year, rather than the usual Friday to Sunday.

Peterborough Panthers 2020

Well that’s exactly the point I think he’s making. That team was then taken apart by Keith Chapman who will again be setting the budget for the coming season. I’d have the same fears too tbh. -
Think BCD mentioned we won’t see Nicholls anywhere near an Ipswich race jacket again whilst the current sponsor is involved. I see a pattern emerging here..
-
Understand Cook, but Rory? Has he fell out with someone at the club? Always thought they got on well..
-
NKI 7.54 Allen 5.56 King 6.83 Heeps 6.30 Klindt 7.43 That would leave 8.84 for a couple of reserves if the 42.50 limit remains. Nico and Sarj would fit..
-
Plus didn’t Matt Ford or someone else say recently that IF they dropped to the championship, it wouldn’t be a short term fix but they’d be in it for the long haul or something along those lines? If that’s the case then it would make zero sense for a rider with ties to Poole, to drop his average next season. On Klindt, I’ve seen one or two question whether he’d be good value on his current average, but I think he’ll push that to over 8 next year riding Foxhall every week.
-
I know it seems harsh to say as he clearly loves Ipswich and is settled here, but I personally wouldn’t keep King on his average it looks expensive to me and there’s better value elsewhere. Little point debating this one though in all honesty
-
Agree with Baldyman I think it’ll be Harris and Lawson that drop out from this years team. Don’t think NKI would return anyway even if he decides to do a full year here. He’ll be at Lynn if he does IMO. Klindt, King, Heeps and Allen, plus three others. Depends how they go about next years team, if we want a strong reserve then Klindt will end up number 1. If we choose to go with one or even two low averaged reserves, we might have the points to get someone else at the top end. My opinion is Klindt will be our number 1.
-
Those two often exchange banter on twitter they seem to get on well. Obviously you can read far too much in to this kind of thing but there’s little bits here and there that all point to a move being more than possible. Louis knows Klindt would be an asset to our side seeing as how well he rides the place. Nigel Pearson revealed on BT that Louis had told him he was fearful of Klindt doing the damage before the play offs as he was so good there. You’ve also got little things like this from yesterday You can interpret that in different ways I suppose but like I say, all the little things that all add up. I’ll hold my hands up if I’m wrong but I’m almost certain he’ll be a Witch next year.
-
Not just his height but his bulk too. Always looked a big lad on the bike but I didn’t realise just how big he is. Looks like a man mountain!
-
Couple of things here, Allen now a fully fledged member of the Witches “golfing club” so another reason he’s almost certainly staying if one was needed. And secondly, he looks way to big to be a speedway rider! The bloke looks massive compared to the others
-
I’d personally bring KP back on a 5 point average. I know he was inconsistent but he definitely had his moments. I like him. Thought he was unfortunate to be the one to lose his place to bring in Iversen but I guess he was just a victim of the numbers game. Difficult to persuade a rider to return who you’ve just “sacked” though I’d imagine so it’s probably a non starter.
