  1. In regards to the use of the tactical sub in the Play Offs, Peter Adams noted in his programme notes against Poole that it was put forward that the TR rule be scrapped for the duration of the Play Offs, something that he didn't agree with pointing out that you can't go changing rules and formats just for the Play Offs.
  2. Used to love Speedway Promoter was about as good as it could get for a management sim of our great sport, would love to fire it up again.
  3. Have an independent body, but soon as a decision goes against a promoter and they threaten to shut up shop, what happens then? Would an independent body stand by and watch team after team fold? Speedway isn't a sport it's a load of businesses with contractors and hangers on.
  4. Depression can affect in many ways, the pulling wheelies may have been his cry for help, feel a bit sad by some of the views on here. Mental health carries enough stigma without the tripe posted by some folk. Although I have been fortunate to have not suffered from depression, I have seen it's effects close up.
  5. I was led to believe that only NUS Extra exists now?
  6. Have you ever tried interacting with them? Blood and stone springs to mind. I had a group party of over 16 people (All newbies) who were interested going along and taking advantage of a group package last season and I gave up in the end due to a total lack of professionalism.
  7. Taking someone to Wolves in a couple of weeks, they are a student but are in there 20's. Question is do they still qualify as a concession? And also what kind of ID would they need, as apparently NUS cards no longer exist and most places just accept the colleges own id cards?
  8. Gert Handberg, how did he ever finish on the podium of a World Final??
  9. Knew it wouldn't take long for you to appear with your charm offensive, certainly know how to make the paying public feel welcome. Bryn came on here and offered an insight into the reasonings behind the IOW predicament and I duly apologised, you come on here and throw insults. So would I now be more inclined to hand over cash to IOW or Newcastle.....hmmmm.......
  10. Thank you for the insight, in that case I apologise as I didn't know the circumstances behind the IOW.
  11. Buxton offered something in return, remember when air fences were introduced to the EL? Clubs each ran a challenge meeting to pay for the fence, has Chris Holder been approached? Even Belle Vue offered a "brick" in return for money....
  12. Hmmm, ok I am not a real fan, maybe I am not if the criteria is allowing "clubs" to empty bank accounts of "real fans". Every year we get the scare mongering in the Speedway Star from various clubs and promotions that "Club X is in danger of not coming back to the tapes next year if we cannot raise X amount of pounds" I have full respect for a promotion like Buxton, who acknowledged the problems of raising finance for an air fence and put on a great novelty meeting to raise funds. Trust me, as long as fans are subsidising clubs, nothing is ever going to change.
  13. I'm more saddened that its the fans who are asked to put there hands in there pockets yet again, and time after time the poor folk on the terraces are asked to dig deep on top of increased admission prices. Might sound harsh but if a club cannot afford an air fence then bye, and if we end up with no tracks left so be it, its the end of speedway, the paying public are taken for mugs. The only times fans should be approached is for the SRBF, end of.
  14. Good old Speedway, the only sport where everyone competes to be in the know or to claim to know more thant the next person.....
  15. Noticed this is only for the first 10 applications? Belle Vue deal is not to bad as it gives you a programme each meeting too.
  16. Erm...you have to provide two passport photos...
  17. Not sure if this has been mentioned elsewhere but Wolves published there season ticket prices for next season and with a guarenteed 18 meetings they are only charging £250 working out to approx just over £13 a meeting, fair play to a promotion for thinking about fans pockets, although still baffles me why a speedway season ticket is non transferable (i.e. If I am out of the country I cannot give my season ticket to a mate for that meeting)
  18. People need to forget about the term "Elite League" the "Elite League" is no more, I think you will see it rebranded as the "British League" in the upcoming weeks. My first impressions on Sunday evening was that this would be the death of top flight speedway, but as more and more comes out I am excited by the start of a new era, it was only 20 odd years ago that Numbers 6 and 7 were occupied from lads who were part of the Junior sides competing in the 2nd halves, back then we had the British League and the National League, alongside the aforementioned Junior teams that every British League side had (4 man teams, 6 heats in a match). Seems like we are potentially heading back to those days, and will be refreshing to see reserves scoring less than double figures rather than the ridiculous situation last season where Birmingham dragged themselves to the play off final with a reserve taking 7 rides a night. Only thing that puzzles me is how do the reserves ever move into the 1-5 positions in future seasons if they have manipulated averages? And got to feel sorry for riders in the 7.00 average bracket, not exactly enticing to team building with the new regulations.
  19. +1 Its like moaning that Sunday League football gets none of the billions paid to PL clubs,
  20. Well first ever visit to the Oaktree, great little set up and congratulations to the Rebels and more importantly both sets of riders for going out there and racing on a night when it rider power could have caused a postponement. Only negatives for me was the lack of stewarding, some serious idiots on the back straight especially the plonker who felt the need to climb up the fence to use unrepeatable language and gestures. And the car park...wow I was warned it was a field but still wasn't quite prepared! And finally the presentation, this is the pinnacle of the PL season and you have got some bloke in wellies hardly saying anything?! It just goes to show what a professional announcer can add to a meeting, as much as Porky at Wolves is annoying he keeps the chat going during breaks and keeps things happening, good job the two minutes were straight on. Also had interesting conversation at turnstiles about re admission policy, the two youngsters didn't know one exsisted oops. Looking forward to coming back down next summer though, a proper race track.
  21. Just rode up to track, looked in good condition but just had a heavy downpour in last five minutes, all depends how quick sun comes out I guess Sun now shining and rain stopped, gonna be a late call off if it doesn't go ahead. Sun now shining and rain stopped hmmmm
  22. Thankfully I am in the area all next week so i should get to visit at some point!
  23. Some naive folk round here, its common practice when brokering a contract that you take an agreed percentage of said contract, the only thing that baffles me is how "GoSpeed" ended up with the intellectual rights to British Speedway?
  24. Thanks for all the responses, looking forward to a good nights racing at what I am informed is one of the best racetracks in the country? Just praying for dry weather now.
  25. Just noticed that Somerset host there leg of the play off final a week on Monday, as I am in the area it is my intention to attend, can anyone kindly advise of parking facilities and places to eat either in stadium or outside ?
